There are no disadvantages to it either as your submission and obedience to God shouldn't be dependent on those around of you or not.

Those who believe they must surround themselves with others who believe as they do simply as a result of dependency issues they are yet to resolve in their own minds and lives. There is absolutely no godly reason to feel one must belong to a group to serve God. This we see from looking at the lives of men suuc as Abraham, Noah, Abel, etc.,all righteous men who obeyed God even without having groups to belong to.

I think there's a wise way to minister to a non-believer without developing a close/tight knit relationship. The purpose for which a believer hangs around a non-believer is to live a genuine life that is vastly different....to the point that the unbeliever inquires about the difference....hence an opening to introduce Christ.
However, depending on the situations, this takes time and the Holy Spirit's guidance.
The goal would be to see a soul surrendered to Christ.

Psalm 1:1 (KJV) states, " Blessed is the man that walketh not in the counsel of the ungodly, nor standeth in the way of sinners, nor sitteth in the seat if the scornful."

What people term spiritual/religious "discrimination" isn't necessarily the case at times. It's a matter of obedience to God's Word. Two different belief systems cannot mix. There really can be no genuine peace when folks don't fundamentally believe in the same thing. Sure, other topics can be discussed, but if one person truly does not believe in God, then how comfortable would he/she be in someone who lives a life daily where praying at any given moment--if needs be, or delightfully speaking about, thanking or praising the Lord multiple times a day, or singing/humming hymns or gospel songs etc.?
Cause to a sincere believer, those above things are normal--a way of life.
What people believe is an innocent friendship, partnership, marriage etc., between a believer and a non-believer, can actually do harm.
Spiritually, it's dangerous. When belief systems differ, each person will live how he/she believes....and soon they will clash and combust.


Amos 3:3 (KJV) states, "Can two walk together, except they be agreed?"

If there are situations where two different belief systems exist (whatever they may consist of-and there's this sense of alleged "peace", then one can bet that someone in the association--meaning ANY type of relationship-- has compromised, surrendered or suffered in silence unable to live their true beliefs. How much greater and more peaceful would it be if people didn't have the tension, frustration, resentment or stress....around fundamental beliefs?

There is no benefits because they're hopeless so since they don't believe there's any rewards for doing what is right {Hebrews 11:6} they only do it thinking whatever goes around comes around but when things doesn't go the way they think the next thing is to take their future into their hands then desperation will make them raise weapons against themselves {Revelations 6:3-4} in the end they will be working towards wiping out themselves from the surface of the earth!
