@GraciousWords, please do you know anyone who has requested for an appeal in any of the sections of TEF Canada? If yes, did they get a resit or remark?

Thanks.

I’ll appreciate if anyone has an experience on this topic as well.

Thank you house.

I would be interested as well. I think the marking is suspect. I use myself as case study and I am fully convinced there is some funny stuff going on. Do what you have to do. I wish you the best. Try posting in the TEF Canada Facebook page to get a wider coverage.

This data go take time to clean and compute. My only issue with TCF for now is that I haven't seen a satisfactory number of official past papers (don't have enough comfort). It's almost like they are in a vault somewhere. I think I'd take my time to scour the official TEF website and compare. Without past exam papers, I am toast.

There are definitely past questions available. I might still have some in my vault. The TEF Canada Facebook site is golden as it has past questions in all the sections.

If I was a naija person planning on getting high scores, I would concentrate my time and effort for 3 solid months on TEF Canada. No playing around no wasting time with jokers or with people who cannot help you. You would get a min of C1 if you are dedicated.

If someone said they do not have enough time, I ask for a breakdown of how they spend their weekdays and weekends. From their response, I usually see why. They are not yet serious.

Depends on what you mean by a beginner. I would say someone with A2 level can crack TEF Canada in 3 months. If the person has a full time job, then that is a different story altogether.

In the end, the most important thing is the dedication and focus, the timeline is just a guide.

You need a mentor for sure. Someone to guide you through. So if you have 24 hours, absolutely no excuse for you not to smash.

This is what I did in my early days learning French:

I attended a French church and I had a French Bible. Even though I did not understand all the sermon, the songs, the prayers, I continued loading my system.

I watched many French films and French series. "Le diner de cons" and "Paris Je t'aime" were my first. I also watched Kad Merad's movies.

Watch the news. Watch French news and news from Canada and Montreal in particular. Get used to French Canadian accents. Watch clips on the trains, the metro, airports, the cinema, French meteo. Get the transcripts from the news. I guarantee than if you do this, you will go very far.

I read many French kiddies books and graduated to leading adult books, novels, etc.

I joined forums on Facebook and read people's conversations, replies, etc. By just reading comments on the TEF Canada Facebook alone, you learn a lot. Ask for groups you can join.

I had French PenPals from a Polyglot site. One of the chics there ended up being my very good friend. Still friends till this day.

I had the advantage of being in the system so I was exposed to French everyday but if you are in naija, or in an anglophone country, no excuses. You got the Internet. You can connect with people. People need to learn English. Teach them English and they teach you French.

During the 3 months, see yourself as French, see yourself already speaking French and in Canada. Visualise your scores.

Above all, avoid the "branleurs". Too many branleurs exist especially in naija and they will steer you away from the path to success. Avoid many naija contents on FB. Waste of your precious time. They will steal your TEF Canada time. I had no "branleurs" to distract me.

All the best and hope we drink red wine to celebrate.

Hi everyone. I need your help, please. For someone considering taking the TEF exam and trying to decide between Alliance Francaise and IEF, what would your recommendations be, please? This person is not very buoyant financially and is trying to decide based on affordability, ease of taking classes, and success rates. This person also plans to take only A1 to A2 with either of these providers and then switch to a private tutor for the B classes. I need your advice please, to help the person. Thanks in advance.

........you have 30 days from results date.

If it were me and I had CLB 8 and 7 in the others, I would conserve my energy and funds, instead refresh, refine and refire....maybe consider a different centre.

Let's know how it goes. Wishing you the best!

good points man, also brains differ. Someone may crack it in 3 months, but it will surprise many others that it might take way much longer than that for others. Like you rightly said, dedication, focus and most importantly, right preparations will go a long way

I am in a similar boat and considering filing an appeal. I understand if you have reasonable grounds, you’ll be allowed to retake the relevant section again. Have you thought about this or has anyone successfully filed an appeal? What was the outcome? My issue was my screen. I complained that it was dim right from the beginning of the test. I use glasses and the dim screen slowed me down so I didn’t finish typing. Got a B2 but band 6. My other épreuves were bands8,7,7

P.s: Please I’m new here so I’m not sure if I’m doing the quote right.
congratulations anyway, you tried. But it does not work that way. Except if the centre can complain on your behalf or on the behalf of the whole centre. It will be somehow hard. But still appeal though while planning to retake it albeit be more cautious next time. Ask the invigilator to test properly before starting. By the way, what module was this?

