Makamatic:1.) Trump. First US President to be indicted for any crime. Just the trial alone should have it's own thread. The fact that a judge he appointed who has been slapped down by a conservative appeals court is going to be presiding over the case. What type of ruling will she make. Will she push the trial till after the election/primaries? Will the prosecutors ask to have her recused? And then there are so many interesting derivates from that. He is running for office. How do the other candidates handle it. Will they have to pledge to support him even if he is convicted. What does that say about the party? There seems to be a concerted plan to try to stop him this time around. You can already see it from BIll Barr to even his most recent interview with Brett Baeir. How do his supporters view that. And on and on. 2.) It's an interesting time for the Supreme Court. A couple of blockbuster decisions coming up. Affirmative action, one. Also they just upheld race-conscious voting protections. Meaning that Republicans will already lose seats, some say enough that next year they wouldn't have a majority. And that opens the question did the Supreme Court give the Republicans a majority in the House this year by initially allowing the new Alabama redistricting plan that gave Republicans these seats. It's an interesting time for US politics. It has been since Trump took office. Esp. the intersection of "Norms" vs laws and how we as a country codify the norms we've become accustomed to. One being what should be the guardrails between the DOJ and the President. Because as some have intimated (Trump and Desantis) they believe the DOJ should be an arm of the President. Sort of how it looks like in Nigeria. 1 Like |

---@Basilico---Hunter Biden is finally going to be charged--- Hunter Biden to Plead Guilty on Misdemeanor Tax Charges Under a deal with the Justice Department, the president’s son agreed to probation for filing his taxes late, and he can avoid a charge that he lied about his drug use when he purchased a handgun. Mr. Biden is expected to appear in federal court in Delaware in the coming days to be arraigned on the misdemeanor tax charges and plead guilty. The Justice Department investigation continued after President Biden took office, under the oversight of the U.S. attorney for Delaware, David C. Weiss, a Trump appointee who was kept on to allow him to finish the inquiry. And despite federal investigators casting their nets wide — including examining Mr. Biden’s work for Burisma and his business dealings with an energy tycoon in China — the investigation ultimately narrowed to the two separate issues. https://www.nytimes.com/2023/06/20/us/politics/hunter-biden-plea-deal.html 3 Likes 1 Share |

basilico: Honestly, what posts of yours I read I feel embarrassed and sad for you. Embarrassed that you post stuff that are so easily fact checked and sad that whatever education you received left you without any critical thinking skills, but maybe that is byproduct of a mental illness. But I qualify that at times by the fact that you live in Nigeria and maybe you think some of the stuff you uncritically believe is possible in the US as it is in Nigeria. It's not. Amongst others as I mentioned above, It's your lack of understanding of the decentralized nature of elections in the US. Fox News has just paid the biggest settlement in News Media history for their lies about the election and yet here you still are. Somehow living in Nigeria you know better than every US authority, Fed. Government, State Government and the Fed. and State US courts. 2 Likes 1 Share |

Will make him a martyr Democrats setting a precedent where once out of the big office , the dogs are let loose on you Remember they changed rules on judicial nominations to a simple majority in order to let Obama nominees go through. Trump came in and used the same rule to appoint conservative judges, who eventually killed Roe vs Wade. |

budaatum: Point is, Black was a felon Not allowed to own an "assault" gun. In the declaration forms If you are a drug addict like Hunter you should not own a gun. He lied that he was drug free .To make it worse his girlfriend, his late brother's wife threw the gun into a dumpster. Guy was screwing his late brother's wife.Who does that? Don't forget that $$$ from China found its way into her bank account for no work done. Conrad Black lied in the form application, got 46 months for lying on the form. |

Re: American Politics Thread - 2024 Elections — Biden’s Presidency! by basilico: 10:47am On Jun 21, 2023 |
budaatum: Hunter Biden should not have been allowed to own a gun, that he carelessly handled. He lied in his application. Conrad Black lied in his application to own a firearm. Probation aside, Conrad was not allowed to gun. Hunter was also not allowed to own a gun. They both lied Hunter has been informed that in part of his sweetheart deal he should never own a gun. Takes a really thick skinned mind to not see the two tier justice system in full mode |

basilico: No, basilico, you can't just close your eyes to facts and evidence and "Probation aside". When you disregard established verifiable pertinent facts and evidence like that, serious people will disregard you and say you don't know how to use your brain and decide that further conversation with you is time wasting and pointless. |

Republicans really do the "programming their voters" well. I'm sure some Republican operative came up with the talking point "sweetheart deal" for Hunter Biden. All the Republican politicians used it and propagated it so much so even people in Nigeria are repeating it. It's odd, Republicans will argue if a Dem investigated a Dem and even argue when a hand picked Trump prosecutor investigates a Dem. But if anything it seems the Prosecutor more aggressively charged Biden in comparison with anyone else. Basing this opinion by reading and listening to ex-DOJ and FBI investigators. The Tax Charges- Generally when unpaid taxes and their subsequent penalties are paid, the IRS does not usually criminally charge anyone. Hunter paid his unpaid taxes and penalties. Here they charged him criminally with 2 misdemeanors for ~200,000 in unpaid taxes for 2017 and 2018. For example we have Roger Stone (Trump's dirty trickster), who had around 2 million in unpaid taxes that were about a decade old. In that case the DOJ, didn't charge him criminally, in fact they went the civil route to collect the taxes. Why the difference in the 2 cases? https://news.bloombergtax.com/daily-tax-report/roger-stone-wife-agree-to-2-million-settlement-in-tax-case The Gun Charges- Generally the government doesn't charge people for lying during a gun purchase IF the gun wasn't used in the commission of a Felony esp. if alcohol or drugs were involved. Here they charged him and put him in a pretrial diversion program. Seems more aggressive than normal. Again, I don't know the full context of his situation, but both charges seem more aggressive than normal. It seems it's the Republicans actually weaponizing government. 1 Like |

basilico: That's not the gritty gritty of anything and you know it isn't. They were both not allowed to own guns, basilico. Both were disallowed. Both then committed crimes of lying on federal paper. One copped a deal having had no priors. The other went to jail because he was on parole. I did ask you to show me you understand what parole is but you played ostrich so you wouldn't see it sitting on your mind which is what buda intends to train myself to play with you henceforth.
