Then why won't they give jpes a free hand for Sao Tome?..
There will be increasing calls for some of their favs not to be invited. na step by step dem dey use take win war. cross one bridge first

What if Jpes himself isn't willing to invite new players? I don't want to believe that it's the NFF that's stopping him from calling up fresh legs in the midfield since all these days...

Augustine Okocha and Sunday Oliseh were called up to the Super Eagles from a Flying Eagles team that couldn't make it past the group stage of the Mauritius 1993 U20 Afcon, so your analogy is not cast in marble.

20 years ago players use to drink and smoke and didn't have the same competitive intensity as well physical and tactical demands we have now.

You are scratching the bottom of a burnt out dead pot to present a warped but unrealistic comparison.

my biggest worry is our aging centre options and poor midfield

I agree... Ekong and Omeruo are looking past it..experienced yes, but not so good, especially with their lack of pace... Ajayi is decent somehow... Akpos, I think we have seen enough of him and he is nothing exceptional.... We need fresh legs for that CB role...
As for midfield,it's only Iwobi that's making sense... Aribo needs to find a better team to get back in shape... Ndidi too...

Okoye maybe, but he has not shown enough yet to be regarded better than Uzoho. Let's see how good he his when he face powerhouses that'll actually test him e.g Brazil.

That's your opinion not written in stone.

Is it time for the invitation of Arsenal goal 🥅 keeper , Arthur Okonkwo showing a lot of promise.

Pls stop throwing jibes my man,you failed to understand my simple analogue on Nwakili in Segunda relating to super eagles invitation…..my point is simple as ABC for you to grab due to your knowledge in football but you keep on failing to get it.

Now let me ask you simple question again…if Nwakili performance this season was in la liga would Peseiro denied him based on what we have in the middle.

Segundo division is poor quality and there is a big gulf in competitive quality between La Liga and the Segunda.

Nwakali would not have any dominance in La Liga with his limited ability, he would be in Valladolid or Almeria. Getting RELEGATED.

So why would Peseiro invite him just because he is in La Liga. Don't think so

try using recent history so that you would not sound like a dinosaur. The topic is on home based players. Not sure what osihmen, alampasu or nacho have to do with the discussion. They dont fit in it.
Your myopic viewpoint seems impressive to you. I am discussing trajectory of players who started in Nigeria whether NPFL, NNL or NON-LEAGUE club and left for foreign clubs. Their choice of clubs for a start and how their career went afterwards.

Home based vs Foregm based

My take on the above issue is a simple take. While we cannot rewind the hands of the clock back to the 90s when we held sway in the African and global scene, we must understand that times have changed which seems to lend credence to the school of thought that we need foreign based professionals more than we need Home based players. However all of these arguments need to be balanced. We seem to have a weird view depending on current circumstances. When eagles are winning, we seem to lean on the idea of we don't need Home based. Once we start getting poor results, the tune changes. Truth is can we really beat our chest and say we have the best representing us both Home and abroad?

Forget the club a player plays in. Does the said player have the skillset required for his role in the national team? If all things are being equal and we will be devoid of bias and sentiments, who says we have to shop abroad always to find the next big thing? Once a player starts scoring weekly we must invite him to come and justle for shirts. Everyone cannot play. We need to stop the idea of polarizing folks against certain demographics based on where they play. Akpoguma akpogunma... now he has played what has he brought to the national team? We fail to look at the team through the eyes of every coach that has been inviting these players. Do they fit into their ideals or philosophy if they have any? When a coach keeps inviting players based on media recommendations and not based on requisite qualities of said players it's sad to say we will always have the same results. Keep also in mind that nigeria is a great footballing country which means we have limited patience and tolerance for mediocre performances on pitch especially when they are on for a long period of time.

While I don't subscribe to the idea of playing a home based players who will end up jetting out to obscure leagues into oblivion, I think finding the right fit who will play with passion regardless of where he plays should be the objective and the criterion for what player is being invited into the National team.
Many thanks

true. I'm thinking about the issue of having a quota for the home based players. once the home based player leaves the league they become part of the foreign legion. This brings out a dilemma. Let's say we invited 4 home based players. They all performed well for us and they got signed to foreign clubs. They are already part of the team and they have become foreign based. Since they are already part of the team, that means that there is no more space for home based players. The national team needs a strong and consistent core in other to dominate the continent. How do we then make space for the 4 home based compulsory quota in every player list ??

Finidi all the way for me.

UEFA licensed coach.

League winner in domestic football.

Has an attacking philosophy.

Successful as a player in national team and club football so should naturally command respect from the players.

Already part of the current team setup so shouldn't take time for him to adjust and implement his ideas for the team.

Lastly looking at him subjectively his personality doesn't look like the type that will clash frequently with players or cause division.

I don’t blame NFF entirely. Na only quack coach go work under that kind circumstance to start with.

What if Jpes himself isn't willing to invite new players? I don't want to believe that it's the NFF that's stopping him from calling up fresh legs in the midfield since all these days...

It is not the NFF, at least for the most part. JPes is hoping to leverage on the old players influence to keep his job. It's why he kept inviting them. It's also why you'll notice the old guards like Musa and Omeruo seem to be advocating for him to stay. They all know their spots isn't exactly save with the advent of a new coach.

I really don't know what people like Omeruo are doing in the team.

There is a reason why he has been a journey man player always at poor quality clubs and even lower leagues.

Many people commend him here but I've seen him make so many routine mistakes it's incomprehensible how he has remained in the SE.

List the routine mistakes.

Which Super Eagles defender should be invited to take his stead

Onyedinma (green) vs Nwakali (blue) grin

You seem to carry statistics as the be all and end all of football appraisal. I say it again statistics are indicative not conclusive.

Are all goals the same NOT EXACTLY, a player may not have one on one dominance but is a fox in the box and get lots of tap ins and scored penalities. So it

When you start making comparison between different leagues it becomes even more problematic. Not all second tier league are the same.

Not all leagues have the same distribution of comparable quality from top to bottom. Not all leagues have the same physicality and intensity. In this case the Segunda division Vs Championship.

Without prejudice Nwakali would be lost in the Championship ok n the other hand Onyedinma would-be dominating in the very poor quality Segunda.
