Yeah, that is what they kept saying in 1993, 2005, and 2011, and here we are now borrowing to pay for the subsidy.

And if we got money from the corrupt politicans, at best we get N3-4 trillion a year. Meanwhile subsidy costs for this year exceed 7 trillion, and we owe NNPC Ltd 2.3 trillion.

You can call me the running canine of the oppressors now.

We owe NNPC money, really? I'm laughing hard here grin grin grin. Govt is twisting your brain, honestly speaking. Does the oil belong to NNPC or Nigerians? Oil or the money realise from its sales doesn't belong to NNPC. We're oil producing nation. We take care of our need first, then sell the rest.

You people should stop peddling this propaganda. In the video where he said he would immediately remove subsidy he went on to clarify HOW.

He clearly said that the first thing he would do would be to address the inflated daily consumption figure that NNPC is claiming of 70million litres that subsidy is paid for and would ensure same is slashed immediately by 50%! He also talked about modular refining and things like that. Watch the full video and be educated.

When provision was made till June in the budget what was the rush to make the announcement on subsidy removal especially as Dangote fuel is supposed to hit markets in July? Why did he not rush to announce the palliative measures first and put them in place before removing the subsidy?

That's the difference between Obi and BAT. One is thinking of the HOW because he has the people at heart the other one is not thinking of the pains the people would go through.

I will give you another example of the role of government. Let's look at the FX problem in the country. Few months back, dollar was rapidly increasing against the Naira until it almost got to N1000 then government sent security agents to the streets to tackle the black market dealers, arresting many of them and getting them to disclose where they get their dollars from. Within a week dollar fell from almost N900 to N700 and has since then remained around 750.

When government is serious about tackling the oil smugglers no stone will be left unturned in driving them underground instead of subjecting the people to more suffering with over 60% under the poverty line and record unemployment rate.

Don't mind nairalanders, they think they are helping Obi, even if it sells for 15k per litre, Obi can afford it,he is more concerned about the poor and most peeps here can't even boast of any tangible investment or even job.
Anyhow e be, Igbo man go find way dey collect sha

If not for the other products of Petroleum which are highly required in other countries.....petrol from Nigeria bis not in high demand internationally.
All going on is a cabal to neo impoverish Africa.
Think of it, Senegal jus founded petroleum and the incumbent leader is persecuting the major perceived opposition sending the most democratized W African nation into chaos......

That's the problem...
How to keep the people unemancipated

I still don't understand why it is so difficult to name those behind this subsidy scam and stealing.
What will happen if they name, shame and arrest them?
What exactly will happen?

The problem has nothing to do with nabbing those behind the subsidy scam and stealing.

The problem is the subsidy itself!

Let's look at it this way: Imagine a man instructs his daughter to go about topless and he determined to lock up any married man that takes a look at his daughter. What would you say the problem is- the married who stares or the fact that she is going around topless? Once she is covered, or even goes purdah style, no one married man will stare again.

Likewise, in respect of the subsidy scammers or thieves, the problem is the subsidy itself. It is the root of the problem. . Remove the subsidy, and these problems will largely disappear. For instance, the smuggling of petrol across the border has stopped. The customs, oil marketers, small oil smugglers that were beneficiaries are now out of business.

The subsidy has been the problem for long. It is only those who want the subsidy to continue that still want to blame scammers and thieves.

That's because they number in the hundreds of thousands.

It is not just big men, and big cabals. Thousands of nigerians steal from the subsidy every day.

Jailing them won't stop the stealing. New people would step into the rift. The way forward was to destroy the system by removing its basis. Subsidy
you mean like the large number of terrorist sponsors? Nonsense.
