Thus your case isn't economically viable. The best thing is to look for something better or stop the job because you will later realise later the its only company that's profiting from the equation.

. . . I moved to Abuja to work as an Administrative assistant at (name withheld) close to Galadinmawa.

Is it possible to move to somewhere closer. . .

Can you sleep at the office during the week
and go to your friend's place on weekends?

You have to stop.... because your expenses shouldn't be more than your income.... meanwhile look for a better pay job before you resign ....wish you good luck.

Don't run another Man's business with sweat debts hanging on your neck every month. From your analysis you need additional 5k to transport yourself to and fro office. You don't need advice on that if you had met them and they snubbed you. Get out fast and look for another job

Good day, sirs and ma. I moved to Abuja to work as an Administrative assistant at (name withheld) close to Galadinmawa. The agreed pay with my employer was 50,000 which I accepted because I don't want to stay idle and I wanted to garner experience.

The Friend's house I stay is in Kagini. Those that know Abuja will know this place. The transportation cost from the house to my place of work is 1,100 and coming back same, which makes it 2,200 every day excluding Saturdays and Sundays.

After crossing my T's and dotting my i's I found out that The total cost is 2200 x25 days= 55,000 with a 5,000 deficit. The organization provide light breakfast and lunch. So, my food is a bit covered.

I am just confuse now. I talked to the organization for a pay rise but they gave me a stiff neck.

Please what will you advice me to do. I am seriously frustrated with the look of things. Do you think it's worth it.

P.s. I have worked for a month there now. I am scared my friend will complain that I am not contributing.

. I'm drained and frustrated.

Since you are close to Abuja, go and report them to Tinubu. There eyes go clear

Asking your employer for a pay rise is an insult to them. They will start persecuting you in look for your replacement. They feel they are doing you a favour by employing you when there is high unemployment rate

Try make friends around your neighborhood, In the process of that, ask if your new friend(s) know of anyone that's mobile working around your office that will pass through your office to his/her place of work. Let them connect you with the person and try to go visit the person with your friend officially and seek his/her assistance in dropping you at office junction or the most convenient point for them. As you do that make plans in getting a more comfortable work that the proximity is either friendly or with good pay.

The issue is that you said you are squatting with a friend which implies that you are either not very good with your way around yet or you do not have the means to get your accomodation right now.

If the former is your case, then I will have to that Galadinmawa is a habitable suburb. You could still houses with decent rent around there. Staying around there will reduce/eliminate TP to work from your spendings. To be frank, Kagini and Galadinma are lengths apart.

If the later is your case, then you will still have to discuss your situation your employer again and this time, instead of pay rise, discuss the possibility of getting an accomodation with them.

Rent a single room at Galadimawa Village at less than 50k for a year, manage it till you grow. Meanwhile 1 month working in that environment is enough to get a place to cohabit

No sir. They don't allow people after closing hours. I talked to the security man but like 3 persons are squatting with him already. He told me they come immediately we all leave work and they leave the security house very early. The room is very very congested. He wanted to help me but that was his explanation to me.

Does your family stay in Abuja? If yes, quit the job, go back home, re-strategize, and hopefully, a better job with proximity will come again.

And if not, speak to your friend to give you some time and lay down the same complaints you gave us here to him and wait for his response. If he's empathetic and patient, give yourself a time frame of 1-2 months to get something better. While you are at this, don't laze around, procrastinate, or get laid back. Be charged up and start looking out for better opportunities.

55,000N salary in this dispensation is simply slavery. With the hike in transportation costs and no extra allowances/provisions for workers’ well-being, why are Nigerian employers not sympathetic enough to workers’ plights? They should understand that with such a paltry amount, burnout is imminent and the frustrations are likely to be transferred to the performance of the job. It's sad.

Don't worry, you will become employer of labour one day and then you will understand that even business owners are not finding it easy these days
Re: Should I Stop My Job Or Continue? by Hidewell(m): 4:46pm On Jun 24, 2023
It like you a prophet sir. I noticed the attitude recently. I don't blame him. I would have rented mine close to a village maybe Kabusa but the house rent is 80k and I don't have that amount to pay for house now but there is God.

ecolime:
Transportation cost isn't funny anymore. It's eating up people's income.

A friend of mine living in Ikorodu and working on the Island says he spends about 40k weekly to fuel his car.

Soon your friend accommodating you will give you attitude. You can't afford not to contribute towards home maintenance.

I would advise you get a room apartment close to your office. Even if na face me, I face you.

Yes, it is small depending on what guy can offer. The best option is to quit if he can't get a closer accommodation

Sir, I asked some of the top staff to please assist me with their boy's quarter while I pay 30k every month but they refused. They gave me excuses which I understood. Also, the staff I met there which we rapport outright told me they can't help for now. They suggested I get a place close to Kabusa with an accommodation cost of 80k but for now, I don't have that huge amount. It would have helped me access and save up.

Dshocker:

You mustn't stay with your friend, try to make new friends and ask for help from random close friends for accommodation space.

If you had some money... You could have rented a house close to your organisation... Like kabusa village. Transportation will be cheaper for you. I think you might see a one room where you will be paying monthly.... But still ask for a pay rise

I so much appreciate your advice for him because sometimes it might be the experience gather there that will prepare you for something better ahead.
So if you feel you can still endure please do and if otherwise quit

brainpulse:
If it can't pay your bills and will leave you in debts, you better stop or you will continue to work in frustration and you will continue to blame it all everyone around.
But if you can manage it for a while until you get something better or add side hustles to it. The decision still lies in your hands to either count the cost or the lost.
