LikeAking: The naira rate in the forex market is currently FIXED BY LAW by the Federal Government through CBN. The economy of Nigeria will NEVER be competitively productive until the naira is floated, that is, allowed to find it's own price in a free market. Most people don't know it, but a weaker naira is better for Nigeria. If you float the naira and it goes to say, ₦3000/1$, assets in Nigeria will become cheaper and attract buyers from abroad. Healthcare companies will set up in Nigeria because it's cheap and likely to have a high profitability. In a floating system, they can take their profits back to their country anytime they want because forex will be readily available no matter what, basically the black market will become the official market and banks will participate. The Federal Government should also withdraw from ownership or regulation of Universities and associated hospitals. The Federal Ministry of Education and Federal Ministry of Health should be abolished. All Federal Universities and Federal Medical Centers should be handed over to States and laws should be promulgated prohibiting ANY government from dictating prices of ANYTHING in Nigeria. The only major structural problem then will be OWNERSHIP of assets like land. Today if a healthcare company invests and "buys" land in Nigeria and builds a hospital, the current law says they really don't OWN the land and the physical hospital. The Governor of the State can take it at any time. This is a basic problem called INSECURE PROPERTY RIGHTS. So Nigeria also needs to allow for individual property ownership rights, the Land Use Act should be abolished and the government should dedicate itself to PROTECTION of property rights, so investors feel safe. Nigerians, PLEASE go and familiarize yourselves with modern economic theory and practice. It's now a matter of life and death, a truly existential matter. Sad thing is, President Tinubu is likely to replace the fuel subsidy with agriculture subsidies. Read his inauguration speech, he said he will bring back Agric Commodity Boards that were abolished in 1986. Imagine ALL the problems in the fuel sector now appearing in the agricultural sector. Think about famine, think about food scarcity replacing fuel scarcity. This is a real and present policy risk. Nigeria can't continue with foolish socialist policies when there are KNOWN solutions to ALL the problems facing the country. The general solution is LESS GOVERNMENT, anytime you hear anyone tell you government will solve a problem, know they're lying. Government is the problem, everywhere in the world. Good Luck to Nigeria. 2 Likes |

Biletaste:Many of you just type in ignorance. This man record in the healthcare and education systems of Ondo state is still the very best in the history of the state. He established University of Medical sciences the first of its kinds in West Africa atleast and the university just churned out its first doctors. It's not Everytime you critize people, proper research and some level of objectivity is important. 4 Likes 1 Share |

Akwamkpuruamu:All of them moved to France because majority of Nigerian doctors are in the UK and US and their incompetence will show up on them. Atiku as VP went abroad to bandage his hands that he injured. Small scratch wey chemist shop will fix for N800, he go abroad. One of my clients, after spending time in Nigerian hospitals decided to go to the US for treatment only for the doctors there to prescribe medication for him that cost less than 1k in Lagos. It is in our best interest that the doctors travel out for proper training. Coco Samba is a local product. If it came from the US, na $500 for one bottle and here it is very cheap and they said it is very effective. |

MrEgghead: I understand your comment. In the general state of things in Nigeria, his efforts have amounted to basically nothing. Nigeria needs whole body reform. Local or State efforts can't make a difference. Government in general is the problem but the biggest of them all is the Federal Government. I don't know how it can be done but the FGN has to be drastically disempowered and reduced. Anyone who's not advocating for that is simply not helping anyone, they're doing NOTHING. Good Luck to Nigeria. |

Those developed nations couldn't even train enough medical personnels for their own use. But they're ever ready to lure highly subsidised Nigerian trained medical personnels away with wages. They made education forbidden for their youth due high tuition fees. Talking of reaping where they did not sow. It's highly unfair to Nigeria and Nigerians. 1 Like |

Not only brain drain. High cost pf obtaining medical treatment in public and private hospitals will drive Nigerians towards drinking sell procured concoctions. A single Appendicitis operation is now over N300k. |

nairalanda1: Cut govt excessive & unnecessary spendings The amount of money we wasted on administration is too much Let the government be sincere at all level, award 1bn for a project that truly cost 1bn and not award 10bn for a project that can be done perfectly with 500m naira We have enough to sustain us in this country if properly managed |

maasoap: My father had to fight corrupt people as a chairman of landlord association. People who wanted to embezzle funds for the electric poles fought him. He stood is ground. Because of him many other wealthy men were willing to fund projects because they were sure it would be used rightly and as agreed. This people im question fighting him are Yoruba people. Some said he should go back to his state. All because he was doing the right thing but they had to obey the chairman. His regime after then has been the best. My father would be the best candidate for me. He proved himself in small position. However your father I am sure is a thief. He passed the genetics to his son. And his son loves thieves same way he loves his father. |
