Wagner Group is a private military company like Academy and Blackwater in the US, mostly used to by governments to carry out sensitive operations which the military and special forces can't carry out. Wagner aren't just prisoners. They're highly trained, neo-nazi extremist mercenaries (you can read about this online) who were largely considered to be Putin's private army before his recent fallout with Yevgeny due to his opposition to the Ukraine invasion. It's funny how you managed to make this about the US when this is purely a domestic dispute.
