i jus went to watch the match highlights again on FIFA website, they started the highlight from second half of the game and it started with Nigeria chance of hitting the woodwork off a coner kick run of play…meanin that all their yeye possessions in first half was nothing to write home about…Nigeria really surrendered the midfield to them and allowed them enjoyed their status as host and upper hand in football…but when the real deal came we showed them pepper 🌶

I wanted to say this too, fifa compilation shows how the game went. 90% of their threats were after our 1st goal. The highlights even had only 3 dangerous chances from the argies. Nothing else. And na 2nd half highlights. Lol.

#21 Chijioke Aniagboso (GK) was the epitome of Composure and Calm as he dominated his 18 yards box thwarting Argentine attacks, kickstarting Nigerian attacks thanks to his long ball plays and dominating aerials.

His ball passing at the back quite the delight to behold and shows a young goalie willing to grow in the game.

His 5 saves (4 inside the box) ensured his 2nd cleansheet of the World Cup tournament.

His long balls are also a weapon for this team. He set up Jude Sunday vs Italy with one of such Long ball passes and his long balls also helped start the sequences that led to Nigeria's 2 goals vs Argentina. He is quite the GK. A GK who influences our attack as much as he does in defence.



#12 Benjamin Frederick. What a rock of a young defender. He sat out the Brazil game to keep him fresh for the KOs and returned to drop another defensive Masterclass against the highly fancied host of the competition on their home ground. Insane Mentality.

Frederick showed adeptness in his ball carries & passing as he showed solidity in his 1v1 defending and space defending. A true defensive leader at the back who swept, blocked & cleared all attacking threats away with intelligence & assertive poise.

He recorded 2 tackles, 10 clearances and was not dribbled past once.

Won 100% of his ground duels and won 3 out of 4 aerial duels.

A fast, agile and hard-as-nails defender who's good on the ball and nearly unbeatable in 1v1 duels.

The Nigerian #12 has come at a time Nigerian football is truly in need of a new defensive stalwart in the Super Eagles and this guy, Frederick is a likely answer to those prayers with time. He's gonna be huge with the right development & decision making on his next career steps.

In Benjamin Frederick (18), Jeremiah Olaleke (17), Abel Ogwuche (20 next month) and Igoh Ogbu (23), Nigeria can again look forward to really sound CB options for the next decade or more in transitive sync with what we have now and few other youngies coming through




#5 Abel Ogwuche. The Ying to Frederick's Yang at the heart of the Nigerian back 4. A defensive monster in the air who won 5 aerial duels and also made a fantastic block in front of the keeper off an Infantino close range strike inside the box. Abel's mix of ball playing nous, Calm and assertive defending makes him quite the perfect Sweeper foil to Benjamin's more aggressive defensive approach.

His aerial prowess is another thing of great note as he's won the most aerial duels for Nigeria at this tournament so far (11 in 4 games).

The more he plays, the more he keeps proving himself another real deal defensive talent.



#3 Solomon Agbalaka is still yet to assert himself as he did at the U20 Afcon where he emerged best LB of the tournament but again he did just enough to keep the team's defensive shape at the back.

Seeing that Nigeria played a high defensive line yesterday against the Argies in sync with a mid block approach as the game wore on, Agbalaka did decently to sit back and form the core of the "rest defence" to deal with potential turnovers from Nigerian attacking transitions.

His 4 clearances, 2 blocks, 2 interceptions & 1 tackle Showed a LB kept busier on the defensive front than in the offensive department. In all, a Solid LB showing from Agbalaka.



#2 Daniel Bameyi at RB will always see his technical flaws less exposed than we saw at CB vs Brazil. At RB, the lad enjoys the privilege of focusing much more on his strengths as a hardworking defensive "water carrier."
His defensive work ethic and stamina (+ long throws) at RB remain his only true attributes as he recorded 6 clearances, 3 tackles, 2 blocks and 1 interception although he was also the most beaten of all our defenders seeing that he was dribbled past at least 5 times vs Argentina.

That notwithstanding, he didn't let his head fall when he was beaten times frequently and must be commended for fighting till the end and putting his body about strongly for the team.

He is still poor technically, with underaverage passing range/ability but he is Captain Selfless at the back and also formed the core of our "Rest defence" in sync with Agbalaka & the CBs in case of turnovers from our attacking transitions.



#4 Daniel Daga continues to impress wildly at this tournament. Undisputedly the Man of the match and the lad on the lips of almost every analyst and pundit seeing this tournament. A young midfield lad with the technical qualities of a maestro and the bullishness of a Monster and most importantly, the Mentality of an Elite.

Intelligently aggressive in duels, smartly covers grounds, great in interceptions, commanding in vertically progressive plays, press resistant, composed in posession and forward playing.

Daga won all his ground duels (5/5 - 100%), made 4 clearances, 4 tackles, 3 interceptions, 1 block and was not dribbled past once.

