The Girl That Called Me 'A Typical Nigerian' by Nobody: 1:05am On Jun 21, 2023 |
So a few years back while living in a rich Arab country and working in an oil servicing company, a friend gave me the phone number of one girl from Abia who was a doctor. Told me the girl just graduated from medical school and was doing housemanship and ready for marriage that I should try my luck. Called the girl up, introduced myself to her. Told her my friend game me her number, told her I was looking for a girl for serious relationship that could lead to marriage. She took offence and said I shouldn't have told her I was looking for something that will lead to marriage...that that's not how it's done. That I should just have tried to be her friend first. I was like hmm, when has stating your intention from the get go been wrong? Anyway I kept trying to sound nice and remain calm. The next time we talked, I asked her why she has an English surname even though she's from Abia state. She told me that I sound like a typical Nigerian man and she hates typical Nigerian men and our wack mentality. She asked me don't I know that some of these our igbo names have ancestral curses? That they changed their surname because they don't want ancestral curse. I was like hmm. So the English name you are answering doesn't have ancestral curses? The same English people that bought and sold slaves, killed millions and used children for sex? The girl cut the call and stopped replying my texts. Thinking about it now, I just realise how much low opinion we hold of ourselves. I have lived abroad for 7 years and I have come to realise that we are not as bad as we think we are. Our culture is not as bad as we perceive it once we become exposed to white man's culture 8 Likes 3 Shares |

Try to be her friend first. Don’t ask too much questions. Act different, don’t be like other guys asking her, that’s be opposite of what other guys will do |

“ Called the girl up, introduced myself to her. Told her my friend game me her number, told her I was looking for a girl for serious relationship that could lead to marriage.“ 🤣🤣🤣 You met a girl for the FIRST time and stated saying all this? 🤣🤣🤣 Even my grandma will be pissed off. 3 Likes 1 Share |

SangoOlukosoOba:well the thing is her style and my style are different. I was looking for courtship. courting is a purpose-driven romantic relationship. Whereas people enter into dating relationships without ever discussing expectations, when you enter into a courting relationship, both people know they are heading toward marriage. But most importantly is her belief that my style was a Nigerian thing. Lol. In Qatar and India and many Conservative countries, families advertise their eligible kids on newspaper for eligible suitors to call. If you doubt this, go to the Qatar newspaper called Gulf Times and read the classifieds there. Not too long ago, Nigerian women only meet their future husbands during introduction. Believing that the only right way is the white man's way is actually a backward mentality 5 Likes |

Alhajipaulo:I don't know what other guys will do though. But I have developed an attitude of go straight to the point when dealing with a girl. That way, you don't waste precious time chasing what will never be. The purpose of this thread however is to tell pseudo-exposed Nigerians who believe the world is a Hollywood movie that there exists other beautiful cultures outside white culture and that being a typical Nigerian is not a bad thing 6 Likes 1 Share |

Razgas:Once I make your acquaintance as a Nigerian and you introduce yourself as Alex, Geoffrey, Ben, Vivian or any other foreign name like that, l'll simply feign surprise and ask for it's meaning. Their reply often is, "It's an English Name!" "I know it sounds English or foreign, but what's the meaning in it's language of Origin?" ...they've no idea! Some ignorant peeps will answer Billy with pride not knowing it means He-Goat! You can't willingly be answering Abdul and still claim to have human rights! Let us all be proud of our Local names even if it sounds like Ogbono, Edikangko or Gargariser. 3 Likes 1 Share |

Razgas: A doctor with shallow and petty thinking... If family names comes with curses, every family will be held in bondage. Are you sure she is not a native doctor, better ask well ooO, make you no go do mistake, thinking she is a medical doctor. |

Dshocker:lol.. very shallow thinking. But she's not alone in this thought. Nigerians who never left the shores of south Nigeria sometimes think only western culture is the way forward. I have lived in UK, Australia, Qatar and Turkey. I can tell you now even as an Igbo Christian that I'd rather be a Qatari than be an Australian if I had the choice. I love white culture too but it is not the only beautiful culture out there. Our culture here is also beautiful. Put a little more money in our pockets and our cultures will look fancy |

Going straight to the point in this case was lame. It reeks of desperation and anyone would be cautious even irritated unless it's a desperate one too. U should start with a conversation, do a psyche evaluation of the person then gradually introduce ur intention. Sometimes, na we dey undo ourselves 1 Like |

My brother, I observed pride from her replies. When considering marriage, your happiness comes 1st before profession. Most of them feel you're coming for them because of their profession. |

DonEd:you could be right. But then again there is no one way of getting into a relationship with someone. That was however not the purpose of this thread but to highlight the pride in her that she answers an English surname |

Razgas:When it comes to settling down with a woman, making her your wife, goes a long way. When it comes to chop and clean mouth, you can go straight to the point, cause it’s all about the conji. But when it comes to who you gon be spending the rest of your life with, raising your kids, giving you peace of mind with all the gbas gbos with men are facing, involves a lot of sacrifices from you. Not all the time we from toxic. If gangsters need love too. |

Razgas:bro you're too straightforward, I know her mentality probably stink as well because she seems to be all those type of brainwashed mofos.., but that's not how you relate with women... learn game, learn to know how women think so you can know how to roll with them... someone you haven't seen and you've already started telling her your intention, haabaa... shey you never see woman before? you'll sound inferior to her sef... bro, move on, learn game, forget about her, learn how women are wired, learn about the female nature then go for a new fish... be bold and confident... |
