Oga, come out from your hiding o, we want to hear yours too. BTW, if you are in a dilemma and you are to choose between two evils, the lesser one will be chosen, So I don't expect any Chelsea fan to support or give Barca any encomium for that feat from 2008-11 judging by what transpired between the two clubs, but without being biased, I don't think any club can have a complete team like that of Barca's 2008-2011 in this era. raumdeuter:The question should be 'Which is better' 1 Like |

MorataFC:Barca was good then. But they are overrated. Too many magomago by UEFA. If VAR had been introduced then, we wouldn't be having this discussion as technology would have exposed many questionable calls by refs that clearly favored Barca. At the moment, Real Madrid is the biggest club in the world. Uefalona no reach |

Past decade we witnessed Ronaldo, Messi, Benzema, Harry Kane, Lewandoski... Goal scoring machines, record breakers and to an extent Ibrahimovic, Suarez, Neymar, Hazard and now Mbappe and Haaland. Honestly those first five guys could have been legends in different eras were they born in different eras of time |

MorataFC: I think Barcelona of those years were more fearful, Many teams gave up before even stepping on the field. With Man City you still get a feeling like you have a chance against them, See Inter had more chances than them, Bayern had some chances as well. With Barcelona those years, your leg will barely touch the ball. The 2 finals Barcelona played was a stroll in the park, they totally dominated it. Regarding who will win, Its hard to say, Man City will have to play on the counter against that Barcelona side and hope they dont concede basketful before they even have a chance 5 Likes 1 Share |

The UCL is the most prestigious club competition but it is not the most difficult to win and is definitely not representative of determining the best club in Europe when treated in isolation. You cannot 3-peat the UCL, sparsely win anything else but then be the best. That is just nonsense. And as for those going on about UEFA and fraud, it may to surprise you to find out that almost every RM UCL win was marred with a refereeing mistake that helped the team more so than Barcelona were ever helped. The Bayern vs RM double headed tie of few years ago is a great example. I know some people are blind to facts but at this point it bears repeating that Henry was pulled down twice in the first leg against Chelsea that should have been stone-wall penalties. In the second leg, Eric Abidal was wrongly sent off when replays showed he did nothing wrong. And Barcelona only qualified for the finals because of a long range shot from Iniesta at the literal end of the game.. Surely, a ref that is trying to help Barcelona would not hope they snatched something from the game at the last second whilst giving them a red card they did not deserve. People should put on their thinking caps once in a while. 7 Likes 2 Shares |

A001: Who's talking about voting? Most pundits both during interviews and in articles make reference to Barca 2008-2011 as the best ever in club football. It's the general perception in official football circles. You dont need to argue about this for argument sake. There is a reason why when City won this UCL, the benchmark against which they were measured was Barca 11 and not any of the Madrid teams. Which of the Real Madrid teams can defeat Barca 2008 - 2011 consistently? 1998 - 2002? 2013 - 2018 that a less potent Barca side was wiping the floor with? Or is it 1961 - 66 that Pele's Santos was rubbing shoulders with? None among them can. Real Madrid might be the greatest club of all time on an aggregate level but the best ever single team belongs to the Blaugrana. 1 Like |