Also recorded 3 accurate long balls & 18 accurate passes from 45 touches even against a side that had much of the ball.


In the words of the #ARGNGA Match Commentator after Daga made another vital interception, "Dat's a crucial touch frm Daga. He's played dat role brilliantly tonite for 🇳🇬 just in front of d back 4 & remember, He's only 16. He's showed great discipline. His ability to defend large spaces has been excellent"

The Commentator also added much much later into the 90mins mark (as Daga walked off the pitch with an official after taking a knock before coming on just as we went to score a second) via paraphrase, "There he is... That young man, the number 4, Daniel Daga. He's been really good today in front of that backline. Coming up against a side like this at level and he has passed the test in flying colors"

In Daniel Daga, we have a true midfield gem on the rise all the way from Dakkada FC of Nigeria holding his own against some of the best youngsters in the world affiliated with Chelsea, Man City, Sporting Lisbon, Lazio, Inter Milan and etc.

In time, hopefully the likes of Daga, Eletu, Akinsanmiro, Nnadi, Ebube Okere, Raphael Oyebanjo, Jamiu Musbaudeen etc would mature technically, tactically and mentally to become Top Quality mainstay midfield options in the Super Eagles beyond even the next decade. This is our genuine longterm hope.






#8 Tochukwu Nnadi. Nnadi is a such a pearl in the middle of this Nigerian side. He brings the energy, the intensity and that decent level of technicality in our progressive vertical plays. Call him the "Michael Essien" of this team and you won't be far from the truth. A box to box demon.
His role vs Argentina ensured that Daga didn't have to go Box-to-Box this time. Nnadi's role interpretation was key to why Daga was able to focus solely on sitting in front of the back 4 and screening that defence with Poise and class.
He completed 24 passes (75% passing accuracy), attracted 3 fouls to ease pressure on the Flying Eagles and recorded sound defensive stats (2 interceptions, 1 tackle, 1 block).

His biggest moment in the game was when he came so close to putting Nigeria ahead on 58mins with a beautiful strike from outside the box which rattled the Argentine Cross bar following a corner kick situation.

Nnadi's ability to escape the press, ballplay in plays progression and defend in off ball situations make him quite the Bison in midfield. Another solid performance from the Botev lad.





#18 Samson Lawal. He didn't score today unlike against Dominican Republic but I believe this has to be Lawal's best showing of the tournament so far. What a Monstrous performance from the young man.

He absolutely justified Bosso's faith in him and even proved me wrong. Yes he surely did. When I saw his name in the first XI, I wasn't so convinced based on his last 2 games but my goodness, Lawal really stepped up to a whole other level yesterday.

He was everywhere in midfield winning tackles, making interceptions, winning duels and providing passing lane outlets for his fellow midfielders and other players. He also had the time to create 2 chances.

A superb hardworking and well rounded midfield performance. Lawal truly proved to be a great hand in the high line pressing approach. Hopefully more of this to follow from the Number 18.





#10 Victor Eletu. This lad really doesn't need 45mins to shine does he? 😂😂 He comes in for just 11mins left in regulation time + 8 mins added time and still showed his class and desire to fight for his teammates.

In just 11mins+, Eletu made 5 touches, recorded 100% accurate passes (3), created a big chance, picked the pocket of the Argentine captain out-duelling him and providing the sweetest of assists.

He was truly another inspired substitution from Ladan Bosso and what a player he is indeed gonna become as he keeps maturing and growing in the game.

Bosso may not be the best tactician out there, but one thing I love about him is how effective his substitutions has been

*Nnadi, Lawal, Fago, Muhammed Beji & Jude were key to the highline press cum midblock-counter attack approach

*Introduction of Haliru and Umeh saw us turn our highline/midblock player positionings when in offensive ball transitions into threatening attack situations.




#11 Ibrahim Muhammed Beji. He has finally taken off in Argentina! 🔥 Our best player at the Wafu B and at the U20 Afcon has finally come to the party not just for his well taken goal but for his overall contributions vs the Argies. Muhammed truly was at his hardworking best and kinda close to his balanced best yesterday.

A hardworker in defensive transitions and a threat in attacking transitions, he completed the most dribbles of any Nigerian player on the pitch.

It's good news for Bosso and the Lads and bad news for opponents that Muhammed Beji is finally coming into his own at this tournament. Hopefully he goes a notch higher in the next KO game.





#15 Jude Sunday. Not among his finest of showings but he still worried in bits with his technical skills and pace. Had a crack at goal in the 55th min which was saved. Mostly marked out by the Argentines who obviously pointed him out as a Naija dangerman. Was rightly subbed out for Haliru Sarki but expect more from the hugely talented Jude as Nigeria march on at this World Cup. His talents & game changing ability could always come in handy in crucial moments.




