Where was ASUU when the bill was being debated? Wonderful how we insist on making sure the nation stands still. |

drizslim: It's unfortunate everyone now has the space to comment unintelligent talks all in the name of freedom of speech. ASUU fought that schools should be funded adequately and if that is done, there wouldn't be issues of strike and the rest. You all relegated them and abused them. Now, tuition fees will be very high. Can the average downtrodden and rank and file of this nation afford #300,000 and above school fees?! What exactly do you want ASUU to do? The poor will suffer this development even though it's a very welcomed development to arrest incessant strike. Just know that when school fees skyrocket, don't blame ASUU. Truly, no where Education is free and cheap technically 2 Likes |

Hmmm the introduction of this student loan means that tuition and accommodation fees will be increased by 100% or more. |

Islie: There is work everywhere. Loads of openings due to japa etc. What is lacking is " plug and play" job candidates. Employers are less interested in certificates than they are in the ability of the job candidate to deliver value ASAP. I encourage all job seekers to spend their holidays ready to take up unpaid or minimally paid internships to pay it forward. 1 Like |

Agbadocassava:then that bill is unnecessary. A scam like subsidy waiting to happen. Subsiding education for the rich that can afford it is not something a dying nation needs at this time. 1 Like |

It is a good initiative. Yes, it shows a disparity between the rich and the poor. Truthfully, majority of Nigerians earn less than 500,000 naira per annum. That is a monthly salary 40,000. It will give advantage to students who have to take odd jobs to fund their education, enabling them to focus more in school. After this, I look forward to the Government remodeling our curriculum. So that our schools can become a problem-solving curriculum. This will enable graduates be integrated directly into the economy after graduating 2 Likes 1 Share |

Most Nigerians are always so ungrateful especially we Christians, instead of ASUU n ASUP to be grateful to govt they are busy complaining as usual and that's one thing no govt likes . When you praise the govt they will do more , let's give this new govt a chance at least. |

Is Nigeria the first to grant loan to indigent students? I believe in other climate something like this is being practiced. Let's encourage good idea and manage the challenges encounter afterwards. |

Winning123: How many get people for civil service? Even if they had, what is the probability that those people will stand as guarantors? The bill has to be amended to tie to the parents or guardians and not a civil servant. Nobody stands as a guarantor for anyone these days. 3 Likes 1 Share |

ivolt: It also means the poor getting poorer cos it will means families who doesn't earn more than 500k annually will be enmeshed in more debts and not sure when they can pay back except government is saying that they will be serious about the loan recovery. |

I don't think it's wise to give students loan when there are no jobs available when they graduate. You just put them under unnecessary pressure and probably drive them into depression. The UK , US, Canada that give their student loans also have "grants, scholarships" available to their citizens before even the loans. The FG should make tertiary institutions cheap or free the way it is in Syria, Iraq, Libya, Saudi Arabia. UAE, Oman, Jordan; and resève those loans for recent graduates finding it hard to get jobs. Is it the FG cannot do anything free for its people. What exactly do we benefit from bring among the top producers of crude oil. |
