It is better to suffer it at this early stage and enjoy and the later stage

This is what I said while Buhari destroyed us for 8 years ...it not about suffering,he has triggered a fuel and inflation crisis he currently has no control over

Oga I will keep arguing because already we are already heavily indebted so the IMF arguement doesn't hold water. If government can hurriedly apply for $800m loan few days to handover why can't they borrow to sustain subsidy until Dangote starts supplying domestic fuel?

Is it that there are no economic analysts in government to see what impact this will have on the country?

Lord, this one does not get how destructive subsidy is.

Am out.

it is definitely not a good sign,it should not be rushed to be the first thing he will do,even the careless statement will now cause fuel to be hoarded, this is not how a team works,

Subsidy benefits every one, both the Rich and the Poor

It's government ineptitude the causes an over blotted subsidy payments to oil marketers

Answer my question first.
cost of importation is what gave rise to cost of fuel not directly cost of production.

If you were selling bread that cost you say 1000 naira to bake ar 1500 a loaf, would you support goverment setting the price of your bread at 300 a loaf to help poor people?

Be honest

Removal of subsidies indeed grin grin grin Make I bend if Tinubu removes subsidies fully. this panic-mode will enrich fuel marketers for at least 2-3 months before Tinubu back-tracks into semi-fuel subsidies. Things Tinubu/Shetimma should do with immediate alacrity

1: dissolve NNPC and keep a single 10-man office in each oil producing state to monitor and account for revenue-inflows, remove Buhari's daughter from the board of directors (non-executive)

2: enact law by executive order to reduce allowances to senators and reps by 95% to reflect exactly what the poor and struggling are facing

3: spark true industrialization by forcing the Chinese to improve knowledge-transfer and open up factories in Nigeria or better yet, give loans and infrastructure support to local producers

So one day the Govt must be bold enough to remove the thing and deal with any filling station that try to take advantage of people....

Go to Neighboring countries they're not selling dere own fuel they all prefer to snuggle from Nigeria and sell to people inside Keg....

And na still our people they steal or buy the fuel carry am cross border go sell ...

Any filling station that hoard fuel should be dealt with the indiscipline is just too much other Africa countries will start something and you will never see any crisis or them wanting to rip themselves....

Make soldiers go out tomorrow go flog dem filling station attendants wey dey sell for high price with koboko.

You are surely among logically and mentally sound people here. At the bolded he can't remove subsidy with the current system, he will bug down after few months no matter how good his intentions and propaganda might be. He will either start it in phase like you said semi-subsidy or subsidy continues. The back lash will definitely be massive. I don't see him sustaining the subsidy removal.

Don't mind all these people. The announcement was ill-timed. No matter the intention, the inflation, panic-buy and hoarding will sky rocket and a place like Nigeria it will take time to get all the outlets to regulate back to normal price so we are going to witness disruption in peoples living for few days or perhaps week and these will bring untold hardship. Everyone agrees on the removal but the process of removing it should be as important as the removal and you can't just wake up and announce such. Buhari has set a lot of bobby trap for BAT government, I hope and pray he will have enough wisdom and man power to navigate them and make good decisions.

Too Ill timed , he didn't need to speak about bit yesterday at all , I mean he hasn't even reached his office to know the entire situation of things on ground and hasn't even put a single petroleum strategy team in place .. Today he go to work late and start calling the NNPC boss to ask him what is going on

I believe subsidy will find it way back because the rich will sponsor the poor to protest against FG's decision.

Is it that you people don't read or you are just mischievous? There's no provision in the budget for fuel subsidy beyond May! It ends in May. June is just tomorrow. So Even without his announcement panic buying and hoarding will still happen. It's now up to him how he handles it. Nigerians are their own enemies.

It doesn't matter , he should have just shut up yesterday till he was in full Control of the sector and govt , hope you realise he hadn't even gone to his office to start work , he should have kept quiet till he had all his meeting with stakeholders and draft the best possible way to remove it ..many things must be in place ..Now he hasn't even removed it but people are already taken advantage of the situation to make 3 times profit

The bolded is sooo true.. I think he wanted to be politically correct by mentioning it on the inauguration day as a way to deflect the later blame to outgoing government so that when he removes it people won't blame him but that's not how government works.

30 years ago IMF came and advocated for us to devalue our currency and to implement structural adjustment to better position our economy globally. Where has that led us?

Now the subsidy debate...... Pray do tell, is subsidy the only thing wrong with this country? What have we benefitted for the massive debt that has been inflicted on us by the previous government?

Again I ask.... WHY CANT THE GOVERNMENT WAIT 2 MONTHS FOR DOMESTICALLY PRODUCED FUEL TO FLOOD THE MARKET BEFORE REMOVING SUBSIDY?

It has been removed in the budget, don't you get it? What he should do is to send out officials to seal erring petrol stations. He shouldn't stop there, he should arrest owners of such petrol stations. This government has to be decisive against bad elements in government and outside government that are bent on destroying the country.
Re: Queues Resurface As Tinubu Announces Fuel Subsidy Removal by goalsplanners: 8:59am On May 30, 2023
Announcing fuel subsidy removal during an inauguration was not particularly wise in my opinion.
It would create a premature, artificial and unnecessary scarcity .
His handles need to help him manage economic information because every comment he makes has an implication on so many critical fundamentals.
