But subsidy has not been removed. You all need to brace up for more. Subsidy will go in June, based on the budget. Thereafter we should see what prices should be like, based on market forces.

That, it was budgeted for doesn't mean it has been paid for. They actually paid for subsidy from January to May. For June, nothing was paid for. So, what you are seeing now is the present realities of no more subsidy.

Why will they reject a price fix by a private company mugu?

Let them collect license to import fuel so they can sell at #5 per liter to Nigerians.

NLC has chosen to be partisan. It has lost its relevancy. The next 4 yrs will be interesting to see.

If only the money gotten from subsidy removal will be used judiciously and not stolen, people will endure

My understanding is that govt. was borrowing to pay for subsidy. If that is the case, it's not like money is being saved, they are just trying to stop the debt from growing. They will still need to keep servicing the existing debt, the cost of which has now apparently exceeded the country's revenue.

Good evening, what did the government put in place to cushion the harsh effect of this fuel price increment?

I saw a man this evening at Wuse market with just 500 and he was going to Mararaba, he was stranded. In the morning, transportation was normal but it was tripled this evening.

I also know some people receiving 30/35k per month here in Abuja bearing in mind that no one with such salary can afford to pay a rent here in Abuja hence most of them stay at Suleja(Niger State) or Mararaba/Masaka (Nasarawa State).

What are the plan by the government to ameliorate their plight?

Bros, d issue be say, money no dey!! international organisation no want borrow us for subsidy too... Forcing d govt would only lead to delay in salary payment & other stuff...Strike has to be about something tangible e.g, cutting unnecessary expenses by d politicians etc..make everybody endure together

So any filling station can fix whatever price they want to? Even if it's 1k per litre? You need mental evaluation

Stop being dramatic. If NNPC own is N512 and oil marketer is N1000, would anyone buy it?

Diesle inflation has done more damage to Nigerians than petrol will ever do. Food increasing like 3x in past year is mainly due to diesel increase from N150 to N800 in the past year because heavy duty haulage trucks use diesel not petrol.

Agreed this will cause local transport fares of individuals to increase, but instead what labour should be fighting for is a salary top up line specifically for increased transport for workers of say N10k and general inflation top up of another N20k for lowest workers. Private sector should also be encouraged to do similar top ups for their staff.

Left to me we have too many staff in government anyway. Too unproductive! For me I'd relieve like 30% of civil servants of their jobs.

And beyond this we all need to be more creative how we move around. Despite this petrol increase you won't fail to see our women packing themselves in bus, going for one party or burial somewhere. If it's too expensive, stay at home instead of unnecessary trips.

The NLC are empty individuals. Government didn't fix petrol prices, NNPC did for their filling stations.

By virtue of the Petroleum Industry Act, NNPC is a private company and no longer a government corporation. The price fixed by the NNPC are independent.

Filling stations that are not under the NNPC franchise can sell at whatever price they want.

Let's face it, the NLC wanted their party to win. The leadership of the trade union endorsed the Labour Party during this year's general elections.

It is painful when groups try to stall genuine and pertinent economic plans because they're not in power. It is counterproductive to play politics when its time for governance. Tinubu himself and the most members of the APC countered Jonathan when he started the process of removing fuel subsidy many years ago.

However, the NLC and sister organisation the Labour Party will fail to stop the removal of fuel subsidy and will fail to win elections in 2027 😂
U have no sense

You will expect that when citizens are under pressure they will hold their government and leaders to a higher level of scrutiny and accountability.

But no. They are busy throwing ethnic bric-bats while the savings accrued from the end of subsidy is shared by the invading army of contractors and Abuja fat cats.

Watch and see how a new set of overnight 'briefcase billionaires' emerge in the next few weeks and months.

NLC currently are weaklings they are those making governments to maltreat Nigerians because they don’t talk, have you all forgotten that the independent marketers hike the pump price by themselves during cash scarcity? I am pretty sure this timing was part of their bargain with govt to increase it after swearing Tinubu in, however the previous administration make provision for 6 month’s subsidy which means we are yet to complete it as there’s still fresh one month before fully deregulating it, but yeah they hurriedly refused to comply with this provision till 6months elapsed NLC are just foolish
