Basically a landmass is a huge chunk of space. Think of a rectangle or square, the landmass is the area of the rectangle. Inside the rectangle you can have a large number of lines, see attached graphics

Thanks but don't you think the 10,000 KM proposed is still humongous and superfluous for a state as small as Enugu?

That means the level of deforestation and constructions at unnecessary points and areas will be just too obvious. undecided

what is the total area of Enugu. 7k sqkm how possible 10k km will he import land from Mars.
Very possible, 7k sq km = 7k x 7k km = 49 000 000 Km. Enugu state can contain 49million kilometers of road so what is 10k? If you are talking about availability of money to achieve 10k that's where you have a point

10,000 is too much. The distance from. Nigeria to South Africa by road is 6,500km
Yes, we know it's too much but don't say that Enugu can't contain such length of road. Also, don't compare straight road with numerous inneer roads and streets interconnecting a state. If all numerous roads in Enugu Urban area to join together and straightened, you will be surprised where it will reach. Not to talk of numerous untarred roads in the villages

Nigeria as a whole only has about 60, 000 km of paved roads.

10,000km is an overbloated figure for Enugu state

Enugu cancontained 10, 0000km of paved raods but it means that you have to tar and create numerous paved roads in Enugu state. It's not realistic

Where did you get that Nigerian figure, I don't think I believe it.

But 10,000 kilometres can be paved in Enugu? It's possible
The only thing that makes it impossible is money considering small revenue and other pressing needs, if it's a matter of whether Enugu landmass can contain the road, many untarred roads will still remain after the 10k km

Once a kilometer is mentioned it doesn't include the width. If you add 10,000km by it's width it will be in 100,0000's sq km. For example 1km road by 10m is 1000 * 10 that 10000sqkm. . So tell me , would he tar the forest, houses , and farm land

That is 100 000 square meters not square kilometers. That is equivalent of 0.1 square kilometers for each kilometer of road. Meanwhile, no road is 10 meters wide. The width of road is 2.7 meters which is 0.0027 km. So for each kilometer of road the areas is 1x 0.0027 = 0.0027 square kilometers

Enugu Targets $2b in Diaspora and Investment Forum

…as Gov. Mbah woos investors, says Enugu opens for business

The Government of Enugu State has rolled out plans to hold a Diaspora Investment Forum that would see the state reap $2 billion in investment interests in the first year, even as governor Peter Mbah assured investors of the state readiness to partner with them.

The event tagged “The Enugu State Diaspora and Investment Forum” and planned for April 2024, will be heralded by a couple events, including the Investment and Economic Growth Stakeholder Roundtable scheduled for September 2023 to inform key stakeholders about upcoming investors’ days, Diaspora Forum in December 2023, to bring together the diaspora investing community, and Closed Boardrooms in March 2024 to “close deals and mobilise institutional partners with investment interests in curated projects”.

Dr. Mbah disclosed this at a press conference, which he addressed at the Government House, Enugu, on Monday.

He stressed that Enugu was open for business and welcomed all project sponsors, domestic and international financial institutions, and development partners, even as he urged the diaspora community to invest in Enugu State to deliver transformative development outcomes for their people.

“The Enugu State Diaspora and Investment Forum will be a multi-stakeholder, fully transactional platform championed by the Enugu State Government to accelerate the identification, preparation, curation, and financial closure of investment projects to achieve the State’s Private Sector-Led Economic Transformation Agenda.

“In its first year, the Enugu State Diaspora and Investment Forum aims to attract at least US$2 billion in investment interests” Mbah stated.

Throwing more light on the planned Forum, he said: “In September 2023, the Investment and Economic Growth Stakeholder Roundtable will bring together bilateral and multilateral development partners, as well as senior-level executives from commercial banks, public and corporate pension funds, sovereign wealth funds, private equity funds, infrastructure funds, and other domestic financial institutions for a systematic discussion on advancing viable investment opportunities in the state as my administration steers Enugu State on a path of private sector-led economic growth.

“The Enugu State Diaspora and Investment Forum (ES-DIF) and the series of preliminary business and investment roundtables will be implemented by a Diaspora and Investment Unit established within my office, which will be tasked with the responsibility of working with relevant government agencies, project sponsors, domestic and international financial institutions, private investors including the diaspora investing community, and development partners to crowd in capital for critical development programmes and projects in priority sectors that can improve Enugu State’s global competitiveness and drive suitable development programmes.