You have a good point.

Some people seem to think that TCF is easier. I have a very good level of French and I live in the country, work in the language and have seen people take both exams. Many people on the French TEF Facebook group feel the same.

I have written both exams in the past (general versions) but not for immigration purposes but rather to test my knowledge of French. I had a C2 in expression orale back then in both exams. I scored lower than C2 in the comprehension bits though.

In the end, it is about passing and passing well. There are fine margins.

If I had a candidate with B1 level of French I would advise them to go for TEF Canada rather than TCF given the TEF resources available.

The truth is without past questions, TEF texts would appear tougher than the TCF ones, considering the time.

Candidates can go for whichever one they feel would give them points.

I am interested in seeing scores. Let candidates post their TCF and TEF scores and let us see what the performance is like.

This nairaland bot is forever out for blood embarassed
Wrote an entire thesis in response, it ended up in a ban... grin
I'll just say for the last point, there are results on this thread, in fact in the past year, I've seen more TCF results on here than TEF.
It might be a skewed perception though.

As for TCF materials, there are way more materials now, just have to know where to look.

No oooo. You need at least B1 in all the modules to give it a try. However, Anyone that wants to have a straight line result and not zigzag result should master French to B2 upper in all the test levels before trying

My personal advice to those thinking TCF or TEF, please go for TEF.

The questions are repeated for TEF unless they have changed things since I wrote in 2019.

This helped me make C2 in both comprehesion orale and ecrite. It also helped me smash my French Nat exam. Some questions from TEF Canada were repeated in the TEF Frech Nat exam.

I coached my wife for the French Nat Exam in 1 week and she made B2 in comp ecrite. He French was not good. Past questions helped.

You can also crack the expression ecrite. The expression orale is as the discretion of the examiner. If you have a "tête de bite" as an examiner, they will screw you.

In all go for TEF Canada. If you are a serious student, you will smash. If I could teach my wife to smash in 1 week imagine if you have been studying for months.

All the best.

One piece of advice, stop saying "bon courage". It is a negative word but people do not realise cause they follow others like sheep. You can say "bon chance", or better still, wish the person success. "Bon courage" sounds like the person is going to hell and you are telling him/her to hold forth whilst there, like saying "stay strong in hell". Wish them success rather.

This is correct in my opinion as I took TEF too. One can easily game TEF especially the CO and CE eventhough they keep on releasing new ones from time to time. EO and EE have a pattern and structure, once you master it, Allez Allez. TCF seems easier on the outside, till you get inside but might be easy, never tried can't say.

It was the expression écrite section. I’ve seen the appeal page and I’m strongly considering that. I did alert the invigilator to my issue at the start but he said he didn’t know what to do and I didn’t want to loose time so I just continued anyway.

Thank you. It is a very tough period for me. This is my second TEF and I’ve barely had a life since January. Aced IELTS in January, started studying for TEF and took the first in April. ‘Re-fired’ for this one in July. It’s a very expensive and stressful journey. I have two kids and have had to study all night for months. So you can understand why I at least won’t go down without a fight. Plus, asides that I didn’t finish, I am very confident that what I wrote was at least a band 7. I covered everything. I was adding a sentence to a paragraph when I got cut off. It is well though. Thank you for the response. I appreciate it. I have sent an email to the center explaining my case. I await feedback.

Good evening house!
Please I need a private tutor(online).
I am starting from A1 because I have no knowledge of french since birth. My wish is to write Tef by February. I contacted madam Bizang she said she can not be able to tutor me because of her tight schedule. I really need an affordable teacher.
Please help a brother.

Let me console you a bit, as painful as it may sound ,I know CBT can be messed up at times . When I did mine then. 1 hour into the time the center couldn't download the test software that morning. Everybody started with different paper differently . At times I was even afraid to backspace to verify my answered questions so that I won't go and close the program and submit cos they just started the CBT program then. Only one invigilator will be monitoring two test rooms with different students with different problems. TEF preps can be challenging, so behold Canada and find strength to rewrite again. I know you want to fight for it, fight, but still prepare. You may have to still focus on all modules again, trust me this time around. He go dey easier as you don do am before. Cheers.
