No Protest Against Fuel Subsidy Removal For Now – Labour by EcoBrick: 4:52pm On Jun 01, 2023

The Nigeria Labour Congress says it has no plan to hold any nationwide protest on Friday against the present hike in price of Premium Motor Spirit (PMS) popularly known as petrol caused by subsidy removal.

The Congress said though it was outraged by what it described as “mindless price increase which is intended to bring untold hardship to ordinary Nigerians” no protest yet.

Comrade Joe Ajaero, President of NLC, in a statement on Thursday signed by the Congress’ Head of Information Unit, Benson Upah, reacted to reports in some quarters that the organised labour had scheduled a protest for Friday.

Daily Trust had reported that the meeting between the organised labour and the federal government representatives on Wednesday at the State House, Abuja, on the removal of subsidy ended in a stalemate as no agreement was reached.

Clarifying the labour’s position, Ajaero explained that the union would hold meetings tomorrow (Friday) to deliberate on the issue.

He said, “Our attention has been drawn to stories circulating in the social media space claiming that the Nigeria Labour Congress would commence protest action tomorrow (Friday, June 2nd) against the increase in the pump price of PMS.

“In as much as we are outraged by this mindless price increase which is intended to bring untold hardship to ordinary Nigerians, we have no plan to start any action tomorrow.

“What we do have for now are organ meetings slated for tomorrow, Friday, June 2nd, 2023 to deliberate on the price issue. We promise to keep Nigerians informed on our next line of action after our meetings.

“In light of this, we advise the public to disregard these stories. They did not emanate from the Congress.”

NLC should insist on removing the subsidy by 50%. When you remove it by 50%, use that money to provide palliatives ahead of total removal in a couple of years.

Why can't the government pay this subsidy to Dangote refinery directly and have the refinery supply it to Nigerians if they claim that corruption is the problem?

Good. Let nothing stop this removal. We will weather the storm, and with time things will even out and regain balance. Let's see what the governments will complain about after this. Also, let the NNPCL allow interested parties import all the types of petroleum products.

Comrade Joe Ajaero, President of NLC fit test his popularity on this issue by calling for a Protest/Strike

Subsidy has gone with the Buhari Administration.

I trust Asiwaju on this issue though, he won't backtrack.

What stops the FG from having at least one functional refinery instead?

Good...

Although I'm sceptical about the fuel subsidy removal at this time.

But the question is, when is the best time or right time to get it removed?

I will still go with the president's directives that it should be removed immediately and in full.

Let's suffer it once and for all and enjoy later.

If it's partially removed now, transporters will still increase their fare and after the some time, if the government remove it totally, they will still increase their fare.

That's double punishment.

I trust Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu to roll out his incentive to cussion the effect of the suffering masses.

It's becoming unbearable for the people, esp the salary earners. I hope the needful is done before things get out of hands. NLC can't stop people from hitting the streets for a protest.

🤣🤣🤣🤣

When things get to the worst, it begins to mend.

In the case of Nigeria, it has not gotten to the worst, therefore, nothing is going to mend in the foreseeable future (4 years)

Of course Labour has suddenly lost their voice because it is APC that is concerned. If it were a gentle Jonathan, it would have been a nationwide shutdown. angry

Labour party ordered no protest against Election rigging.
That gave APC and INEC ample opportunity to consolidate their election fraud.

Labour orders no protest against Fuel prize hiked due to sudden removal of subsidy.
That will give APC government ample time to hatch more discomfort for the people.

When one remembers Jonathan government and Lagos protesters against Fuel prize hike. ..

Subsidy no subsidy everyday without data.
Same subsidy abach removed and used to setup PTF headed by buhari that ate all the money and only repair northern roads.
Granny agbado saying we are subsiding fuel for neighbouring countries. How? So we should buy fuel at the same price with our neighbours that don't produce oil while we do because the govt have can't check the illegal exportation of fuel from Nigeria to our neighbouring countries. Those in the far north even go to Niger to buy dem no send nnpc.
After all the embezzlement, we will hear subsidy in the next govt. U guys can just go ahead and be deceiving yourselves.
