Asisat Oshoala played poorly today and she missed two big chances that should have allowed Nigeria top the group and avoid a strong nation in the R16.

Her first touches were poor.
Her positioning was non existent.
She could not threaten the average Irish backline.
She could not hold up play for her attack mates up front.
She disappeared for the entirety of the game and made Ireland look world class.


We now see why Barcelona uses her as a sub in the latter stages of a huge win or in meaningless league matches against minnows where she can statpad.

In contrast, Perpetua Nkwocha and Mercy Akide used to dictate games for Nigeria creating many opportunities and scoring too.

Asisat Oshoala has failed to lead and should be dropped with immediate effect.

Talisman of other countries like Popp, James, Ary Borges, Linda Caicedo are carrying their respective countries but Asisat Oshoala isn't doing the same.


It is time for someone else to take over that mantle where the girls can rally round her.

I nominate Toni Payne for this because she is heads and shoulders above the rest technically and level headed. The Super Falcons should be built around her with Oshoala relegated to the bench.

Oshoala is better as a super sub. Even in Barca, she's not a starter. A team with Oshoala as the leading striker will find it difficult to go far in any competition.
