Every Nigerians studying in this Federal University, Alex Ekweme University, Emboyi must write Igbo Language as a GNS course, this is compustry and not elective whether you like it or not regardless of your tribe. Can Igbos keep silent on this if any Federal University in the SW makes Yoruba language a GNS in Unilag, UI or any other University Yoruba land. 11 Likes 4 Shares

Igbos would love that because they are already doing it (studying other Nigerian languages) 28 Likes 2 Shares |

If this was done in Unilag you will hear noise from Igbo and this happened in 2021. Can Igbo actually allow this without writing petition. Imagine this rubbish in federal University 26 Likes 4 Shares |

Stop the obsession with Igbos. Every university in Nigeria should adopt this because there are several reports that Nigerian languages will go into extinction in no time. No student should have a problem learning the language of the locals. By the way, those who have a problem with the senate's decision should take it up with them, not getting the Igbos involved. 30 Likes 6 Shares |

Maize247: There's something you don't understand about the igbos. They desire the 1963 -1966 roller-coasters in which their sons occupied positions of authority. President Azikiwe, Senate president Author orizu, CDS Aguiyi Ironsi, 80% of military officer ranks and high positions in government offices. That was what ibos see as the right thing. Things are always right and fine when they are in charge and in control. Outside that, it's skewed. Know this fact, making igbo language a GNS is fine to every igbo man. It will not be fine if it is itshekiri, ijaw, tiv, kanuri, hausa, fulani or Yoruba. 31 Likes 3 Shares |

2022Frustrated: I graduated from UNIZIK, Awka in 2015 and in my 100L or 200l we did Igbo as a GST too. It is needed. I'm Igbo but I failed the exam twice! Igbo language is one of the dying language according to UNESCO. anything to save it is fine by us. 18 Likes 3 Shares |

Maize247: Not only in the SW but the entire Country, it would enrich the learning experience. I was born and raised in Lagos, I was taught Yoruba from primary one to J.S.S 3. I communicate fluently in Yoruba language alongside my native language, Igbo. So let Yoruba, Efik, Tiv, Hausa, Igbo etc be a compulsory GST course in our universities. 16 Likes |

I got nothing wrong with this, the problem is, they have to find a way to teach Nigerian languages so that beginners can assimilate properly 1 Like |

Maize247: Are all the students in all the universities in South East from your village? Between 2011 and 2015, 9,000 students of Imo state origin going by JAMB data, got admitted to study medicine......did you expect them to only study within the South East or were/are they studying for free in those universities outside the South East or taking up the quota meant for your people? 2 Likes 2 Shares |

Maize247: Don't get pained. ππππ Even in the Universities were they have Igbo as a GST course, you don't need a credit in Igbo language to be admitted.ππππ Like I posted earlier, let Universities in SW feel free to have Yoruba language as a GST course.ππ 8 Likes 1 Share |

It's a part of measures for national integration. I would wish to know: -How many non-igbos studies in the university? -How will the policy affect the popularity of the institution or enhance the academic potential of the institution? -And why making it mandatory? 1 Like |

SmartPolician: It shouldnβt be compulsory for all undergraduates. They should be given options to study other Nigerian languages. Itβs not fair on students from other ethnic groups who donβt understand Igbo or has done Igbo language at Oβlevel. |

If this was done by any Yoruba University, i am sure you and your cronies would be shouting marginalization by now. It's a federal Institution and that is all shades of wrong especially when its not being implemented Nationally. When you are wrong, you should admit rather than defend. But I expect nothing less from the people who always chestbeats Zupay: 9 Likes 1 Share |
