FreeStuffsNG:I disagree with you in the part of removing subsidy for education, fuel and other products. Many developed countries in the world do it for their citizens and even immigrants. Talking of getting loans to fund education, we saw the requirements of what tinubu passed into law, even the poor can't meet up with such requirements. And then even when you graduate after managing to get the loans there are little or no jobs for you to repay the loans that funded ones education. Therefore, you risk going to jail for 2 years for no fault of yours. If you're lucky to even get one you're most likely going to be underpaid. |

casualobserver: Thank God you are not in the position of power...alot of people would have cried...You are talking about a country where looting and corruption by govt officials is the order of the day ...now you are happy and supporting the removal of all subsidies ...which is the only thing the poor gets from the govt . |

Ómó 16k for UNIVERSITY education? I think this may be one of the reasons we are having alot of dumb graduates in Nigeria nowadays. My school fees was 250k which is even cheap and it motivated me to study hard. Nowadays you will see students saying school na scam etc.they lack for passion for education yet they are in schools for what? clubbing, fornicating, scamming and other immoral acts because they know their school fees is a meagre. |

FreeStuffsNG: What an ignorant assertion, Some of You will just wake up and type rubbish thinking You are wise. Now is the Government Subsidizing the school fees from their pocket. A Country that Sold Crude Oil for over 50 Years is supposed to offer free Education from primary to secondary school. Now have You asked yourself where the thieves will put this money they have been using to subsidize education is not to embezzle it. |
Re: UNILAG School Fees Increased From ₦16k To ₦100k - Pamilerin Adegoke by casualobserver: 7:21am On Jul 22, 2023 |
Murketeer: People don’t like being told the truth. Very few countries provide free education from primary to university. Certainly not a poor country with a large population. Listen you are free to demand free university. Politicians will give you what you want, even subsidy if you say you want subsidy they will bring back subsidy. But it is you that will suffer for it….not them or their children. You are the ones that will end up with worthless degrees and unemployable. When you go to university to end up qas an Uber driver, sales girl, bank clerk , admin assistant etc etc it is a sign too many people are going to University. University is not for everybody. The best jobs today are not going to graduates of Nigerian public universities. That tells you how your Nigerian degrees are valued by employers. 2 Likes |

Murketeer: In that same country, people who earn up to £100k per annum are taxed 45% income tax, leaving them with £55k. How many of us pay that much tax in this country? Besides, you said they can afford their expensive tuition fees. News flash: they cannot! That's why many of them school and work at the same time, while others take student loans to offset their tuition and pay when they start working. Again, there's no basis for comparison because you cannot compare 500k to 15 million. It's even disappointing that you are comparing the two figures because I am not. I just gave an example of where things work and how much they pay. Once again, if you want something good, you should be willing to pay for it. That's how the world works. As for increasing wages, I am not a fan of this government, but they are definitely going to increase workers' salaries. Lastly, if we want this country to work, we must embrace the tradition of paying taxes. In most working countries, governments finance their budgets with taxes. You cannot be paying a tax of 1% - 5% (many of us don't even pay at all) and expect your government to work wonders. Irresponsible citizens beget an irresponsible government. |

Some people have been paid to spread ethnic discord, some have been paid to share racial discord, some have been paid to support the government in their policies, some just hate themselves. That is what I have noticed. Very hard to take posts seriously when the people who are under the same economic conditions are taking potshots at others in the same economic conditions and feeling above because they are different. Look above your head; it is the same sky. |

Murketeer: 1.Most people in the UK don't earn up to 100000 pounds per annum 2.Most UK citizens have to take loans to send their wards to school. And the loans have to be paid back. Because most of them cannot pay for their high fees out of pocket. |

a4cube: This take isn't what you think it is loool, it's not only because you finish on time people go to private schools. The competition alone in public schools itself wouldn't change a lot of people's minds and quality education that private school gives many public schools can't come close. Safe and sane environment many public schools can't offer, a young man was beaten because he wouldn't open his exam sheet to be copied. You'd never hear that in private schools at all. I get your point too but what I'm saying is it's not to the extent of what you think |

Kobojunkie:To start with, ASUU isn't a 'student union government' but a union of university teachers fighting not just for the welfare of her members but the overall development of the education sector in the country. Everyone around the world including the advanced nations likes US, UK, Canada have unions. If you feel ASUU wields ridiculous influence, that's because you don't know what the union fights for. You can hate ASUU as much as you want, but the truth which even the govt knows and admits is that without ASUU our education system would've been a mess. |

OGHENAOGIE: So, you don't think that the fact that we drill our boreholes, pave our roads, provide our power supply, etc equates to the taxes we pay? How much come be income ? Do Saudi and gulf citizens even pay taxes at all ? Some of you with naive comparisons. What they pay in taxes in Europe pales in comparison to the excellent multifaceted development there, sector by sector. You are too inexperienced for this discussion. Keep defending thieves |

Sojourner1976:LOL... I don't have any reason to hate on ASUU as I simply think it nothing but a glorified student union and nothing more at this point. The power it wields has already revealed itself as being against progress and we already have too many such organizations that should have their powers significantly curbed in that Nigeria. Imagine if ASUU'S Jurisdiction were curbed to say local government level, this would not only give people opportunity to continue to grow and compete. But sadly, that monster continues to hold the lives of people hostage even to this day. Something I think shouldn't be allowed to continue. |
