Anambra State Governor, Prof. Chukwuma Charles Soludo, took decisive action on Saturday, July 29, 2023, as he angrily terminated the contract of TEC Engineering Nig Ltd for their negligence, underperformance, and lack of capacity in delivering the construction of the 2.17km Niger Street road, Fegge, along with a 1.1 km flood control channel in Onitsha South Local Government Area of the State.

During an unannounced visit to the site, the Governor was dismayed by the lack of progress and numerous complaints from the people about the contractor's inefficiency.

He said, “I have gone to many sites, and it is only on this site that the people, in fact, everybody is complaining that you are useless, you are doing nothing and you have not been doing the job; and it is only today that you know the governor is going to come, that is when you have come to do something.”

The Governor promptly terminated the contract, instructing TEC Engineering Nig Ltd to refund whatever is necessary and immediately leave the site. He also emphasized that a new contractor would be deployed to complete the project, ensuring that the road and flood control channel are constructed to the highest standard and in a timely manner.

His word: “The contract is over. Go and determined whatever it is you need to refund back to us, and do that immediately. We are deploying another contractor to this site. I am sorry, you can pack your things and leave; we are deploying a new contractor here.”

The masses were thrown into joy as a result of the Governor's action, and they hailed him for decisively terminating the contract with the slow contractor. The people expressed their appreciation for the Governor's commitment to ensuring the timely completion of the road project, which is vital for their community's development and well-being. With a new contractor set to be deployed, the hopes for a swift and successful completion of the road and flood control channel project are now reignited.

My question is didn't he verify the capacity, competency and track record of the company before awarding the contract to them?

Imagine 2 kilometer of road that shouldn't take more than a week to complete with adequate manpower is about to take years. That road is too critical to mess around with, many buyers from outside the state who stops at bridge head follow that road to Biafra market and main market while others follow down-flyover ochanja-iweka road and MCC New cemetery road.

This is what we want to see. This is what we call being proactive and this only happens when you don shit for house and know you need to clean up your mess fast.

If they can't deliver you let them go. And let them go fast. Quality and speed at which a project are being done determines how developed a country/state/province would be in the near future.

My stance still remains that if Soludo doesn't perform better than Peter Obi I and my entire family won't vote for him. If he does he has our vote. 💯 Closely following.

Sanwo-Olu should learn from this rather than just sitting down in govt house without monitoring any project at hand. Ikeja bridge has been uncompleted for more than four years now.

I think we have gone past this level of Who is better amongst the two. Peter obi have already said that he did his best as a trader that he is, soludo should as well do his as a professor that he is. EOD

I begin to wonder where and where are these locations in Anambra despite the fact that, this will be my 22 yrs of visiting the state without any local govt new to me.
This is a working Gov who knows what he wants for his people unlike your Pandora fraud, Obi who, when he was a Gov, all the little roads from Old Onitsha road at Nnewi, Usofia down to Nnobi roads and the roads at Bank road at Nnewi that he constructed, all were watched away even before Obi left the office as a Gov

withdrawing a contractor from a project shouldn’t cause this kind of drama. Didn’t you sign a contract with them, if they have not met the requirements of the contract, let them pay liquidated damages or release them on convenience.
