Mismanagement! Ghana and Zambia are currently in the same debt cacoon due to mismanagement. Ghana could avoid hitting 104% debt to GDP by now. Ghana is broke! They have recently gone for a whopping $3B to cater for the balance of the payment deficit.
Ghana constantly falling into economic turmoil _ for a decade and counting Notwithstanding her title "largest Gold producer in Africa" and "world's largest cocoa producer" will still remain a sixty-four thousand dollar question.
How you wish Ghana was in the horrible mess Kenya and Zambia are in at the moment due to your cycle of mismanagement.

Ghana debt currently is below 50% of it GDP ... That's what prudency looks like and I wish same for Kenya but you guys don't seem to be taking it as you keep borrowing to spend on useless stuff hence unable to pay.

It's the kind of politics we practice in Ghana.
Politicians are pushed to spend unwisely by voters demand hence the two parties have to out do themselves during election years.
I wish they changed the election cycle from every 4 years to 10 years single term.

This will engender continuance in policy direction
Overspending in what terms? Infrastructure development, subsidy initiatives, Tax reduction, or what? Because every country does that! Overstretching their work for political gains and to clog voters' mind.

Ghana's debt to GDP is 104% ~ IMF, WB, Reuters, BBC. Keny point, IMF - Your Godfather.
Kenya's debt to GDP is 67%

Kenya is not a mineral resource country.
Ghana is mineral sufficient country.

Ghana's GDP is depreciation, for starters, Ghana's GDP in 2023 is $70B, from $77B.

Decompound this information and judge for yourself.

Yes in infrastructure and they are mostly prudent spending.

No country does it as much as Ghana does because the political race here is just a 0.1% margin of separation.

If Kenya did that, it will be as developed as Ghana yet still badly mismanaged than Ghana can ever think of

Ghana debt is 400 billion cedis and GDP is 870 billion cedis. ( Give it to a KG kid to calculate the percentage for you).

Yes Kenya is a mineral rich country but without the know how to extract any. Education is important.

Ghana's 2023 GDP is 95 billion dollars.

Nothing to see in Ghana as far as infrastructure is something to go by.

Infrastructural development is seen. Eye test will see you behind doors. Ghana doesn't come anywhere close to Kenya, TZ, Nigeria... In that regard! We have seen it through pictorial test. Electricity, maybe you can have a say.

Yet Ghana is above your country in every infrastructure.

Yes infrastructure development is seen hence Ghana extensive infrastructure from water supply to roads to health to education to electricity.

Even looking at Kenya and Ghana by satellite is like night and day.

You're mad
Typical Kenyan nonsense
Official central bank data

Ghana's current GDP per Capita is 3,100 ... I wish Kenya can rise from it 1,800 dollars

Soon you'll start complaining that it is from minerals so we should subtract it 😂🤣

Take your humble pie. Ghana impresses no one. Ghana's GDP per capita from an increased population with depreciated GDP can't be anywhere close to $2,000.

Let's try it out.

$70B ÷ 36M

You'll get something close to 1,944 USD.

What are you talking about?
Road Quality index - Ghana is below the barrel.
Total Road Network - Ghana is a village, nowhere in top ten.
Railway networks - Ghana is nowhere close

Three capital cities in Ghana will form mombasa - but the facial looks will have to be degraded because of Kumasi and Takoradi ugliness.

Should we try satellite view of Accra CBD vs Nairobi CBD --- Airport city vs Central Nairobi CBD?

Dude, Ghana is nothing. Accept the facts and critiques. Don't make it a you vs you when being bombarded with Facts.

Did you download the book to read the pages which described the Africanization policy and how Kenya was in short supply and unable to pay workers because it was broke ?

Did you read the part where Nkrumah had to save your country by sending you Ghanaians whom he had to sustain on Ghana pay role until Kenyans got educated to take up roles slowly withdrawing Ghanaians from there?

Ghana and Zambia are Siamese twins. From the outside they appear progressive, democratic and all that. But generally they are broke - Kwacha and Cedis use to be the biggest joke in Kenya. I remember in Kenya during 90s people use to laugh at Kwacha. It was like Cedis 50,000 to a dollar.

These two countries - outwardly looks good - inwardly you have moronic leadership that dont just get what prudent public financial management is.

IMF will exit today - 3yrs on the dot - they will be back for another SPENDING LESSONS - as soon as they leave Accra and Lusaka - they start overborrowing and overspending - 3yrs later bankrupt - IMF again.

Obaaderemi2:
How Ghana keeps falling into economic turmoil incessantly since the 60s needs to be studied. I mean, Ghana was a rising star in the 50s and early 60s, then by the 70s millions of Ghanaians had emigrated, mostly to Nigeria. You seem to be doing very well again in the 2000s, then bust again. With all that mineral resources and a small population without much tribalism, it's amazing you are not the Taiwan of Africa.

Sound like you have Nigeria disease of delusion of grandour.
Nobody in Kenya knows anything about Ghana or have met a Ghanian.
Same with Nigeria - until recently with nollywood.
You simply do not exist - you're tiny country

You had big economy based on Gold - but look at you now - South Africa Gold counted - your country look like a chicken coop.

Nobody even believe your country name is literally GOLD COAST.

Where is the GOLD?

He might be genuinely naive.
Before Zimbabwe broke all the records in inflation and mismanagement.
Ghana and Zambia use to be poster children of economic mismanagement in Africa for many years.
Somehow in 2005 - they woke up.
Otherwise both Zambia and Ghana lead in number of times of hyperinflation.
Cedis hit 50,000 to a USD!! Only Zim and maybe Zambia has beaten such a record.
Cedis was redominated - somewhere 2007 - already devalued 15 times!
Kwacha was also re-dominated - they started from zero in 2013 - already it has lost 17 times to the USD.

How do you expect them to compete against cheap imports from Asia? He's trying to protect the industry, like Buhari did with rice. The only problem with this kind of path is that you will end up producing substandard but expensive local goods.

I think it's mere threats. It not possible to ban - maybe import duty increase- but EAC and COMESA need to agree. I think he is just threatening - that in 2yrs bla bla.

Yes kenya should increase duty - but banning - are we Nigeria? Maybe Nigerian son in law in one who came with that brilliant idea smiley

The cedis has gained seriously against the dollar from December 2022 to June this year. The Ghanaians seem to be getting something right. So it's not all gloom and doom for the Ghanaian economy.
