It wasn't due to limitations. It was deliberate. Tarantino used 450 gallons of fake blood for the bleeding scenes. He was looking to replicate 70s Hollywood movies and Chinese cinema

Yeah, I noticed it was deliberately exaggerated when I got to the part where Lucy Liu's character's mom was killed in that animation illustration scene. The blood and all looks similar to the style of the film.

I just find it funny in practice.

If you had watched it when it came out back then, you wouldn't have noticed the emboldened. Back then it was awesome.

Still want Tarantito to do a part 3. Vendetta Greene's daughter hatred can't be on ice just like that. That little girl killed that roll. She didn't flinch, she didn't bat her eyes, she didn't waver, she didn't even look at her mum's dead bod,, she just stared with pure hatred at Beatrice Kiddo.... That kind of hate can't be ignored. Lol

True... The kid was good with the cold look and it was like she knew the atmosphere long before her mom was killed.

Lol, I don't think Barbie is specifically geared towards older males. The appeal is mainly for older women who grew up with the pop culture that was the Barbie doll. And then there's kids too.

Let's see if women in all demographic will turn up enmasse to support this project since the box office has been dominated by male moviegoers recently.

i grew up playing mario games. my kids play mario games. there are multiple generations who tied into mario, a character who has been around since the 70s [originally as jump man].

in the same vein, goes back even longer - apparently as far back as 1959. and to this day there are multiple barbie media tie ins and stand alone movies. i think they will do very well if they are tying into 7 generations or more. like mario, there will be something for everyone in the movie.

Blade Runner (1982)

Synopsis: Rick Deckard, an ex-policeman, becomes a special agent with a mission to exterminate a group of violent androids. As he starts getting deeper into his mission, he questions his own identity.

I can't really rate this movie because I cannot apply modern standards. For example the CGI was quite decent imo even in today's standards...so I guess possibly impressive for a 1982 movie

The practical effects however seemed poor...e.g glass shattering looked so fake even to the most unobservant viewer

The dialogue for the most part was good, but sometimes it felt like everyone was speaking like a poet.

Also for the story, I kinda expected a plot twist that Deckard would actually be revealed to be a replicant himself but I was wrong.
Personally I feel by today's standards, the story was okay. Not the masterpiece people were claiming but okay.

The themes it explores is where it shines actually. It focused on the morality of killing these so called replicants. Just because they were not human, does that mean they deserve to be killed? Most just wanted to survive, they just wanted freedom. The killing wasn't even called killing but retirement.
The replicants didn't make themselves, humans did. And once humans didn't have use for them, they chose to dispose of them

It actually makes you question who exactly are the bad guys? Are the replicants really evil? They didn't chose to be made.

There is also the question about the impact of implanting memories in these replicants.
What really makes a person? Is it our memories that makes us alive? That makes us human?

I think the movie asks a lot of questions, with even some of the replicants questioning who they really are. And I'm glad Deckard began to empathize more with the replicants. He started to humanize them and even fell in love with one.

Btw the first kissing scene between Deckard and that replicant would never fly in today's media. Woke activists would have attacked his approach as being forceful.
They would have said he was sèxually assaulting and forcing them female replicant...they will liken it to the white-male privilege grin

If Ezar Miller scandal is part of the social media presence you're talking about then I don't think it was for the success of the movie. The Flash had an average marketing to be honest, not even half of what Barbie is doing.

My projection for Barbie is in comparisim with how Mario turned out to be honest. If Mario can make that profit, Barbie definitely can.

Mario making a billion doesn't mean Barbie will smell that numbers. It's like saying because Joker made a billion, then a Lex Luthor movie will make a billion. That's weak analogy.

But I hope things goes your way though.

Your joker and Lex Luthor comparison doesn't make sense.

Barbie has the same appeal to women that Mario has to mostly guys. Plus, Barbie is still a popular toy amongst kids these days. Can't say the same for Mario as a video game.

Another reason is the aggressive marketing. Mario didn't do half of what Barbie is doing. Also, it's a summer movie. Most kids, teens and their parents going to the cinema in the holidays will have Barbie as their priority watch. Haven't even factored in adults that have been influenced my the movie marketing.

I don't understand how you all don't see it. Let time tell.

Aggressive marketing does not usually equate to box office numbers. There are films that were aggressively marketed but they turned out badly at the box office.

The question is, will the female audience come through for the movie? What are the odds? The possibility that male audience will turn up to support their brand is higher than women doing same for their brand.

See, I want Barbie to succeed because;
* It's a business, and I can't be against the success of someone's business. Money was spent for its production, marketing and distribution. It's right WB makes back their money.
** Barbie is a multi billion dollar brand with film potentials, and as such, it deserves to be a successful film brand also.
*** Females needs to get one of their favorite brands being successful on the big screen also.

But despite this, I still have to be concern about Barbie's female fanbase turning up for the movie. I sincerely hope they do.

My projection for the movie is $300M to $800M. Truth is, I see it doing the Little Mermaid numbers. But the truth of the matter is, going with its $100M budget, Barbie will definitely break even and be profitable. All it needs to gross to attain that is $300M going with the standard 3x multiplier.

As I said, I earnestly hope, your predictions come true.

Your joker and Lex Luthor comparison doesn't make sense.

Of course it does, just like Barbie and Mario that have their fanbase, Joker and Lex Luthor are both significant DC villain characters, and they both have their fanbase. So how doesn't it make sense?

Well said man...
Yeah, Barbie is a very old product. I didn't want to push my luck stating it cuts across all demographics based on the type of aversion to it I'm seeing from guys here. Anyways, it's gonna be a crowd puller nonetheless in the US.

The marketing for Barbie have been insane. I was thinking The Flash probably had the highest marketing spend for WB this year but when I saw the marketing campaign for Barbie yesterday, both the one I've seeing and other minor ones I wasn't aware of, fear catch me how much was poured into marketing. Either way, the project sure looks like a success cos the product placement alone for what I've seen will more than make up for what the studio has spent on the project.

Naija na third world country Las Las . Majority of Nigerians do not fall into the bracket of people who grew up with barbie dolls or mario games. So they have no familiarity with them or memories of them.

Someone was saying mario is not a world wide phenomenon. Multiple mario games across the decades have been world wide bestsellers. and are critically acclaimed to this day. That is the market. The nostalgia and childhood memories alone. Especially if like in the case of mario, they find a way to shoehorn all 70 plus years of barbie history into the game.

You see the first Lego movie? It also had something for everyone. I was seeing the Legos of my childhood featured, right down to the cracked spaceman helmet. Same goes for the transformers and gi Joe.movies.

If someone were to come up with a blockbuster live action voltron movie, a large number of Nigerians would be stoked for it. Because alot of us grew up on voltron

Nice revenge story, good score, unique storytelling style. Nevertheless, still noticed how the fight scenes look cartoonish, especially the bloody scenes. Blood just dey gush out anyhow like tap like say na comic strip dem dey. I understand the limitations they had with the times then, but it looks funny. 😂

Lucy Liu's eyes just seem weird in this. It's as if she's wearing a facial mask with the eyes stuck in one direction. 🤔

I don't think Barbie was well known in Naija but in my childhood I know them girls knew the character and was one of their fave along them Disney princesses. But for that Mario, even me wey be small boy know say that game was a smash hit with my peers back then. Them fit use that game kidnap some of us then.

So I don't know what argument that dude was arguing the other day saying it's not a worldwide phenomenon.
Only the trailer that I watched I knew billion dollar baby was close by.
