Hi everyone I am new to this post but came across while researching.

I received a visa denial from IRCC yesterday morning. Application was submitted May 28th and biometrics was given 8th of June and rejection received 13th of June.

The reasons cited were
i) significant family ties in canada (my sister and her husband and kids are permanent residents in canada for 2 years. However the rest of my family is here in Nigeria. I submitted her bank statements and reference letter from work as I will be staying with her. She owns her own home and has a very good income. I will also be going without my husband and 14 months old son which I believe are ties to Nigeria. Including my brothers and parents (my mum has a Canadian TRV)

ii) your assets and financial situation are insufficient to support the stated purpose of travel. (This i couldn’t understand as my bank statement submitted has a closing balance of a little 29 million Naira with school fees for the first session fully paid. My course is a one year course in digital health as I am an healthcare worker. I also submitted by husbands bank statements and reference letters from work for both of us.

I used an IRCC registered agent who is also quite upset at the visa application result and is advising we request a judicial review. I will really appreciate your advice as I am quite confused. I have ordered my GCMS notes as of this morning. But would really appreciate any insights of anyone has experience this and how they overturned it. Thank you.

So sorry for the refusal.

Firstly, who is the sponsor of the application, you said you added your sister's statement, and also added yours and your hubbys'. What was your sister's and husband's statement for since the N29mm you have in your account was enough?
Secondly, were there any lump sums in your account and were the sources of funds duly explained?

sorry about the denial. But often time, one thing I notice is that, you have enough money in the account doesn't mean you'll be given visa. How did the money come in? Did you submit proof of business ownership or employment? What are the inflows and outflows of the account? What is the net balance of the account for the past 4-6 months that you submitted. For example, in the past 4 months, you have debit 2m, credit 16m net = 14 credit and closing balance let's say 28m. Now scenario 2, debit 5m, credit 4m net -(1m) closing balance 30m. Can you see the difference. So, most times it's not what is in the account that matters but how much expenses have you incurred during the account period in question.

Refire, and I wish you the best. Sometimes too, these VOs dey dey on colos. Lol. God abeg o

Please I need your advice on this
I was denied a US visa this week and I already gained admission to a college in Canada before I even gained admission to the one in US, will getting a Canadian student visa be hard for me or not.
And also I would really appreciate it if someone can put me through the process because I already wasted 2 years since I finished secondary School waiting for US student visa. Thanks

Thank you so much for responding. I am sponsoring my application. We added my sisters statement only as support and clearly stated that in the application.I also included a letter of support from her. There was no lump sum at all as the account is majorly a savings account so savings go on but just a little withdrawals nothing over 500k went in it came out in the period.

The new portal is easier to use but if your file size is above 2mb go with the old portal. I started with the old portal and later abandoned it for the new portal. But the problem had with it was my file size, I had to compress my file to the barest minimum before it got to 1.94mb or so.

Have you gotten a decision since you used the new portal?

If yes, when did you apply and when you got a feedback? Please share your timeline
Re: Canadian Student Visa Thread Part 22 by AdesheO: 3:45pm On Jun 14, 2023
Thank you so much for responding. There were no lump sum in and out as this was a long term savings account. There was no inflow amount or outflow over 500k except in December when I made a deposit of 4m into the account and this was bonus from hubby’s office. We submitted proof of employment for myself and husband as well as payslips for us both. The net balance is about 29 million. Thank you again

Your US visa denial doesn't affect your Canadian visa application.

You did the right thing in the application, if you are reapplying, do not add your sister's statement, the POF you have is more than enough for the COL after paying your tuition.

I will align with the advice of your agent that you explore the Judicial review process because applications like yours that are rejected could be to the bias of the VO, I am sure if your profile was that of an Indian, they would have approved the application in a week.

Once you see the GCMS notes, you can take a decision whether to reapply or pursue JR.

I am very grateful for your time. I will await the GCMS notes and follow your guidance as I do not know what can be done other than what was done. I also did some research and case law on similar cases the judges had ruled that ties in canada should not be used as a negative factor in visa refusal. I also saw that the JR takes time and my course resumption is September. Are there any demerits to just doing another application and foregoing the JR. I want to be sure I am doing the best thing.

It depends on you really, if you have the resources.

1. Going for JR will cost about CAD5000, and takes an indeterminate time, so you might have to defer your programme while you wait for the outcome of the JR. Though if you get a good lawyer they can push the case quickly and can be flexible in payment.
2. Applying again will let you put up an application that answers the issues raised in the first application and possibly get a decision before you resume in September.
