As of my knowledge cutoff in September 2021, Inter Milan, one of Italy's most successful football clubs, has not reached the UEFA Champions League final since the 2009-2010 season when they won the competition. However, I can provide information on how teams generally reach the final.

To reach the UEFA Champions League final, a team must navigate through several stages of the tournament. The journey typically starts with a group stage consisting of round-robin matches against other top European clubs. The group winners and runners-up advance to the knockout stage, where they face off in two-legged ties.

Throughout the knockout stage, teams compete in home and away matches, accumulating goals to determine the winner on aggregate. Successful teams progress through the round of 16, quarterfinals, and semifinals.

To ultimately reach the final, a team must overcome formidable opponents, showcase exceptional skills, tactical acumen, teamwork, and perhaps a bit of luck. Reaching the final of the UEFA Champions League is a prestigious achievement, reserved for the best teams in European football.

According to the bookmakers, it is very likely indeed. You can get 7:2 against Inter Milan winning the trophy. But of course such things count for little on the night.

But the reason Man City are favoured is not too hard to see. In the knockout stages there were perceived to be four “power teams” who looked capable of winning it all. Man City, Real Madrid, Bayern Munich and Napoli. Three of the four ended up in one half of the draw, and Man City prevailed. Napoli suffered by a surprising upset by Milan in the quarter finals. Inter Milan were not considered a serious threat to win it all, having finished second and their group and lost both home and away to Bayern (2–0 both times).

Inter are by no means a poor side, but they finished 3rd in Serie A, which had not enjoyed much UCL success in recent years (and might not have done this year, but for all the Italian teams falling on one side of the quarterfinal draw). On the other hand, Man City won the English Premier league with four games to spare, and crushed both Bayern Munich and Real Madrid en route to the final.

Anything can happen in 90 (or 120) minutes. But Man City are heavy favourites for a reason.

Inter must have scrutinised Manchester City in the FA Cup and the UCL Semis where they demolish defending Champs R Madrid comfortably. M City has weaknesses but there are only a few. They are a very formidable balanced side managed by a perfectionist coach in Pep Guardiola.

Inter, I believe would play aggressive soccer and hope to ruffle players like Haaland and others and hope for them to receive red cards in retaliation. If Inter can go hold on to a draw up till the 70th minute or so, M City would become desperate and this is where Inter can bring fresh legs to exploit MC when they start attacking desperately.

Inter must utilise their best players Lukaku and Martinez and leverage them to the fullest. These two can be match winners. Lukaku has the strength and resilience to create havoc to the M City defence.

Finally, Simon Inzaghi the coach of Inter knows he's got nothing to lose, as almost all the media has predicated an MC win to achieve their treble. Simon may opt for radical changes & risk to go for a win or lose big. The ball is round in soccer!!

I am no expert, but in a single game over 90 (or 120) minutes, any team has a chance.

Did Saudi Arabia have a chance to beat Argentina in the World Cup at Qatar? Most people beforehand said no, and yet they end up winning. Football is a funny game.

But just because it is possible doesn’t make it particularly probable. In the UK the bookmakers are offering nearly 4:1 against Inter winning the final. Part of that reflects betting patterns, but it also reflects the difference in quality between the two starting elevens.
