HacheNoire:oga any firm controlling more than 50% of the products in an industry is said to be a monopoly. There are no absolute monopolies in the world but percentage of market shares is used to measure is used to measure the degree of monopoly in any industry in an economy. When few firms are the only players in an industry, they tend to form a cartel where they decide the price and quantity of their products to be made available. There’s actually monopoly in our cement industry. Dangote controls More than 60% of the market share. |

I saw this coming long time ago...same thing they did with cement during obasanjo's era....and chased away ibeto. As we speak cement is been sold at 4800 while in other African countries the same dangote cement costs less than 3000 naira. |

jmoore: Yeah, and I doubt the Chinese sell the fuel they produce from their refineries at a loss. Which is why the refineries can make enough profit to keep themselves running well. Nigeria, on the other hand, has been, since the 1970's, selling fuel from its refineries at a loss, and then paying a subsidy which barely covers the loss. Result...by 2011, we had lost refining capacity. Same thing happened in Venezuela. Venezuela had decent refining capacity, then the government started selling at a loss. Result, they lost refining capacity. The thing is, if you sell what you make at a loss, because subsidy, problems start. Nothing to do with government or whatever. |

renderme:I am still waiting for the time that most of us, Nigerians, would allow our brains to work effectively and stop being gullible to the deceit of the wicked and selfish politicians we have in this country. If Obasanjo had taken a right decision then to sell the refineries, according to you, how many of them did your family buy? Or are you not a Nigerian? Please we should stop deceiving ourselves, all these politicians have nothing for the common man. They sold Nigerian assets to themselves. They have gradually put the whole country and the citizens in their pockets and we are still following them blindly. Shame on all of us. |
