I know you like your DMs old school; those who read the game well and can put in the tackles. But that doesn't mean it should always be the case. The lines between DM and CM are blurring by the day and i think we are slowly moving past the age of the destroyer. At the highest level, it is not enough to just win the balls, you must be able to contribute to your team's attacking plays. See Partey and Guimaraes for example, they are not exactly destroyers but they hold their own at DM. Caicedo has a good defensive base and an adequate technical skillset which fits in with the well-rounded DM profile Chelsea are looking for. So I don't think he's a bad option, the only problem is the 100m Brighton are quoting.

We bought Morata for £60m and sold him for £58m. We bought Havertz for £61m ex add-ons, and sold him on for £65m.

The other guy we bought for £98m. He came in and scored a paltry 8 league goals, but not before destroying the dressing room and sowing discord with his toxicity, and apparent misplaced 'love' for Inter, in an ill-advised interview that dragged the club in the media.

Stop jumping to conclusions and putting words in my mouth. What you described is Essien, yet Essien could hold position without going running when he was asked to be the main DM, eg if the midfield was Essien, Ballack and Lampard

My definition of a DM is one who holds his position in front of defence. Caicedo is a runner which makes him a CM or even AM. I have never seen him play in a holding position without going off running so undoubtedly I am skeptical as to whether he knows the position tactically, it is still an open question

the main reason Brighton kept caicedo January is because like any other club , losing important player in mid season is a dumb move and they hoped for a bidding war during summer like the way benfica wanted with Enzo.
