Before now they look down on our education system, but now that their kids have become lazy and leaving the traditional professions, they are now raiding our so called professionals that they had hitherto looked down upon and granting them special privileges to entice them.
The serious ones there just want to do IT stuff like youtube and run online stores leaving very few ready to become doctors, factory workers, engineers and co.

The lazy ones are now into drugs and other unproductive ventures.
Many people want to be doctors dude. It's just that the demand for doctors has risen suddenly due to a large aging population. Thus the best move is to quickly get doctors from developing countries. Training new doctors takes a long time.

Any doctor still practicing in Nigeria must be making lots of mistakes. Allow quack nurses to inject agbado mutulas.

Go and seat down. A lot of medical doctors are doing care job here in UK. Even the ones that have passed their licensing exams and have their license. It’s not always greener at the other side.

Continuation of Brain Drain

Hmmmm ..... brain drain about to shift to overdrive! Residency was a huge stumbling block to most foreign doctors wanting to emigrate. Guess the quacks will troop in when they leave. We need to seriously return to traditional medicines.

traditional medicines cannot do heart surgery.
the health sector should be advancing and not retrogressing.

America wise die! I keep telling people that any policy these guys formulate is invariably solely to their own interests. But I I love them for the fact that they think about their citizens and country first and I wished our self- centered leaders can be doing the same

Will never happen. Fake news because all the quacks from foreign country’s will forge certificates to practice in US. A lot of hospitals will face huge lawsuit. No hospital will take that risk in US.

The federal government needs to enact a law that will discourage this brain drain.

Regardless, I still don't regret that I shunned studying medicine. I just can't stand the sight of those graphic injuries or ailments that patients suffer from.

A result of of the evil constition we have in Nigeria is loss of good brains. Now more drain has to happen following that US law. We should know brain drain damages the brain, and more brain drain damages it more. Whoever is in love with the Nigeria system as spelt out by the Constition 1999 (as amended), he is an enemy of progress.

You don't mean it!

I know many doctors do not get jobs within the first 4 months of passing PLAB 2, but I had no idea that doctors do care jobs (as opposed to 'shadowing' at hospitals in UK) while expecting COS/Tier 2 visas.

I'll presume this affects medical doctors who emigrate as students or as spouses of students. I don't know.

The only way Nigeria can counter this is to raise the Salary of health workers with juicy incentives as Cuba did.

It costs money to leave the country, but costs doctors even more money because they have to write several certification courses. The good thing is that it's a worthy investment.

All they are doing is making it easier for our medical practitioners to migrate to their country. A time might really come when we will find only quack doctors whenever we go to the hospital.
We can then start patronizing native doctors.

That's the goal.

A country that sees health as an investment.

These Western countries NEED us badly.
They need us to supply raw materials for their industries.
They need us to buy whatever junk they are selling.
They need our professionals.
They need our IT experts.
They need our fresh ideas.
They need our monies (both clean and dirty),
They need us to enroll in their schools.
Yet they will be doing yanga like they don't need us.
They are actually doing themselves a favour by giving us Visa.
THEY F*CKIN NEED US!

Doesn’t matter. Do you know what residency is Go and find out from your mates in the US. Some of them barely sleep and lots of doctors commit suicide during that period. Due to the pressure to apply themselves and use their brains. That is when you separate the wheat from the shaft. You now want to bypass such system. No hospital will take such candidates because the US is very very lawsuit friendly. Many hospitals will go down from malpractice if such standards fall.

I think only USA requires foreign trained doctors to repeat residency if u are a foreign trained specialist. I'm not sure this makes lots of sense especially if the foreign doctor is coming from a country with advanced healthcare system.
However, the biggest hurdle for most IMG remain USMLE, its a tedious exam that requires at least 2 years of solid preparation and intense hard work, and u still not guaranteed a residency slot.