#9 Salim Fago Lawal. Bosso has more reasons than I can see for sticking with Lawal. One of such is the lad's targetman profile which provides a fine point of reference for our attack but yesterday he didn't do much. Another is Fago's key part in the highline press with his runnings and work ethic. Aside these though, He lost almost all his duels and even bagged an offside before being hauled off on 57mins for Umeh.
A substitution that proved to be a tactically inspired one.






#7 Haliru Rilwanu Sarki. This guy always impresses off the bench so much that he has become some sort of Genuine Super Sub and he isn't the only one.
He came in for Jude and immediately brought further intensity to our right wing plays and also provided sound cover for Daniel Bameyi in defensive transitions. His willingness to track back and cover for his RB in addition to his attacking threat as a direct playing skillful winger makes him quite the raw package just waiting to be properly polished.
Haliru Sarki has got the traits and ability to become a truly well rounded winger. All he needs is proper nurturing and he will grow into the complete wing machine with elevated game-changing ability.

Took his Goal well thanks to Eletu's good work.
Goal is almost a mirror replica of Chinedu Ogbuke Obasi's header against same Argentina back in the 2005 U20 WC Final.

#19 Emmanuel Umeh. Another genuine Super Sub akin to Haliru Sarki. Umeh is quite showing himself to be a well rounded forward seeing how comfortable he is coming from both flanks just as he is adept naturally as a CF.
He held up/controlled the ball beautifully and strongly before setting up Muhammed Beji intelligently with a finely weighted lofted pass over the Argentine defence. A beauty of an assist which led to a beautiful goal from another audacious Aniagboso long ball which circumstantially found its way pass few bounces & touches to Umeh.

Umeh's strong on-ball quality and direct-playing style saw him attract 2 fouls, create a big chance, win 3 duels, have a shot on target and eventually bag a lovely assist. A consistent game changer for the team.






Others:

#20 Joshua John. Came in and put his body about decently as we ran down the clock. A decent game-management player in Bosso's arsenal.


#17 Kehinde Ibrahim. Came in and ran the clock down with his "hit the floor" theatrics after being pushed by Luka Romero in the dying mins of added time. He is obviously another lad Bosso uses to game-manage the final moments of a game. Lol







Coach Ladan Bosso: 8.5/10.

He selected a first XI based on the ability to keep up with the Argentines Athletically and dominate physically before bringing on the subs who changed the game hugely on the technical side.

His first XI was also primarily selected to implement the High line press which also dropped to midblock press in some phases.

A coach whose 3 changes end up having a direct hand in all goals scored deserves high marks.

Umeh came in for Fago and bagged an assist for the first goal with an intelligent bit of play, clipping a ball over the Argentine defence and into Muhammed Beji's path.

Haliru Sarki came in for Jude Sunday and delivered not just the "Game over" Goal but also a technical pacy threat as equal to what Jude brings characteristically.


Victor Eletu came in even later for Goal scorer, Muhammed Beji and assisted the second with a bravely sound piece of play.

Bosso deserves high marks for his substitution decisions and for his ability to get the team to stay disciplined in their high line and midblock counter attack approach.

But the team did get cracked time and again via our right channel at different game phases and could have gone behind had it not been for Aniagboso's heroics + Solid defending from Frederick, Ogwuche and Daga but in all, he did well tactically.
The introduction of Haliru Sarki though turned the tides on that right flanks as he gave Bameyi an extra hand in defence in addition to Frederick's occasional help towards to the right side of defence.


Beating a traditionally strong South American side such as Argentina at home is not something any African side has had the privilege of doing at any level. Let that sink in. This is another famous victory for Bosso and the Lads.

The question has nothing to do with what I like or do not like.

The point is, there is a working system adopted by most top sides. It has shown to improve players and teams.

So if parking bus and counter attacking is what you all approve, how come it is a system not adopted by quality sides.

This is sticking to a system that is not working in the long run.

Yes. You both did well. Joebie also was positive. I decided to stay neutral as I needed to see Bosso's first XI and didn't wanna come across as giving overpraise. But silently, I had a good feeling especially when I saw the antics of the Argentines prior to the game.

I am glad the Lads got the job done in front of that hostile home crowd.

This is good but you need to see the knocks we gave Jacek Kulig on Twitter before he finally made this post.

Initially Jacek was talking up Bameyi as the best defensive talent on the Nigerian U20 team but a few others on twitter and I rubbished his assessment calling it for what it is. A dishonest poorly researched scouting work.

Jacek compared Bameyi to Cesar Azpilicueta. It was ridiculous.

We let him know that there are other far better defensive talents on this Nigerian team yet he chose to focus on Bameyi like some other scout accounts were doing coordinatively before the U20 WC started as if it was a paid PR work or something.

The man argued, finally we have been proven right.

The lesson here is don't take these scouts 100% seriously. Some of them are paid to give publicity to certain players even though they will still talk about the genuine talented ones.

On our Nigerian U20 team, we literally Schooled him into submission.
