I haven't even criticized tinubu that much since he assumed power even though I never supported him and supported Obi.

His first moves looked like what one could call "bold moves", you know, someone ready to take risks and not give a Bleep about whose ox is gored. Although I NEVER supported subsidy removal, I was more in support of an efficient run subsidy, close the loopholes, crackdown on illegal exporters, get the genuine figures of Nigerian consumption of daily crude and perhaps reduce the percentage of subsidy and watch how those false ballooned figures drop rapidly. However I could rationalize the bold call of just cutting the leg off completely rather than manage the gangrene if it meant optimal health for the whole body. I also expected to see heads roll, those responsible for the gross mismanagement of the whole thing.

Then not to talk of "students loan" which initially looked wonderful, like a policy that would positively touch a lot of youths only to see that this was a red herring to mask the massive increase in school fees across all public institutions.

But there was really something I was looking forward to, if jagaban was indeed "fearless and ready to take risk", why haven't any heads rolled?

Why aren't we hearing anything at all on anti-corruption?? Those marketers with nnpc allies who have been robbing us. Why isn't there any single arrest of any former public official?

Instead to the opposite, what we're seeing is a further entrenchment of that entitlement mentality of the ruling class. Tinubu has instead decided to share our national cake in form of bribes and appeasement to the legislooters and the corrupt judiciary in order to buy favor. Almost 400 billion naira in benefits and amoluments to judges and lawmakers, yet you are asking the citizens to "endure and sacrifice" for a better future. While you yourselves mock us with further bastardization of our commonwealth.

I wanted to give myself hope that this government may get things right but it has been wickedness and wickedness, suffering upon suffering of the masses.

Nepa tariffs have increased drastically and fuel prices have also increased drastically so if you have light now, you have to be really conscious of how you use it.
Price of foodstuffs have shot up in the market. Transportation, energy and food, 3 drivers of every single economy is now a very heavy task to the average nigerian.
God help us all.

Buhari prophetically said nigerians will miss him when he left, we joked about it, yet here it is. Na God hand we dey.

Since when do you pay Nepa bill though?

onyemaair:

We pay very low taxes in Nigeria. In America my poultry farm would most likely be taxed. My wife's salary is not taxed at all. Mine is deducted from the ministry but my tax is just 15k monthly. But federal government pays emoluments and allowances.

I also don't go to work everyday. The same thing with many of my colleagues. We have a system that covers for each other. I go to work only 3 times in a week.
You can't have such laxity abroad. You will work through your nose.

Lastly let me tell you the icing on the cake, I haven't paid nepa bill in 3 years. Around us we have people that rig the meter, so it doesn't read. When the nepa people come much later, we settle the staff and he goes. This cannot happen in abroad.

You're a civil servant that doesn't work your contracted hours whilst collecting full salary, doesn't pay tax whilst collecting FG benefits and emoluments, and hasn't paid NEPA bill in over 3 years.

When you ask for the heads of public officials to roll, I hope you picked out a basket for your own...

I read the link u posted and It's obvious the major concern issues being faced by GSK Nigeria is what is stated below:

“We must mention that it continues to be very challenging with foreign exchange non-availability affecting our ability to settle foreign currency-denominated trade payables with product suppliers. As a result, it remains difficult to maintain consistent supply to the market,” Onuzo explained.

How does the above translate to GSK UK bullying GSK consumer Nigeria to exit the market?

For starters GSK UK is not a charity organization but a profit oriented organization that won't hesitate to pull off their franchise if GSK Nigeria is not living up to their financial responsibilities to them. GSK Nigeria is not the only one that leverages on a Global brand's franchise na. Tolaram group has franchise to producse Nestle products, Cadbury products etc in Nigeria and I believe they are living up to their financial responsibilities.

All I see in that businessDay piece is GSK Nigeria lamenting the hostile economic environment within which they operate and how it has affected their financial responsibility to their global partner and may further lead to their demise as a manufacturing company. One way or the other, It has to do with our economy which the APC government is currently in control of

When you hear things like subsidy on fuel should not be removed, subsidy on education should not be removed, etc and the explanation is that the politicians will steal the saved money anyway, it is an unwitting agreement: You politicians keep your embezzled funds, we the people will keep our subsidized goods and services.