ThierryJay:Real Madrid is the number one at the moment. Below is your initial post I quoted. If you had said regarded in the post, I'd agree with you. At the moment, Real Madrid is generally regarded as the biggest and greatest club in the world. Some years ago, it used to be Barca. ThierryJay: |
Re: Official Chelsea Fan Thread: Champions Of Europe 2021 by Kilishihunter: 5:31pm On Jun 22, 2023 |
Android17:It's just agenda nothing else. If pep didn't dominate outside Barça or several Barça players didn't form a dynasty alongside players from other clubs to form an international dynasty by winning three consecutive international titles in a row with Messi going on to play in a world cup final and later win late in his career this argument might have been redundant, It's okay to have another club team as your greatest of all time as your pick as it's subjective but I believe saying the RM three peat team is greater than Pep's 08-12 side is primetime comedy |
Re: Official Chelsea Fan Thread: Champions Of Europe 2021 by Android17: 5:33pm On Jun 22, 2023 |
Kilishihunter:Prisoners-of-the-moment analysis that's why. Last season, Liverpool dominated RM with Courtois being man of the match. RM scored 1 goal against the run of play but RM was being praised, Ancelotti was being extolled and the general narrative was that RM deserved to win. Even though PSG destroyed them, as did Chelsea and City just before the finals. On the other hand, Inter Milan did nothing of note all game until City deservedly scored and should have been 2 goals up if Foden finished his dinner. But what I have been reading here is how Inter could have won and "all the many chances" they created. 1 standard is used to praise RM and another standard is used for other teams. 1 Like |
Re: Official Chelsea Fan Thread: Champions Of Europe 2021 by Android17: 5:38pm On Jun 22, 2023 |
Kilishihunter:It is a pure joke. Nobody looks at that RM team as a reference for anything. There was nothing definitive about their style, how they won or how momentous they were. They just won and deserve kudos for it but anything other than that is crapology. People don't understand what it means to be generational. What it means to define an era of football never seen before or a consistency many had claimed was chimerical: a figment of one's imagination. Something that could never happen. That was Barca circa 2008-2012. 1 Like |
Re: Official Chelsea Fan Thread: Champions Of Europe 2021 by ThierryJay: 5:40pm On Jun 22, 2023 |
Kilishihunter: It's the natural bias at play. All those offside goals vs Bayern, last minute pen vs Juve were as bad as Ovrebo's case, but they've chosen to play ostrich in the sand. Which Ref supported Barca to win in 2011 and 2015? Is it the deserved red card to Real Madrid in the Semis 2nd half? That would be laughable. When Arsenal was red carded vs Barca in the 2006 final since 24th minute first half, did you hear them give excuse that Barca won unfairly only because Arsenal got an early red? They weren't saying that because they were fiercely anti-Arsenal then. 4 Likes |
Re: Official Chelsea Fan Thread: Champions Of Europe 2021 by Kilishihunter: 5:40pm On Jun 22, 2023 |
Android17:Inter were the ones behind so they were always likely to push forward for a goal, If they had equalized they would have likely reverted back to their defensive shape to still try and hit you guys on the counter, Real Madrid owed most of their 2021/2022 winning campaign to courtois's unbelievable reflexes, That win was more of several player's individual brilliances rather than a tactical madness but of course Real Madrid is the poster child while the rest are commoners, Anything they do is true and gold even if they don't have the best of seasons 2 Likes |
Re: Official Chelsea Fan Thread: Champions Of Europe 2021 by Jodera: 5:45pm On Jun 22, 2023 |
That 3 peat Real Madrid side was just there. They were good but certainly not the best. In all the 3 peat, they weren't overwhelmingly favourites to win the competition until they reached the final. Heck, every team had a belief that they can beat them (well until they're knocked out) Guardiola's Barca on the other hand was a different level. Everybody who meets them expected to park the bus or at least tweak their formation just to contain them. You park bus, wahala; you no park bus, wahala. They were a joy to behold, they were devastatingly dangerous. Any win against them then is greeted with much euphoria and fan fare by even opposition fan. There are levels to this thing and Madrid 3-peat team no near am one bit. In fact, there's a reason Zidane isn't still feared even with his 3 peat. Guardiola on the other hand was very very most feared then! 5 Likes 1 Share |

A001: SMH, Oga you dont even understand the argument here. Real Madrid has been the biggest and most successful club in the world since 2000 (over 23 years ago). That has not changed since then and is not the bone of contention here. The point is about the strongest group of player performance ever seen in any club at any given point in time, and the question arises, which of the great Madrid teams would consistently defeat Pep's 08-11 Barca side? Is it the three-peat version that a less strong Barca side was smashing 4-0, 3-0, 5-1 upandan? That is the koko. None of Madrid's great versions can stand toe to toe with Pep's Barca side. I rest my pen. 2 Likes |
