He very will. Along with the doctors and teachers which require university degrees, UK is suffering from a deficiency in handy people and even farm workers.

The Indians and Pakistani will quickly fill up those handy and farm work roles. grin

It will be an option, not compulsory.

Once taken, repayment is a must.

It's being done in the U.S.

However, the problem here is that school fees are about to get jacked up, and most students will have no choice but to take it.
I bet you, over 75% of students will apply for the loan.
In places like US, repayment is easier because of availability of jobs after graduation, etc.

It's actually being filled by immigrants from Europe, especially non-EU, and from Nepal, Kazakhstan and South Africa.

Indians and Pakistanis immigrants tend to go to school where they learn to become UK prime minister.

Bill before they become law must pass through the appropriate legislative chambers. That is where the budget is evaluated and the cost is looked into.
The same way National Assembly is funded is how it would be funded.
Since it is federal student loan, the money would come from the federal government. It is a now the law of the land. It must be funded. Whether from increasing tax or borrowing, that is issue for another topic.

Therefore the office budget and statistics must be involved
Paying back with interest is the student’s responsibility since it’s a loan, it is not a gift and nobody is forcing anybody to accept it.

It seems u don't understand the questions I asked.

1. So what is the source of the funding?

2.what is the guarantee of repayment of the loans?

3. The bill emanated from the national assembly? When did the legislature finish work on this bill?

4. So when did the office of budget do their homework with regards the bill? Which homework?

5. What does student loan concern office of statistics?

Nepal, SA, etc... That's insightful.
Indeed, Indians and Pakistanis tend to gravitate towards the STEM fields and the corporate world OR go into entrepreneurship.

Tinubu keeps signing whatever Gbaja ask him to sign without detailed plans of execution.

I giv it to tinubu for d subsidy thing although it could hav been handled better
Do you know it was Gbaja that sponsored the bill?, e get why. Buhari could not be borrowing for subsidy and infrastructure, yet grant students loan, where is the money?. It's a good thing the bill was accelerated at the tail-end of buhari's govt so that it could kick-start early with the new govt.

I JUST HOPE THIS IS DONE WITH TRANSPARENCY AND FAVORITISM AND TRIBALISM WONT HINDER THIS GOOD POLICY.....COS THIS IS NIGERIA AND I KNOW HOW THINGS RE DONE.

BUT SHOULDNT WE BE LOOKING AT REDUCING UNEMPLOYMENT TO THE BEAREST MINIMUM BEFORE WE TALK ABOUT THIS STUDENT LOAN

WELL THIS IS JUST MY SUGGESTION
Re: President Tinubu Signs Student Loan Bill Into Law (Pictures) by roscoman: 9:35pm On Jun 12, 2023
Students Loans had been existing in many African countries including South Africa. The idea is that Government with appropriate some amount of money into the scheme where an indegent students can takes loan to finance his education. After graduation and he secured a jobs either with Government, multi nationals or private firms he would be paying back the loan. It is interest free loan but the beneficiary has to pay back. The mindset of taking the loan and don't want to pay back should be jettisoned because you can't run away it is a deducted at source by your employers and pay directly to Government coffers.

It is a welcome development I think this will help so many people that couldn't attained/ access tertiary education or dropped out. With this educational loans it has solved the problem once and for all.

In early 2000 I was opportune to had work with an experimental Marketing Communication company fully owned by some South Africans. One of our bosses then was a son of a South African Retired solider. He said he used the students loans to study in the university. So when he was employed by the experiential Marketing Communication company headquarters in South Africa he was transfered to Nigeria to Head Nigeria office as the General Managers.

On monthly basis, he writes letter via an email to the company HQ because that is where the salary is been paid to his designated bank. He usually instructed the bank based in SA to pay student loans board in SA certain amount of money as a repayment of the loan granted him while he was schooling in SA.

Nigeria has the resources and if properly managed it would reduce school dropped out because of lack of funds to go to school.

The same way subsidy was funded
The same way the National Assembly is funded

Loans have no guarantee for repayment. That is why there is a word like default in loan agreement

There is a process of bill becoming law. Not all bill will become law. The ones that become law were deliberately considered and voted.

The office of budget and statistics has the responsibility to work on cost of any bill before it is signed.

The relationship between federal student loan and office of budget and statistics is centered on feasibility of funding as the fund comes from the federal government.

I am not a Tinubu supporter but he is just replicating what works in civilized countries.

In the UK, it used to be free money a.k.a student grants until the Govt changed it to student loans.

Tinubu and Gbajabiamila both studied in America where they also have student loans meaning that coming from a poor family is no reason to drop out of or not pursue university education to better your life as their responsible Governments know that with a University education, your life chances and future job prospects are bettered leading to increased Tax revenue for the Government. (A win win situation).

In the UK model, you get a student loan for your 3 year Uni study and the loan covers both feeding/ maintenance and the uni tuition fees. You don't have to pay back the loan until you start earning above a pre-set minimum salary and the interest rate on the loans are very low. Before you know it you will have repaid it all to the Government owned Students Loan company without any financial stress.

In the UK, for some courses e.g ACCA (for which you can also get a students loan) , you don't necessarily need to have any academic qualifications 'cos you can start the course going in via the Mature Student Entry Route (MSER) as long as you are over the age of 21 but once you start the course, you must pass some of the lower level exams within a pre-set period before further progression in the course is permitted.

Also, if you are given a student loan for a 3 year degree in the UK and you fail the exams at the end of year one or year 2, your student loan will be suspended whilst you are repeating the year and will not be re-instated until you pass the repeat year with your own money.

All Nigerian students should take advantage of this students loan offer even if their parents can afford to sponsor them as this will relieve the financial pressure on their parents.

The law will still stand even if the tribunal dethrones Tinubu as the bill has now been signed into Law.

Calling all serious minded students who needed a lifeline to pay their Tuition fees whilst at Uni.

This is your chance to at least benefit something from Nigeria.

Well nice one from jagaban. He's trying to package himself in the eyes of Nigerians. The Presidential election tribunal is still in court and by so doing signing of crucial bills will make many Nigerians feel ok with his govt and forget if the election was rugged or not.
What the youths actually need is more of jobs than students loan. Sooner or later subsidy removal will be declared on the tertiary institutions and there won't be subsidization of school fees in our Federal institutions since students can afford to take a loan to pay for the school fees.

Also, this loan will also tie you up as if you have already signed a bond with the govt. You can't even leave the country without offsetting your loan because your information will be shared across board.

Lastly, not the average targeted youths will benefit from this loan due to our corrupt way of life. You will start seeing politicians submitting names on behalf of tertiary institutions and Ministry of Education.

I see people happy about this bill. For your information just know that there is going to be a hike in tuition and indirectly what this means is that those thieves who enjoyed free education want you to pay heavily to have the same.

What is the correlation with this and student fees?

If the loan is compulsory for everybody now, it’s another thing. But why should there increase fees for a loan that is optional?

Do you guys even think before talking?

sillybu aka the tribalist islamics renowned criminal and deflector.

This bill is a wash. There is nothing wrong in student loan, but don't put the carriage in front of the horse. He just likes to fraudulently deceive Nigerians. He could have paid, but because he has been watching cnn talk about student loan recently, the fraudulent criminal decided to use the format to deceive Nigerians, without doing more research and how impactful it will be.

Is school where you don't pay teachers, where the environment is not conducive, where there is hunger, better than agriculture, lower prices, etc.

The fraudulent criminal is also highly naive. No be small thing. The fake lagos builder is being exposed in all manners of leadership.
