Re: EPL Chatroom - All Discussions by OasisX: 8:13pm On Jun 12, 2023
To qualify for the Student loan, Applicant income of Family income must be less than 500,000 per annum.

Two guarantors- Civil servants not less than level 12, A Lawyer with at least 10 years post call, a Judicial officer or Justice of Peace.

Repayment:

Beneficiaries must commence repayment 2 years after NYSC.

10% of Salaries when you’re employed, direct debit from employer.

If you’re self employed, 10% of profit.

• How will the self employed pay. Is it going to be deducted like NIRSAL loans or bank loans?

✓ There would be establishment of Nigeria Education Fund which will be domicile of student loan from start to finish.

• Will the person will spend all his life repaying debt?

✓ It is interest free..it is not compulsory you take it, their parents can pay their feeds if they have it.

I’ll rather government invest money in Education than Invest in PMS consumption.

A society that invest in its Human Resources can never go wrong.

Higher institutions will now be able to recalibrate their entire structure to be able to compete globally.

What this bill is doing is just substituting Education Subsidy with Student loan.

It’s very obvious we can't continue with the psuedo socialist government with our bloated population and dilapidated infrastructures .

But the bill doesn't plan to invest unless I missed it.
So again higher education for a poor population with barely any jobs available

It is.

By making sure, every Nigerian irrespective of their social standing have an opportunity to get “Quality” education.

The key word here being Quality education, not the quasi nonsense being taught in federal universities nowadays.

For me this is just a nice talking point but the scaling is impossible because you'll just add more to what the poor are passing through.

For now, student loans are not close to being a priority.

You still don’t get it.

There is already a subsidy on education, the government has always been paying some sort of “loan” for your education at the federal and state level.

They are just transferring this loan for you to pay back, it’s a capitalist move.

One area I’m not very sure in the bill though is the CGPA part, the loan will be tied to your performance in school. So if you perform well in year 1 and 2 but your grade plummet in year 3 will the government stop paying?

So what then happen to the previous year payment?

I’m still seeking clarification on that sha

Lmao there's no subsidy on education because we are not getting any thing premium in education.
We are paying for the exact education we get.

Lmao.

What is the thing that is being subsidised?

Lmao, you are not serious.

Unilag school fees is around 30,000 Naira per semester.

Nigeria trained doctor’s are highly south after overseas, if the subsidised education they receive in nigeria is not premium, nobody will want them.

If you want to critique a government policy, please criticize on substantive matter not on a ridiculous notion.

It makes you look like you don’t know what you are saying.

Those who cant accept pain of defeat (rigging) in elections, don't deserve joy of victory.

- Tinubu 2023

I'm sure you meant to say RIGGING.
Because I've asked everyone here if they believe the 8.7 million votes accorded to tinubu to be true and accurate. If you agree that that number is not accurate, then you're accepting that the election was deeply flawed and as such, the result illegitimate. One can't win a competition where all agreed there was massive cheating and no way to determine the actual winner.

Lmao please let's not get into this argument again about education being subsidised.
What we get compared to what people in saner climes get is light and darkness.

Unilag school fees is 30,000 per semester?
Should we do this for all the courses in Unilag?
Or you picked the lowest paid course?

We don't have subsidised education in our universities.
We don't have jobs as I speak with you.
So when you have people take student loans, what are they graduating into for this repayment?

The idea is nice but it is not important at this point.

Nigerian tertiary education is subsidized enough. Which one be student loan again.

They should limit it to STEM courses please. We have enough Masscom graduates already

What is the education compared to what isn't subsidised?
Should I talk about the standard of living that is horrible in federal universities.
Should I remind us of the strikes?

Again what is the thing that is subsidised?

No, it's not.

Tertiary Education is already been heavily subsidised. What are the loans suppose to achieve?

Unless Tinubu has the intention to stop tertiary education subsidy.

If we are to compare...the education in Nigeria should command at least 150k-200k in school fees like it is in State Universities

Private schools like Madonna, Bigham is not much of an upgrade for the million naira they're paying in school fees

It's either a cheap publicity stunt (which 17 year old knows a 12 year plus civil servant that will act as guarantor, on top that for a paltry sum that's not worth the effort)

Or. . .

It's a precursor to raising fees materially which is a step in the right direction

Apple and oranges.

Your argument has no head or tail, I don’t even understand what you are talking about.

Are you disputing that Education in federal and state university in Nigeria is subsidised or what?

Are you disagreeing and disputing with reality and fact or what?

The rest of your statements lacks meaning, they look more like meaningless rant to me.

These folks seem to have given up on better Nigeria. In their silly, hopeless minds, Nigeria won't be great again.

How on earth a sensible person would be envisaging failure for himself or relatives after 4yrs in school?

You are predicting joblessness after graduation cos in your myopic mind, Nigeria won't ever prosper....? SMHV.

Attached is school fees of a kindagarten pupil, yet our tertiary Institutions ain't subsidised.