“The Enugu State Diaspora and Investment Forum will, among others, identify and curate projects to bankability; work with relevant government agencies to facilitate policy reforms, technical assistance support and innovative partnerships; mobilize capital for bankable projects, including net-zero aligned projects that can unlock the economic potential of Enugu State and South-Eastern Nigeria; implement an annual investment marketplace with special boardrooms for government agencies, potential investors, and project sponsors to match and mutually de-risk projects; and accelerate the financial closure of investment deals brought to the ES-DIF platform by public and private investors”.

According to the governor, the Enugu State Diaspora and Investment Forum will comprise six interdependent activity areas, namely: Enugu State Diaspora and Investment (ESDI) Platform, ESDI Market Place, ESDI Forum Investors’ Day, a Deal Tracker, Policy Environment Reforms, and a Diaspora Engagement Programme.

The governor said his announcement of the planned Forum, Monday, marked the takeoff of the work of the Enugu State Diaspora and Investment Unit.

It is recalled that Mbah had in his manifesto committed to raising Enugu’s Gross Domestic Product (GDP) from $4.4 billion to $30 billion in eight years.

****** ****** ******

Now this is EXACTLY what i'm talking about! Reading the report, it's almost as if Governor Mbah was reading my mind! This is what i was hoping Governor Soludo would have done few weeks after being sworn in to office, and was one of the main reasons why i supported his bid to be governor of Anambra state.

I've stated previously that about $5 billion of the average $20 billion a year that comes into Nigeria as diaspora remittances, can be linked to diaspora Igbo sending money back home....and a lot of these monies are used mainly for consumption. If a wealthy state like Anambra could have the focus and determination to task itself for at least 4 years, i've stated the state could raise at least $500 million per year for Soludos' first term in office. Governor Mbah has stolen his thunder and seems all fired-up and ready for business.....seems the man no come to play!

I saw something in the report about 'net zero'. Don't know if this has to do with investments in renewable energy and the like, but i would like the Governor to do something with the coal and natural gas deposits that are in abundance in the state. This can be linked to investments in electricity generation in the state as well as gas for domestic use and for export.

I'd like to see something done with the moribund and decaying Hotel Presidential, to bring it up to world-class standards. It may need relocating to a more conducive and serene environment.

Also, i'd like to see attention paid to investments in agriculture and its value-chain, as well as sports, education and healthcare.

I think the Governor should make it known that this planned diaspora investment push is for ALL Ndigbo and well-wishers to key into, and not just for NdiEnugu! I'm not from Enugu, but if i see seriousness and the proper channels to invest, i can invest at least £500 into any 'private equity funds or investor funds' as per the bolded in the main report.

Perhaps. I think Enugu needs better road network sha. It should be possible to go from one LGA to another without having to go through multiple points. Or something like that.

I pray they start making the roads wider if possible as the population of the city is increasing in a fearful way.

I like inner roads like Abakaliki road, Ogui and New Haven roads...all dualized.

New Haven area is really planned.

The governor said the Nike- Nsukka road is his first priority to dualize...I hope it' so, as Enugu is attracting so many people at the moment.

TEXT OF A PRESS CONFERENCE BY THE GOVERNOR OF ENUGU STATE, HIS EXCELLENCY, DR PETER NDUBUISI MBAH, AT THE EXECUTIVE CHAMBER, GOVERNOR'S OFFICE, ENUGU, ON MONDAY, JUNE 26, 2023

Gentlemen of the Press,
Launch of the Enugu State Diaspora and Investment Forum (ES-DIF):

I am pleased to announce today, that my government will host an Investment and Economic Growth Stakeholder Roundtable in September 2023, which is the precursor to the launch of the first edition of the Enugu State Diaspora and Investment Forum (ES-DIF) scheduled for April 2024. The Enugu State Diaspora and Investment Forum will be a multi-stakeholder, fully transactional platform championed by the Enugu State Government to accelerate the identification, preparation, curation, and financial closure of investment projects to achieve the State’s Private Sector-Led Economic Transformation Agenda. In its first year, the Enugu State Diaspora and Investment Forum aims to attract at least US$2.0 billion in investment interests.

