Biggest benefit will be lack of petrol queues - subsidies just create huge mess. Secondly, 12B savings hopefully will be invested in electricity.

I'm really happy he had the balls to do it. His first meeting was with the CBN governor and the GMD NNPC. it all seems the naira has been pegged closer to or around N600/1.

In the coming months, Fx arbitrage should be gone too, that was very wasteful and only benefitted the elite.

Dangote soon will buy Senate to impose import ban of refined fuel - to "save dollars". Abuja will play along after getting huge bribes. Then he will monopolize the market.

Subsaharan:

The NMDPRA would begin to Issue import licenses to anyone who wants to bring in the product. The market is now fully deregulated. This is 46 years in the making. Dangote would have to compete with other marketers if his products don't cut it, he should export it to gain Fx. The Saudis and Indians are making a killing by exporting their diesel and importing cheap Russian petroleum products

https://oilprice.com/Energy/Energy-General/Saudi-Arabia-Is-Profiting-From-Its-Record-High-Diesel-Trade.html

He will also have to contend with the NNPC for market share. The Port Harcourt refinery would soon come online. demand and supply.

Shut up.

The Nigerian Midstream and Downstream Petroleum Regulatory Authority (NMDPRA) says it is ready to issue licences to companies interested in petrol importation.

Speaking to journalists on Tuesday, Farouk Ahmed, chief executive officer of NMDPRA, said the criteria for importing kerosene and diesel will be applicable for the importation of the product.

However, Ahmed said several conditions have to be met before the applicants are granted licences.

“There are a lot of conditions to be met before you are given a licence to import petrol,” he said.

“I cannot give you all the rundown now but I can tell you that just the way marketers import diesel or jet kero, there are conditions for all that and the same condition will apply to those who want to import premium motor spirit (PMS).”

Only companies that are lessees producing crude oil and/or condensates or who are holders of crude oil refining licences are eligible to supply wholesale petroleum liquids (including petrol importation), according to section 197 (2) of the Petroleum Industry Act (PIA) 2021.

While the PIA empowers the NMDPRA to issue licences to refiners or producers of crude oil, the regulation, in sections 73 (3) and 111 (1), provides that the minister of petroleum must approve such licences.

Currently, the Nigerian National Petroleum Company (NNPC) is the last-resort supplier, tasked with importing refined petrol to ensure adequate supply and distribution in the country.

Through the direct sale, direct purchase (DSDP) scheme, the country exports crude oil and exchanges it for refined petroleum products.

Honestly, I expected this level of incompetence from a wartorn country.

Despite $30 billion of debt mostly belonging to western private lenders while China only owns I believe around $2 ~ $3 billion of Ghana's debt, the westerners like the Paris Club aren't the ones calling their debt in. China is.

Ghana's reliance on Chinese loans for large-scale projects has put the government at risk of losing future energy sales and a portion of earnings from mineral resources. If they had defaulted, they might have lost the control of their own resources just to pay off their own debt to China. Ghana nominal GDP took a nose dive from $72 billion in 2022 down to an estimated $66 billion in 2023 and whose economic growth will not recover back to normal levels pre-pandemic until 2027 (5%) assuming nothing else goes wrong.

So, basically the country got poorer overall.

edit:

Well, its been declining since 2021.

Son,
What is the difference in quality between TZ maize and yours? Remember, the maize sold in kenya is mostly sourced from TZTZ.

Almost all kenya maize is hybrid..meaning uniform taste, size and color.Uganda and Tanzania maize are rarely hybrid. Kenya millers do not accept those maize for human feeds. It has to be blended with kenya maize then you bribe milling employees. If they buy they use it for animal feeds.

we didn't. Kenya Railways signed take or pay deal with Kenya Ports Authority.China insisted on very expensive insurance of their loan..something like 2.5 percent. We are not defaulting but soon getting more loan from China to extend SGR.Remember kenya since 2011 has collected Railway Development Levy charged on every import. This is more than sufficient to pay off Railway loans

You are dumb.

Almost all TZ maize I hybrid too. No one can harvest a good crop without using hybrid seeds. It's actually stupid to think TZ which exports millions of tonnes of maize annually is achieving that without hybrid seeds. Sometimes learn how to hide your stupidity. You even need to know not all hybrid seeds have the same sizes.

And u become more stupid by thinking the size of maize is important when your aim is just to grind it into powder.

It's laughable for hunger stricken nation li,e yourself to try sound big by claiming to have animals who needs animal feed than what your human population needs. You starve, but u try lying by saying u buy maize to feed animals?

I have been involved in cross border maize trade.Stop cheap insult. Its only recently that likes of kenya seeds have open branches in your backwater to sell hybrid seeds.Ask any kenya miller if they accept your maize on good day.Kenya normally produces 35m bags of maize with deficit of 10m bags. Kenya has Africa largest dairy sector with huge demand for animal feed. Most of your poor quality aflatoxin maize is not fit for animal feeds leave alone humans. Kenyans love ugali so much they can tell your poor maize.I told you i use to drive to kenya when i run out maize flour. No way I can eat Uganda maize flour.

Its not that China is "smart", its that politicians in Ghana are corrupt.

It went on a spending spree with forecast from revenues from oil led to huge borrowing which has made Ghana a debt distressed country thats currently broke.

Ghana turned into another Sri Lanka via mismanagement.
