Quite wrong. It is more prevalent for an 18- 25 to be out of rheir parents home in Europe and North America than Africa. The reason is the easier availability of survival jobs to sustain livelihood in those continent than sub saharan Africa.

Meanwhile, in Asia, many young people reside with their parents till old age. I am talking about the major economies o where jobs yanfu-yanfu. This attitude of copying the West in almost every situation as Africans who are culturally different is absurd.

Is it ok for a guy to be living at home where he grew up or with his parents between age 32-39? if you are a lady, will you find such men as someone who is serious with life or someone who is unserious?

I understand the economy has not be smiling for many and also understand that some men cannot afford to pay rent due to unemployment.

It depends on many circumantances and how the relationship is bwteen the man and family.

Many of my male classmates from school (university and secondary) who remained in the state reside with their parents because it is cheaper for them. They work and contribute to the family while working. For single ladies, they do the same because it is cheaper. Why should a child, regardless of gender leave the parents' house to rent an apartment?

As it is, my parents have many lands and properties, so it makes no economic sense for me to build a house. My siblings no kuku plenty, so why should I build a house when my parents have enough properties? Trust me, I can be that 40-year-old man staying in my parents' property because it is cheaper and has many rooms. If I want to build sef, there is land available. This belief that you should move out when the economic rationale isn't solid does not make sense.

People should do things according to their circumstances rather than what some people say. Just because a 30-year-old rents an apartment of 500K means I, for instance, should do the same when my parents have properties in the same city. According to your analogy, male folks who stay in their parents' houses in Lagos should go out to rent because they want to be seen as "serious"? Why, then, do parents strive to make life easy for their children?

bro ,
Don’t pressure yourself.
Na poor man pikin Dey think of moving out of his parents house without genuine reasons . Most of them do that just to feel among and have access to different girls. Some of dem are extremely broke.

With this economy recession , only a foôl will be mounting unnecessarily pressure on himself for wetin him power no reach . The most important is, ensure you’re doing the right thing to improve your situations and make sure you contribute financially to the house no matter how small. May God be with you.

Especially in economically viable states. So, like this, I will leave my parents' house in, say, Ikeja to rent an apartment in Magodo? No nah!

I'm not asking people to live beyond their means.. Just stating the way things should be in the ideal manner. It can be slightly different in actual sense.

I know parents don't usually want their kids to leave especially their favourite ones but then one has to find his/her path in life and taste the real world. You can never compare someone that started out in life as early as 20yrs to someone that got spoonfed by the parents up till 40yrs. The way they see life and manage resources would be different.

The summary of my post is if you have a job and have the means to be on your own at 25yrs, just go and live your life.

For you to be successful, you must be ready to leave your comfort zone and survive in the wild.

Again, this depends. So if I work with PwC Lagos and my parents have a property in Surulere, should I rent an apartment?

It all depends how he is living with his parents .
Perhaps he needs to take care of them .
Perhaps he’s an only child.
Perhaps he just went through a divorce and needs to bounce back.
I don’t see nothing wrong …..

NO.
Why should I?
I paid and settle them before they gave me their daughter, I literally bought her from them so why should they move in?

Depending on the circumstances. If you live and work in the same place with let's say your aged parents and you are the only child. Will you leave them and rent another house. Oh plus let's say the house is so spacious.

Well you think am a feminist

You are wrong, I only want to make sure every woman is making her own contribution in a man's life

Besides I don't like nonsense things or people taking others for granted

I love people who are serious and focus about their life because time waits for no one

so men who are living with their aged parents and taking care of them are not focus?

i am not of the opinion that young people should stay too long with their parents. An Eagle pushes eaglets out of the nest so they can soar. After graduation from a tertiary institution with job secured or succesful completion of artisanship and established to practice, it is time to set them free with justified occasional support from parent. If care is not taken, many entitled kids will not build gut and perseverance needed for sustainable success in life.

Its only a bad condition thst can keep a man of that age under gid parents roof

Besides my contribution to that wasn't bad

I said I will plan with him to pack out and get a room

Was it out of place

You actually got my comments wrong

If a lady inspired you to pack out especially if you have a job doing

Its not a bad idea, it's a good move

If there are jobs available, why will a man remain with his parents

The dream of every parents is for their children to stand on their own

So if you haven't gotten a job yet, no one will ask you to psvk out because the person won't feed you

Now back to this topic that brought this argument

The OP didn't say if a man that is not working

He only said is it idle for a man living with his parents at a certain age bracket

So he wasn't specific

We are a family of 8 and we all grew up in a 3BR Flat, Dad passed on, 3 siblings got married and moved out. Mum went to live with 1 of us outside the country which left only 3 siblings in the flat.
At some point my younger sister got married and also moved out and it was my brother and another sibling alone in the flat and I guess he didn't feel the need to go and rent another apartment when he was not married and no pressure. Has a good paying job within close proximity to the house, why would he want to move out?

The last sibling needed a space for her fashion business and we all discussed it and my brother suggested she used one of the rooms instead of spending thousands on a new space and furnishings.

We all come together at the end of the year and space was becoming an issue so my brother decided to get his own flat few months to his wedding and he was in his mid 30s. His wife use to visit and I don't think she had a problem with him still staying in our parents flat even though he could afford his own.

So it really isn't an issue.

good morning, in my own case, our father have a 5bed rooms flat,my own selfcon with sitting room, bedroom and toilet. I will have leave as soon as I got a job, but mum is sick, dad is not that healthy too,and my siblings are not around. I have to stay back to take care of mother and maintenance of the house which I take responsibility for. By God grace I am planning to do my own house project by December or January. Even if the house is completed,I may not live there, I may still have to rent it out till their health get better or back to normal. Uncle always told me to stay back ,that as soon as their health improve, I will move on

There's nothing wrong living in your parents house, even if you are in your 40's. I see nothing bad in that, it's just a matter of choice.
