Dear Fellow Nigerians, Let’s Discuss Fuel Subsidy by Wordsfrombimpe(f): 6:40pm On May 31, 2023 |
Dear fellow Nigerians, I hope this message finds you well. Today, I would like to address an issue of great importance to our nation: fuel subsidy. It is no secret that fuel subsidy has been a subject of debate and controversy in our country for many years. As we discuss this matter, I urge you to approach it with an open mind and a spirit of unity, keeping in mind the greater good of our nation. Fuel subsidy was initially introduced with the intention of making petroleum products more affordable and accessible to the Nigerian people. However, over time, it has become a burden on our economy, draining significant resources that could be allocated to other crucial sectors such as healthcare, education, infrastructure, and social welfare programs. The truth is that fuel subsidy has been susceptible to corruption, inefficiency, and mismanagement. It has created an avenue for rent-seeking and has not always translated into the benefits it was intended to provide. We need to acknowledge this reality and find a more sustainable and equitable solution. I understand that the removal or reduction of fuel subsidy can lead to short-term challenges, particularly for the most vulnerable members of our society. Therefore, any decision regarding fuel subsidy should be accompanied by measures to mitigate its impact on those who are most affected. These measures may include targeted social welfare programs, support for public transportation, and investments in renewable energy sources. Additionally, it is essential that the savings from reducing or eliminating fuel subsidy are reinvested wisely in critical sectors of our economy. We must prioritize diversification and invest in infrastructure, agriculture, technology, and human capital development to create opportunities and foster sustainable economic growth. This way, we can build a stronger and more prosperous Nigeria for future generations. Change is often accompanied by challenges, but it is through unity, resilience, and a shared vision that we can overcome them. Let us engage in constructive dialogue, actively participate in the democratic process, and hold our leaders accountable for their decisions and actions. Finally, I want to emphasize that the ultimate goal should be the long-term benefit of all Nigerians. We must strive for a transparent and accountable system that ensures the efficient use of our resources and the well-being of our people. Together, we can forge a brighter future for Nigeria. Let us embrace this opportunity to build a more sustainable, prosperous, and equitable nation. Yours sincerely, [Digital Bimpe ] |

There is nothing like fuel subsidy. What we have is poorly managed economy. The current exchange rate puts Nigerians in perpetual slavery in the hand of poor leaders. Petrol is selling at about $1.0, that is about #750. Without considering the logistics of importing it. So, even if they peg it at #600, in 2 years time, they will still tell us the same story. We need our refineries working. For 8 year Buhari was busy galivanting and do nothing, even as Oil Minister. 3 Likes 1 Share |

Fuel subsidy is corruption and syphoning channel which need to be blocked for our country to move forward, but decisive measures should have been put in place to mitigate the effect like making fuel available, draconian punishment should be meted on those hoarding and sabotaging the effort of the government. also the government should supply crude oil to local and modular refineries at lower price 2 Likes 1 Share |
