Occupy Nigeria was a socio-political protest movement that began in Nigeria on Monday, 2 January 2012 in response to the fuel subsidy removal by the Federal Government of President Goodluck Jonathan on Sunday, 1 January 2012. Protests took place across the country, including in the cities of Kano, Surulere, Ojota ( -part of metropolitan Lagos ), Abuja, Minna, and at the Nigerian High Commission in London. The protests were characterized by civil disobedience, civil resistance, strike actions, demonstrations and online activism. The use of social media services such as Twitter and Facebook was a prominent feature of the protests. On the third day of the protests, a crowd of youths went on the rampage, setting fire to buildings and cars in the Niger State capital. On Thursday, 5 January 2012, the Nigeria Labour Congress issued an ultimatum to the Federal Government promising to halt the economy of the country by Monday, 9 January 2012. Nigerians seem to have very short memory. See the pictures below and wonder where all the supposed freedom fighters are and how suddenly they have all become dumb. Recently we had governors who claim to love the masses approach the supreme court against the CBN. Suddenly, they have all gone dumb Imagine where Nigeria would have been if these ENEMIES OF NIGERIA allowed Jonathan remove subsidy then. Now they are in power and trying to REMOVE SAME SUBSIDY THEY FOUGHT AGAINST Where is the honor ?? And some of them are Noble Laurates, SANs, Last last they were just been WICKEDLY SELFISH since they have retreated to their shelves with the current hardship in the land. A hardship level which is worse that it was even during military regime. Like the worst in the history of Nigeria MEN OF ZERO HONOR

NIGERIANS ARISE AND REJECT THIS HARDSHIP INFLICTED ON THE MASSES BY THE WICKED LEADERS OF THIS COUNTRY They least we should accept from Tinubu and APC is an APOLOGY FIRST for rejecting the removal of subsidy in 2012. They cant just come and remove what they protested against It means or confirms the masses are fools 3 Likes 1 Share |

Nigerians went from eating with golden spoon, to eating with rubber spoon. Uptill now they don't care to eat with the golden spoon again, rubber spoon is now the chosen one. How pathetic can that be, too bad. Never you advise any Nigerian about life, the moment you do, you become an enemy. Nigerians hate the truth with passion, they only jubilate with you when you feed them lies. How you wn take progress self? When you dy support evil, nah e no fit work. 1 Like |

What i don't agree is why you expect the same at of people who are in govt to protest against themselves. What happened to those who are in opposition? Why can't they organise protests with relevant CSOs and see if the masses will not join. Or do you mean only the People in govt now have the boldness to protest? You're pointing fingers at the wrong people |

The forex unification which also favours foreign investors and that was why IMF and world Bank was pushing for it. What benefits them most is what they always encouraged us to do without looking at the adverse effects on the economy. Nigeria does not have the capacity to unify or float its currency against the dollar reason being we can't back it with production and export. Our nation is import dependent and must boot local production as well as exports before embarking on such forex unification. Ghana first did what Tinubu has done, and today Ghana is one of the miserable countries to live in according to recent statistics. Our Naira will continue to lose value against the Dollar and cost of products and services will continue to soar high. Subsidy removal without adequate preparation is a blunder. Floating of Naira against the Dollar without adequate production increase to boost export for dollar generation was also a blunder. |
