Super Falcons coach Randy Waldrum, has lauded his side’s performance in the group stage of the Women’s World Cup despite scepticism from several quarters and a bonus row just before the competition. Despite these, Nigeria made a bright start to the tournament with a well-deserved draw against now-ousted Canada (2020 Olympic Champions) courtesy of the heroics from shot-stopper Nnadozie. They replicated this with a statement victory against co-hosts Australia in Brisbane on Thursday. With a round of 16 qualification guaranteed Waldrum praised his side’s team spirit and perseverance even though not many believed them. “I just told them, two years ago when we started this journey, so many things went well and so many things didn’t go well. They never gave up. They continued to believe.“I don’t anybody think anybody out here believed that we can get out of this group and go through it without losing a match in this group,” he said in an interview with NFF TV “I am so proud of them and the efforts they’ve put in; so happy for them they’ve put in their experiences and they move on to the next round.” 11 Likes 2 Shares |

We must continue to play as a team. I know a lot of people have criticised the super falcons performance so far but i do feel the style suits knockout games. The results is the most important. 31 Likes 2 Shares

Just one goal against Ireland would have paired us against Denmark, the easier team. We just hope to scale through against the English side. 92 Likes 9 Shares |

Rich4god: In the world cup there's no easy opponents. Somehow some of us prefer England to Denmark because the girls would want to prove a point. We've faced lesser sides and became complacent in the past. 100 Likes 11 Shares |

Hmmm... This will be a very tough one. This is the male equivalent of Argentina vs Nigeria. England is one of the top picks to lift this title... Lauren James and her team-mates are in dangerous form right now. Falcons will need to seriously up their game. 10 Likes 1 Share |

Rich4god: Super falcons made the biggest mistake of their lives against Ireland. They would have won the game to avoid England. Very stupid of them to play defensively against Ireland. Now, England will trash us. We're out already 11 Likes 1 Share |

Lol.. . Football Analyst never tipped Nigeria to even have a chance of qualifying from a group that has a current Olympic Gold medalist in female soccer Canada, along side highly ranked teams far above Nigeria, Australia and Ireland. Canada is ranked 7 Australia is ranked 10 Republic of Ireland 22 While Nigeria is ranked 40 Always have a mindset of a winner. I sincerely wish them the best. At least they have proved those who said Nigeria can't qualify from that group wrong. And it's a dream come true for our players who will continue to dream big while working towards making their dream come true against all odds. Nigeria, entered this competition infact after coming forth in the African Cup of Nation. I sincerely wish my fellow country girls the very best. Let's go out there and prove them wrong again. Rich4god: Football is not mathematics. If not Nigeria shouldn't have qualified from their group at all. Like you rightly said, I hope the scale through. 18 Likes 1 Share |
