The most reasonable solution is diplomatic. Military invasion will only serve to destabilise the sub-region further, no matter who ends up winning. Meanwhile, Russia and the U.S will carry their load and move on to their next theatre of rivalry, leaving the locals to sort themselves out.
Precisely what we've been saying.

Even the wise USA has refused to call it a coup because they have invested heavily in Niger's military and all in their fight against terrorism. US still has a base there.

I don't understand this sudden romance with Russia oh. As much as USA too are after their own interest and sometimes like wars, they still remain a better world powers than others.

Some people are even saying France are not paying fair price for Niger Uranium, more like cheating them.

No force or military intervention abeg, it will be a very unwise thing to do

Our conversation yesterday shows that governance is not easy, and it is very easy to type and condemn from the comfort of our phone.

How do you dialogue with a man that wants to grab power by force? You beg him ba?

Everybody dey shout SANCTION yesterday. I don ask for the sanctions wey go force Coupist to release the power back, nobody talk.

ECOWAS has a responsibility to its members. Someone cannot just wake up and violate a process of a country.

I am not saying we shouldn't dialogue. But if he refuses, force him out. I am not hungry for blood or war. Something has to be done.

When they conduct their elections in 2025, they should immediately request to leave ECOWAS.

Hypocritical west.

https://www.nytimes.com/2023/07/25/us/politics/biden-democracy-autocracy.html

In the case of Israel, where Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu on Monday pushed through Parliament new curbs on an independent judiciary, Mr. Biden has chosen to speak out. The vote in Jerusalem, he declared, was “unfortunate,” the fourth time in a week he chastised Mr. Netanyahu for his drive to enhance his own power.

But the president’s battle for democracy can be situational when it comes to America’s allies. Prime Minister Narendra Modi of India, who has presided over a wave of Hindu nationalist violence and repression of dissent, was feted at the White House with a state dinner and little public criticism. Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman of Saudi Arabia was rewarded with a visit and a presidential fist bump despite his murderous reign.

Don't be surprised to discover that the instability in West Africa is instigated by US and co so that they can sell weapons and also mine resources for little.

The trend is too obvious. They support a crook into power, then the army/people revolts to due suffering and corruption. Then they ask regional powers to intervene 'to save democracy'. Then at the end the coupist resigns from military and contests for president. Wins and another round of corruption and suffering begins.

Look at Sudan and South Sudan, look at Eritrea, etc. Same cycle.

You think it will end there?

I guarantee next thing you will see putin giving weapons to the 'Biafran freedom fighters'

It is Russians (Ibime can correct me) who were selling arms to mend if I recall

Iran, Russia, Saudi Arabia and China have formed a power bloc. China's goal is resources. Russias goal is power/influence. We have seen Sudan fully collapse because of Wagner arming the janjawid.

This does not look good for Africa at all. The next theater in resource wars of the future.

And we have lithium. Boko haram/ banditry in zamfara is also about gold. And Chinese are also involved.

The worst part of this is the typical shortsighted African thinking where those in power / influence will sell us all out for trinkets.

lol. U are expecting subsidy after subsidy removal.

See ehn, irrespective of whatever name we choose to call it, Nigerians can't actually do without some form of subsidy in one way or the other. The truth is by our peculiar nature of trying to game the system, some selected few will always try to enrich themselves through whatever means is available. Even the sedlings being shared in 774 LGA's by the FG, people will still find a way to make money at the expense of others. Some people can get seedlings in LGA's like Agege, Ikorodu and Alimosho only to go sell it to farmers in obafemi Owode in Ogun State. They still gamed the system.

My position has always been let FG go after oil subsidy thieves, clamp down on them and put in measures to frustrate them. Have the theft reduced drastically and let the people enjoy the subsidy like we have always done. The government just throwing the baby and the bathe away has not done anybody good thus far.

Anybody doing normal work in naija and has since seen significant increase in his disposable income in the last 2 months should come out and lay mantle on me o.
The problem of subsidy is the problem of corruption.

One thing I know is that if the head no chop, no body go get mind chop.

If you are the HOD and the company sends provisions for general use. You hand over the provisions to a staff to coordinate the sharing without asking for any favours or refusing to accept any favours. That staff will share the provisions accordingly. If they don't it's easy to punish the thief.

Interestingly in all TInubu's addresses to the nation, he has never said anything about fighting corruption.

Niger is a case of where majority of the people support and celebrate the coupists. The best solution is diplomacy.

We cannot lose soldiers fighting in Niger and about Niger when there's gross insecurity everywhere in the country.

We also do not want to be engulfed in any regional war between several countries.

Let there be discussions and let the coupists agree to return to democracy at a specified time.

Niger has never been a stable country. Forget about Russia and Putin. This was their first democratic transition. Which was almost toppled the previous year. You don't need to read deeper meaning into all of this than what it is but once you invade then all bets are off

If Putin is clearly behind them as you're claiming then it's already too late. Russia will not chook mouth in everything if they don't have to. At least not in the open.

The option of transitioning back to Democracy should be allowed to Niger like it has been allowed to other countries. Invasion or anything military should not even be considered, the snowball effect nobody is or will be ready for. Go and ask Yemen.

A coup in dead Niger is only the start it can get a lot worse if Tinubu and his hubris gets involved.

War is an industry and economy in itself. This is what I always tell people. Anything you can do to avoid war avoid it because when it starts the expenses and lives that will keep running you simply cannot budget for it.

That's why I find it very alarming that people with no skin in the game are eager and keep being adamant on bringing up war and invasion as an option.

Since this coup has happened now. Who has died? Even the person wey dem overthrow did they kill him? A single shot has not been fired but because of democracy by force you are pushing for Nigerians and Nigeriens to get slaughtered for nothing while two superpowers will use us to catch their never ending cruise

People have just chosen to not learn I'm convinced

In all this, will BAT ask permission of the local people of Niger before invading their land with soldiers under the cover of ECOWAS?

Have the people of Niger sent their leaders to Nigeria to ask for help from BAT like you guys requested of the South East of Nigeria?

The same people that are pushing for an attack on a sovereign country are the same ones that said BAT must tread with caution in an issue relating to terrorists on Nigerian soil.

Nigeria has too much on its plate to now add an attack on a foreign country again...we're too broke to finance another war (in whatever shape or form). It's one thing to speculate about a coup being unpopular among the people of Niger, it's another thing for the people of Niger to see soldiers from other countries invade their land in the name of ECOWAS.
