Image123: Actually, unless the Nairametric report is missing crucial info, Tinubu should NOT have “assented” to the bill… If the bill was actually passed back in July 2022, it can only be assented to WITHIN 30 days (Section 58(4) of the Constitution). Meanwhile, it’s unlikely this law will affect transmission since the states cannot regulate outside their borders… States already have generation authority, but the CRUCIAL difference is the generated power will no longer be ceded to the national grid. This new law might be a relatively immediate impact in states like here in Lagos… But it does NOT address the underlying economic (un)viability issues and thus unlikely to make much difference in the immediate future. > |

Dicado:That directive can't be specified in the act, because different business contracts has different terms, this is deregularization, decentralization era, businesses are run by private entities, to optimize service and value. State governors should know what's best for their people, the people should ensure they vote in governors who wish the best for them. We have been screaming true federalism, state powers, it's here. A state governor and it's parliament has responsibility for the wellbeing of their state, stop looking to the president, look to your governors and house of assemblies to streamline this bills to suite your state's needs. |

Image123: Which speed and progress are u referring to? Pls show it to me. If the bill didn't originate from him, then why the noise? Is he the first president in Nigeria to sign a bill? If he isn't the first to sign a bill, what then is the celebration about? If he doesn't sign the bill, it will not remain dead. Aren't u aware that if a bill isn't signed, the legislature can on their own pass it into law with a two third majority? What is special about the head of executive signing a bill? If the bill he signed is exciting, did it originate from him? Is he the author of the bill? |

Patriotsleague: First, there’s NOTHING like “true” federalism (it’s just another cliche we love in Nigeria)… EVERY federation (US, Germany, India, Switzerland, Canada, UAE, Russia, Belgium, etc.) has its own PECULIAR system. Nonetheless, states CANNOT regulate across their own borders… Lagos State cannot make laws for Ogun State - whether in electricity, Agberoism, or anything else. Accordingly, states are unlikely to dabble in transmission… Rather, as a PRACTICAL matter, they’re more likely to restrict themselves to generation and distribution. > |

bigdammyj: MB didn't sign it to law, he left it for PBT to sign to boost his image. So, you can see it's already serving it's purpose. All the same, I congratulate Nigerians for getting this laudable law. If properly harnessed, we may see the end of blackout in Nigeria very soon. |

nlfpmod: This law seems to put an end to Nigeria's power problem theoretically, the implementation is what I'm looking forward to now. Every sector in this country is been prevented from growing due to vested interest of a few people, again the law should have criminalize estimated bills to make it more efficient. 2 Likes |

What the new act means is you as a person can generate power at a specific rate and sell to your street. You don't need to wait for anybody. Your street can gather their resources together and establish a power plant that serves their community. 2 Likes |
