As long as certain people are still being recycled in the Government, completely eradicating subsidy related corruption will not be achieved.
1. Crude theft
2. Power sector crisis
3. Crippled industries
4. Porous Borders
5. Confused Forex trading
6. Disabled Industries

The above are all directly related to or are part of subsidy corruption.

You have to attack problems from the source or foundation.

Madam Ngozi Okonja-Iweala the number one proponent of fuel subsidy removal in Nigeria told us several years ago that subsidy should be removed. As at that time, the economy was robust but resources vast diminishing with subsidy payment. She knows subsidy will end up exhausting the resources she was protecting as the Minister of Finance and Head of FG economic team. Finally, it happened and fuel subsidy is now being funded from loans despite its removal from AGO and JetKero.

Now, the situation is not hopeless as it presents us with opportunities. The MD of NNPC analyzed the opportunities for us. He said that Nigeria’s neighbouring countries can now legitimately import fuel from Nigeria, rather than utilise the smuggling route.

According to him, to take advantage of the situation, Nigeria will now convert smuggling to a legitimate market because the objective is to be the supplier to West Africa and the surroundings. I think this is a great opportunity. Dangote Refinery and other Refineries coming online would benefit from West and Central Africa markets. This is good for Nigeria.

Finally, Nigeria will move forward. Atiku knows Tinubu very well. He knows once the issue of subsidy payment on PMS is settled, great development in different sectors would explode. PDP elected officials at the Senate and House of Reps should join hands to settle this problem finally. We all know subsidy cabal manipulated the Senate processes to produce Saraki as Senate President in 2015.

Many people who comment here don't even know the meaning, impact of subsidy. All they know is hike in price of fuel.

How can Nigeria be subsidising petrol even for our neighbouring African countries due to huge smuggling of the product.

With the removal of subsidy this smugglers will stop as the petrol is now sold at market price and not subsidised price.

We are mobilising to counter the NLC strike and I am sure this purported strike will create further disharmony amongst the NLC.

Many states won't join the strike and this will turn the NLC to mockery.

SUBSIDY IS GONE

And increase supply,

So this means that there won't be shortage and que for pms again and at the end there will surely be competition in the market due to new entrants of new suppliers which will force the market to be competitive and price will be going up and down. But i fear about the quality of petrol after then.

There will be.....a time will come when Mr corruption will divert the product to neighbouring countries to make more money

The subsidy has mutated into a monster on which corruption partly takes over.

We can no longer sustain the monster

As Comrade Stalin , whom you admire says, eggs must be broken to make an omelette.

We must crush the monster now, or the IMF would be directly running our econony and forcing us to pay for petrol

At their terms.

Good morning, Comrade.
We need to crush the monster, yes. But is this how to crush a monster? The answer is no. This monster will resurface wherever the funds the that will be saved from fuel subsidy removal go. That's the simple truth.
Nigerian govt needs to admit that corruption is killing us and we must face it and kill it, not running away from it.

The way people like you reason in this country amazes me, you talk so senseless without thinking first
drlateef:

The same Emefiele scenario is playing itself out again. They all agree subsidy must go immediately, just like we all agreed that cashless policy is good. But when Emefiele goofed by killing people with his implementation of cashless policy, NLC kept quiet. And even Obi and Atiku supported Emefiele. Now that subsidy is being removed again, NLC has drawn the daggers because Tinubu is the one implementing this now and the palliatives are not rolling out immediately. And again, Obi supporters are out attacking Tinubu. What a bunch of hypocrites do we have in this country? And they think they are on the side of truth? How can hypocrisy and truth live together?

Whoever joins this strike is playing into the hands of Obi and IPOB.

Read the piece below. That's what we're trying to tell you and your fellows. Many supported Jonathan's privatisation of power sector. I'm sure today that they would be among the people who would want FG to get back the power sector.

Nigeria needs more than subsidy removal to have a better economy.

We need to make more harder choices than just subsidy removal.

Finally, if we keep the subsidy as we want....we would be so broke in the coming years that IMF and China would refuse to give us loans and then partiton the country between them to recover their loans.

Sorry mate, but if you want your subsidy back, you can run for office and get it back.,and stop crying on Nairaland. Something we are now borrowing to pay for and grows per year.

You can call me an oppressor and IMF pony now.

Yeah, that is what they kept saying in 1993, 2005, and 2011, and here we are now borrowing to pay for the subsidy.

And if we got money from the corrupt politicans, at best we get N3-4 trillion a year. Meanwhile subsidy costs for this year exceed 7 trillion, and we owe NNPC Ltd 2.3 trillion.

You can call me the running canine of the oppressors now.
Re: NNPC: Subsidy Removal To Reduce Petrol Consumption By 30% by nairalanda1(m): 3:01pm On Jun 04, 2023
Reposting this old comment of mine here as to why I support the bourgeoise, while the marxist lenninist crowd bashes me...

On a more serious note, I understand y'all.

nairalanda1:
On why I am opposed to subsidy.

To begin with, I am not opposed to subsidy in my heart of hearts. I think that government should subsidse fuel for the majority of Nigerians because fuel is the thing we run our economy on. I think that we should also subsidise kerosene, diesel and company. (Not jet fuel...if you are rich enough to fly...pay for the darn thing.).

The problem I have with subsidy is.....where do we get the money to pay for subsidy.

To see why...let me point out something.

In 2011 December...oil prices were around N65 at the pump, and N99 landing cost. That's a cost of N34 at least for subsidy.

If we kept fuel at N65 as some people advocate, by 2022 September, when landing cost was N502, we would have been paying N437 per liter. Because of price increases, we were paying the amount of N307

Now the landing cost is around N300-400 right now.

Meanwhile. subsidy cost some years ago was N2 trillion, last year it jumped to N10 trillion...because the invasion of Ukraine pushed up the price of crude and the cost of refining one liter of fuel, and this year we have spent N7 trillion already. And government owes NNPC N2.8 trillion naira.

And even if we fight corruption and smuggling, prices will still rise.

And now, thanks to the borrowing we have done induced by the oil shock since 2014, we spend 96% of our revenue servicing debt,..meaning subsides are now paid for by borrowing.

If we keep on doing this....we would get to a point where we would run out of money for anything, and IMF won't give us loan.

And we would end up like Sri Lanka....at the mercy of debtors. In a big mess, not being able to pay for anything, and with long queues everywhere.

Look, I know poor people are suffering. I don't like the thing that we have to force us to do. I am sick, and angry with all our leaders, I did not vote for or choose any of Buhari, Tinubu, or even the PDP leaders, I am angry with the way the leadership has messed us up, and I feel pissed that promises have been broken over and over again.

But the milk has been spilt, and the damage has been done. Abusing me, telling me to get out, calling me oppressor, asking rhetorical questions, or trying to make me look like a full does not change the fact that the subsidy is no longer sustainable....UNLESS we either pay heavy taxes, or oil goes up to $200 a barrel and stays there for the next 10 years.

So, even as you abuse me, know that I symphatise. I understand, and I wish things were better. But abusing me does not change facts. We cannot pay for the subsidy. If government reinstates subsidy, we would all be happy....until the bill comes in. And then we won't be in a happy state.

God help us. It is messed up. I don't know what else to say.

Good afternoon.