In September 2023, the Investment and Economic Growth Stakeholder Roundtable will bring together bilateral and multilateral development partners, as well as senior-level executives from commercial banks, public and corporate pension funds, sovereign wealth funds, private equity funds, infrastructure funds, and other domestic financial institutions for a systematic discussion on advancing viable investment opportunities in the state as my administration steers Enugu State on a path of private sector-led economic growth.

The Enugu State Diaspora and Investment Forum (ES-DIF) and the series of preliminary business and investment roundtables will be implemented by a Diaspora and Investment Unit established within my office, which will be tasked with the responsibility of working with relevant government agencies, project sponsors, domestic and international financial institutions, private investors including the diaspora investing community, and development partners to crowd in capital for critical development programmes and projects in priority sectors that can improve Enugu State’s global competitiveness and drive suitable development outcomes.

The Enugu State Diaspora and Investment Forum will have five key functions:
1. To identify and curate projects to bankability.
2. To work with relevant government agencies to facilitate policy reforms, technical assistance support and innovative partnerships.
3. To mobilize capital for bankable projects, including net-zero aligned projects that can unlock the economic potential of Enugu State and South-Eastern Nigeria.
4. To implement an annual investment marketplace with special boardrooms for government agencies, potential investors, and project sponsors to match and mutually de-risk projects.
5. To accelerate the financial closure of investment deals brought to the ES-DIF platform by public and private investors.
The Enugu State Diaspora and Investment Forum will include six (6) interdependent activity areas:
1. An Enugu State Diaspora and Investment (ESDI) Platform – for investment deal origination and structuring, due diligence, and deal advisory services. The digital platform will host a live database of deal pipelines at different stages of preparation.
2. An ESDI Market Place – designed to engage project sponsors, the government, financial institutions and development partners in roundtables and physical/virtual board rooms for project consideration and dealmaking.
3. ESDI Forum Investors’ Day – for investment matchmaking and accelerating deals to financial close.
This includes public sessions, closed boardrooms, business-to-business meetings, entrepreneurship incubation events for start-ups, deal or no-deal type pitching sessions, and a deal gallery open to potential Investors.
4. A Deal Tracker – to regularly review and provide updates on boardroom outcomes and hold periodic update meetings with project sponsors, engage investors and enhance portfolio management and reporting.
5. Policy Environment Reforms – to consistently monitor investment opportunities and risks, and implement policy reforms needed to enhance project bankability, build knowledge partnerships with development partners and the private sector, and develop knowledge products to inform investments in the State.
6. A Diaspora Engagement Program – aimed at engaging Diasporans to increase their participation and contributions to the state’s transformation agenda, including (i) Ndi-Enugu who live outside the State's borders but in Nigeria (ii) Nigerians and other Africans who live abroad and (iii) people of African descent around the world. Building on the work of the African Development Bank Group and Partners, the Diaspora and Investment Unit will work with diasporans on securitization of their remittances, diaspora bonds, trade and investment promotion, and knowledge sharing.

*ENUGU STATE IS OPEN FOR BUSINESS* and welcomes all project sponsors, domestic and international financial institutions, and development partners. I invite the diaspora community to invest in Enugu State to deliver transformative development outcomes for our people.

*Implementation Roadmap:*

That was the first the governor said he was going to do in his acceptance speech after the election.

“We will make you remember March 18, 2023 with a toothy smile. In infrastructure, health, tourism, education and development of our state in general, we will run a government that you can be proud of. We are in a hurry to dualize the Abakpa, Ugwuogo Nike-Nsukka road, build a monorail from Enugu to Nsukka, Udi, Awgu and construct a ring road to connect all the 17 local government areas of Enugu State

“We are in a hurry to build a world-class Theme Park in Enugu. We are in a hurry to establish Special Economic Zones (SEZs) in all the local government areas, as well as Agro-Allied Processing Zones and Industrial Parks in all our senatorial zones.” Mbah

The University will kick off this September and the school fees are very affordable (Between 400k to 700k depending on the course)

Maduka...should have had the masterplan of the university already..

He should engage international landscaping company even on a supervisory rule to beautify the uni...while buildings are also going on...like tree planting roads and parks.

This should not be just another local university.

I hope I am not asking for too much.
