We can cut down cost of governance, and we should, but at the end, ....even if we took away the amount of money budgeted for the national assembly and aso rock, it won't cover subsidy costs for one month.
however, it will show the leaders care about the people and we are working together. Right now is all mirrors.

Maybe it would. (And they should, I say). But expecting it to pay for subsides for even one month is expecting a lot.

And then we get sectors like education, health even power self.

I no like your tinubu, but removing subsidy was the right thing to do, though he should have supported GEJ when GEJ wanted to remove the thing in 2012.

Still, better late than never. The fact is, if we kept subsidy, by this time next year, we would be spending all our income plus borrowed money propping the thing up. And when IMF says they can't do it anymore....wahala go start.

Oga dullard, there was no subsidy Payment to marketers right from time. FG was paying the money but it wasn't getting to marketers. Despite that, fuel was less than 250 Naira

There was before 2016. Or I should say, anyone, including marketers , could import before 2016. Then people could import and sell and get paid a subsidy for selling below import costs.

And that N250 was not cheap then. People wanted fuel to be at N65 or even N40.

Perhaps you missed the point where I said they should cut down on governance.

Again they should

But it won't pay for a month of subsidy, or even two weeks.

yes it wont but it would speed up the process of using the money for development. This is because the lawmakers will feel the pinch and put pressure on the govt to act.

Then they should lease it out and allow private companies to run it rather than allowing to turn to a Museum . Atleast that would save us some FX rather than having to take the crude abroad to refine at the expense of the FX . The higher the FX goes, the higher the price of fuel !

Even leasing them out won't work. Imagine the controversies over WHO will get the lease, the allegations of BRIBERY & CORRUPTION that will follow, the imputation of TRIBALISM that will inevitably be cast on the lease agreement. These are the consequences of DIVERSITY in a DEMOCRACY, this is an essential reality that Nigerians have to learn.

There's good research out there on the characteristics of prosperous, developed countries with high living standards like Norway, UK, Japan and Singapore. The following conditions are necessary preconditions - but not guarantees - for the evolution of such a nation - DEMOGRAPHIC COHESION based on genetics or religion, a good DEMOCRATIC tradition and practice, SMALL POPULATION and territory, and FREE MARKET capitalism. The more of these that are present in a country, the more likely it will have it will be strong, prosperous and have high living standards.

Unfortunately Nigeria has NONE of these qualities. Worse, Nigerians have become more and more SOCIALIST over time and that is antithetical to building a good and great nation.

Good Luck to Nigerians!

People should hold the selfish fuel Marketers and oil block owners who I believe should shoulder the fuel discount. These thieves can't be siphoning our resources to amass weath for themselves like that.

NNPC need to be totally overhauled too.

LOL..there was subsidy then...it was its withdrawal that led to increase in price.

How much subsidy was government paying per litre?

How much did they add to the pump price after subsidy removal?

Ask Google.

You ain't interested in any answer I have to give. You have already written me off as a government supporter, and you think that I am justifying evil, so ask Google. Google is neutral.

Also, oga, I would like it if we could have subsidy, and if we could have fuel at N100 OR less, at least for the poorest of the poor. But 50 years of subsidy has wrecked four refineries, and created a lot of opportunites for stealing and more stealing.

Because at the end of the day, I cannot come and tell you to sell something at a loss, and pay you subsidy that does not cover that loss.

You guys should stop wailing and accept the new reality. In 2011, you all protested at Ojota. In 2006 you all complained about a minister telling the truth for once. In the 1990's you called people IMF geng.

But no matter what you think of me, selling things at a loss is bad economics.

If you want your subsidy back, go and protest for it.

Bah humbug!