How does the above translate to GSK UK bullying GSK consumer Nigeria to exit the market?

The group in a statement issued by its President, Douglas Ogbankwa Esq in Benin City, the Edo State capital, said it has observed with dismay, the unfair related party trade practices of GSK UK, which is aimed at shutting down GSK Consumer PLC local production of its drugs and vaccines in Nigeria.

“As was previously reported, GSK UK who are related trading partners of GSK Consumer PLC has deliberately refused to supply the Nigeria market its life-saving medicines- Asthma, Antibiotics and critical vaccines. This action has led to an attendant astronomical increase in the prices of the drugs and vaccines in a way that makes these critical medicines beyond the reach of the ordinary Nigerian.

“We are also aware that this action and the plan to shut down GSK Consumer PLC operations was rejected by some board members and has led to the resignation of one of the oldest board members on the GSK Consumer PLC Board – Mr Samuel Kuye. Mr Samuel Kuye is a chartered accountant and Fellow of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Nigeria (FCA) who has served as an independent executive director on the GSK Consumer PLC board for 9 years, resigned due to the coercive plans of GSK UK. With Mr Kuye’s resignation and the appointment of 2 GSK UK employees as board members, GSK UK now has the majority of board members on the GSK Consumer PLC Board.

“The diversionary comment of GSK Communications Team that it is the paucity of forex that is responsible for the current GSK drug supply scarcity and price increases is utterly false. Forex Trading and Access has been liberalised in the present Administration, so they putting the blame on Forex is a hoax.

https://sunnewsonline.com/group-urges-fg-to-stem-gsk-uks-alleged-plans-to-shut-down-gsk-nigeria/

GlaxoSmithKline UK (GSK UK) has dropped a scheme to increase its stake in GSK Consumer Nigeria, following opposition from minority shareholders.

The decision to abandon a scheme of arrangement that would have increased its indirect ownership in the unit to 75 percent is a fresh setback for Britain’s biggest drugmaker, which is battling a corruption scandal in China.

The company said on Monday it had agreed to consult shareholders and the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) about the proposal, including whether it should be implemented by way of a tender offer.

SEC is reported to have barred GSK UK from voting during court-ordered general meeting tomorrow (Tuesday) to consider its proposal to raise its stake from 46.4 per cent to 75 per cent in Glaxosmithkline Consumer Nigeria Plc.

SEC is also reported to have fixed the company’s share price for the possible tender offer at a minimum of N60 per share, compared with the N48 initially approved.

GSK UK had last November come up with the proposal to invest more in its Nigerian subsidiary but that investment would only come after increasing its holding to 75 per cent, which the board of GSK Nigeria accepted.

Minority shareholders however opposed the move, saying it is a ploy to alienate them and delist the company from the Nigerian Stock Exchange in future just like the way Coca Cola Hellenic Bottling Company South Africa used its controlling stake in Nigerian Bottling Company Plc to delist the company last year.

Na turn by turn. If you can, receive your income in a business account. By the time you deduct all your expenses and pay yourself salary out of it the tax you and your business will pay will be much lower than if you received your income into a personal account.

Okay, I've read the above and in my personal opinion I think GSK Nigeria are trying to blackmail GSK UK probably because they(GSK Nigeria Shareholders ) are being given a short end of the stick.

1. Delisting from the stock exchange market is not the same thing as trying to shut down GSK Nigeria operations.

2. GSK Nigeria needs funds; GSK UK is willing to provide those funds but will do so on their own terms. Obviously one of those terms includes increasing their stake in the Nigerian subsidiary thereby making moves to eventually push minority investors out.

3. Even Nigerian owned companies, when a major shareholder takes charge, sometimes they move for delisting the company off the stock exchange market for strategic reasons best known to them. Go through this link and u will see list of companies that have delisted voluntarily off the stock exchange market https://ngxgroup.com/exchange/data/delisted-companies/
