It was obvious that it was just a matter time for machines to takeover jobs meant for humans. Now the war between machines and human stares us in the face. I just pity for an unskilled person. Just imagine that ARTIFICIAL INTELLIGENCE is fast emerging. What else can i say, just learn a skill today, thank me later.

Remember the toll gate at the airport those days when we still used coins. Abroad it works, you don't need humans, but here in naija, you will see a couple of people standing there, to operate it for you. The engine will be open.
It is called "chooking" they will chook the machine, poke it so it does not work, then they can make money by selling tickets to you.
Those days in our factory, workers will chook a perfectly working machine so it breaks down, then they can go sleep claiming machine don spoil.
Bottomline, bring any sophisticated tech, Africans will poke, chook it. You will then have to go "manual".

It will have something to do with it (AI) only if the machines have gone through a learning process (training) and with the use of algorithms.

You're a big fool for posting such, have you asked yourself if Africa is ready for mechanized farming? Have the government put things in place for the families or homes of ordinary people who this technologies will replace? Will they be paid off to start up something meaningful with their lives after years of services? I don't want to blame the tea pickers outrightly, however what they did was wrong and I feel this is where the government is supposed to come in.

The machines are performing the jobs faster, cheaper and maybe better than human pickers and the primary purpose of every business is to make profit.

The government should start working on how to make their citizens focus and train on other fields of endeavor other than manual labour fields, this will be a gradual process because most manual labor jobs might be taken over by machines in the future.

If not, the gap between the rich and poor might further widen because of less jobs for the poor and very high profit for the rich using machines that never fall sick, get tired or go on leave working round the clock as long as they are maintained properly without salary, benefits, pension and so on.

The cost of maintenance can still force the industries to maintain the cheap labor

If machine/robot is malfunction and it grabs that's the end.

If any wire goes wrong from the settings you're Doom.

Robot can destroy millions worth of goods if malfunction

Despite it's a nice development it's not possible to take away the jobs of 90% in Nigeria.

The story is another example of cutting edge technologies like machines, A.I, robots replacing human labor

I recently developed an Natural Language Processing based classifier that automatically categorise Nairaland news articles into the correct categories, the dataset used for the task can also be used to create an A.I model that will perform all moderators work and thereby removing the need for them

Are these not the same tea plantations that we saw in a recent BBC Africa Eye documentary that alsexual abuse and exploitation of female tea pickers occur. Now technology has come that will get rid of those abuses, they are protesting.

I didn't miss the point. When you say machines don't get sick and then say if they are maintained properly, it sounds contradictory because it is the sickness and tiredness that leads to the maintenance.
