There have been stories of soldiers and officers being severely punished by court-martial for being too high handed on these vermins or for refusing to stand down during combat against the criminals of Gumi. There have been several reports of instructions from the upper echelon of the army to stop the advancement of Nigerian military into terrorists/ bandits stronghold.
