Or start with B with the mind of leaving soon.

Good evening House. I need your advice please. My partner is a Structural Civil Engineer with 9 years experience in Nigeria. He has tried to apply for series of jobs on all the job websites. Has had a couple of interviews which moved to the second stage, but was not shortlisted.

He is on a student dependent visa and has about 9months validity on his visa. He has about 3 months experience as a contract engineer here in the UK and includes his design portfolio along side his applications.

LinkedIn recruiters contact him to discover his availability but it doesn't yield any positive outcome. Has been actively searching for 3 months now.

Please is there something he is doing wrong? Any tips would be really helpful
You mentioned that he's had some interviews but didn't get the jobs......could it be he needs to sharpen his interview skills?

Some of us believe we're great at interviews but that may not be the case. I had a personal experience with someone who thought he was doing well in the mock interview and refused my offer for a second mock interview (both free o).

If he can't get someone to do a mock interview with, let him record himself and watch the video.
You can find mock questions for him online.

Data related,

Lots of applications with rounds of interviews, and lots of rejections as well which was almost depressing.

I always write a cover letter alongside my application, even if not required.

I started with an entry role, then after settling, I proceeded with roles with more responsibilities.

There are some data related roles, say you are a data analyst or you know how to analyze data, then you can search for roles like, data quality, data processor, data management, data officer, data analyst,
Etc

So, while searching, I would use keyword such as data so any role related to data will pop up, likewise analyst, roles like financial analyst, information analyst etc will pop up,

@Owoado is actually right.

For him to be able to an interview, that shows a sign of interest from the company because lots of other candidates have been screened out.

First of all, I would suggest he ask an experienced fellow or a friend to watch him do a mock interview as advised by Owoado.

2. Can he defend all what he listed on his cv, if asked to

3. Understanding each of the job roles perfectly.

4. Personally, I do use AI to understand the job roles sometimes or ask it to tell me the core skills needed to succeed in such roles by pasting the roles (this is just to have another perspective of what the role entails, I got to learn from 3 different ai, that their are always different ways views are being perceived).

5. Personally, sometimes when interviews has been completed, when I’m giving the opportunity to ask questions, I use that opportunity to say some few things they did not ask during the interview and I know it’s really important for the job or I felt will impress them, (like saying how you always assist your supervisor to archive their commercial aims and objectives by being a high performing employee) then backed it with a scenario, before asking my question.

6. Giving examples and scenarios is always good, (every one can claim that they are a good team player or good communicator, but give a scenario or example to back it up)

7. Try as much as possible to seek for feedback if unsuccessful after interview, (it does give lots of insight or encouragement, 3 of my unsuccessful interviews gave me feedback that kept me going, by not relenting, one told me that if their choosen candidate had not applied I would she been successful).

8. He can watch YouTube interview videos to improve (try @Richard Pass my interview )

Note: This is just an opinion.

Please what’s the maximum speed allowance I can go on motorway 🛣️ ? I was on 77MPH yesterday and just about 100 metres away was this man standing by the bridge wearing black, sat in a black van 🚐 and pointing what looks like a Speed Gun towards my direction…. 😭😭😭

Should I be waiting for a letter 😭😭😭

Usually 10% + 2.
So if that section of the road is 70, you should be good until 79.

I just got to find out that if the speed limit on smart motor ways change from 70 to say 50, the speed camera adjusts to 50 speed limit as well.

I hope so ooo…

Yes you are right about the second one, I was on a motor way a certain day with 70MPH limit, but their was a Queue Ahead shown on the smart motorway thingy with reduced speed limit to 50MPH. There was this car speeding behind me, sped about 70 past that yellow camera, the next thing I realized was double flash 📸… I immediately clicked that it was for that speeding car on just about 70MPH.

Motorway 70mph for dual carriage
Country side 50mph

If the national speed limit applies sign is on a road, then stick to 60mph for single lane and 70mph for dual carriage

Passing a practical driving test is step 1.

Go through your theory classes again

Hello people... in a dilemma here.

I have a scheduled appointment at VFS Manchester this Friday for Denmark. Real destination is Netherlands.

Initial travel date was 23rd but a late adjustment has moved event to 8th September.

I haven't booked a return flight yet. None of them offers a refund.

1) Do I fill a new application form for the new date or do I leave it with the old date?

2) Can I book a ticket to Netherlands instead or must I travel to Denmark as stated on my application form that Denmark is the main destination.

3) Is there a way to book flight without paying yet- say ticket reservation for 1 or 2 days?

4) What's the minimum on a shengen visa? I applied for 90 days multiple entries.

5) Any other advice

@IvanCardozo

For flights, I used Ryan air. Got some tickets for as low as £9 (just make sure your luggage no pass 1 bag). Please how did you get it this cheap?

Do they refund payments?

I'm not against learning and in-country driving experience. I've only flagged sweeping generalisations and assumptions whilst challenging those with bad driving culture from back home.

DVLA allows new immigrants to drive for their first year of residence as a show of confidence. However, the onus is on immigrants to ensure they understand the road dynamics before jumping on the road.

In the long run, every mallam go carry im kettle.

Peerielass:

It’s not just about driving and pushing the car forward. It’s about getting used to UK roads and road conditions, roundabouts, driving on the other side of the road, Highway Code and road signs, slip roads, country roads, blind spots etc. There’s a reason why DVLA strongly recommends a minimum of 20 lessons over a period of time. This is to expose you to different road and weather conditions. Tell me how someone that passed their practical test by watching videos and no practical experience of actually driving in the snow will cope in the winter?

Make una dey take am easy for this ukay!

Advice from my AI (lol 🤭)

“ This is quite a personal decision and it depends on many factors, some of which include your long-term career goals, personal circumstances, risk tolerance, cultural openness, and interest in international development versus consulting.

Here are a few things to consider:

1. **Career Goals and Interests**: Are you more interested in consulting or in international development? The nature of work will be significantly different in these roles. The UNDP role may offer more opportunities to have a direct impact on communities and countries, while the consulting role may provide broader exposure to various industries and business problems.

2. **Compensation**: The UNDP role appears to offer a higher salary, but also consider the cost of living in the respective locations, as well as the currency you'll be paid in and its stability.

3. **Location and Lifestyle**: Living in Mali would likely be a very different experience than living in the UK. Consider whether you're open to such a dramatic change in lifestyle, the security situation, language barriers, and the distance from family and friends.

4. **Work Security and Progression**: UNDP roles often come with job security, good benefits, and a structured career progression, whereas the consulting role may be more competitive and fluid. However, consulting roles can often offer faster career progression if you perform well.

5. **Visa Sponsorship**: The UK consulting role is sponsored, which could be a significant advantage if you are seeking to live and work in the UK longer term.

6. **Cultural and Personal Growth**: Living and working in a different cultural context like Mali could provide a rich personal growth experience. It could also be more challenging and demanding.

At the end of the day, this is a deeply personal decision and what is right depends on your individual circumstances, aspirations, and values. I would recommend seeking advice from people who know you well and possibly speaking to professionals who have worked in both types of roles to get a better sense of what might be the best fit for you.”

Mr/Ms Agbo, that your license should be revoked if you are coming to nairaland to ask for the speed limit allowance on a motorway.

Allowance ko Allawee ni

You better go and book a “pass plus” training course so that you can improve your driving skills and become a more competent driver.

And talking about mate, you need to be more specific so that I can know the angle you are coming from before I can give a response.
