Deeprooted: even if more workers were employed do they have the discpline and experience is the question. all this is happening because the brilliant minds are travelling abroad to practice their skills where they are appreciated. Nigeria is currently experiencing brain drain because our useless politicians dont value people at all. 6 Likes |

To those encouraging the medical brain drain, hope you or your family members don't have a medical issue. Government is the biggest culprit on this matter. 5 Likes 1 Share |

The best prayer we all need to be praying in this country is for God to bless us to be able to afford good private hospitals when in need of medical attention. Our government hospitals are nothing but places where human beings are left to die when sick. Years back, I lost my mum and a son due to bad medical services being provided in nigerian public hospitals. Thereafter, i vowed never to allow any body i know to go to government hospital when they fall sick because if they go,you can never guarantee that they will come back alive. That is why i dont get bothered when those useless government doctors go on strike becuase even when they are not on strike, all they do is to kill patients in their hospitals. 5 Likes |

Deeprooted:The doctors that left aren't being replaced yet the NUC allow some govt funded schools maintain useless departments when health scientists are needed at tenfold the current rate. No planning whatsoever. I saw a video about Germany needing 40,000 skilled workers every year in the years ahead to close the gap of their dwindling workforce. They know their education system is expensive and so look towards Africa but over here we pretend as if our mini medical science department are adequate for us. SMH. 7 Likes 2 Shares |

If you have any Mission Hospital around you I think it's better although it may cost more than government hospital. What I mean by mission hospital is those hospitals owned by Catholic church or any other church. 5 Likes |

tommy589: It is not a racket. In developed countries, a common phenonenom with hospital operations are long waiting lists at government run hospitals FOR non-emergency operations. Because health care is cheaper, the waiting list is longer. They too have the option of going private, but that is very very expensive (especially in the USA). As an insider, I am surprised it is happening in Nigeria, but at the same time, it is to be expected. It is because of the cheaper cost of care in government hospitals, that the waiting list is longer. People go to where it is cheaper (With the removal of subsides on petrol, queus at NNPC stations which sell fuel cheaper slightly are longer than private stations). 3 Likes 1 Share |

kingthreat: The reality is that condition of service is very poor, I know my skill sets in Clinical Child Psychology is needed direly in Nigeria but I can't imagine myself working in Nigeria......pay is poor, facilities below standards until I decide to open my own facility and the truth is, it is going to be high end which majority can not afford because it is very expensive to set up, setting up a world class sensory room for autistic children will cost nothing less than N25m, so you can imagine how much a child would be charged per hour in it. 3 Likes |

Brushstrokes20: Even if you bring in God himself, the issue is care in most hospitals is subsidised...which in turn brings about the problem of funding. Because government hospitals cannot raise their fees to get more money (and funding in itself is very low...1.5 billion dollars this year, developed countries can spend up to 193 billion pounds ...that is the UK)....the hospitals won't have enough money...and that is before you bring in the issue of corruption...internal and external. Private hospitals don't have that constraint...especially if they operate in the cities.) |

Rayban25: I have left my father's roof while you were still sucking breasts. The brain drain should not be encouraged. Or should all Nigerians be condemned to bad health? Seems you have some kind of evil in you that gets you excited when Nigerians die because of bad healthcare in the country. I also said government is the biggest culprit. They should act fast and Tinubu should stop traveling abroad. The equipment and doctors treating him in France should be imported to Nigeria. 1 Like |

Few hands to cater for the myriads of patients. And now that the President has removed fuel subsidy with no palliative whatsoever, nor increment in salary. Most of civil servants don't go to work everyday, they now run shift (health workers inclusive). I can't be buying fuel 6k everyday (40k every week) on top how much salary? So these has further compounded the problem. I tell you this is not a good time to be a Patient. 4 Likes |
