garykoeman: I would refrain from mentioning names so your post and this thread don't get deleted, but the sentiments expressed in your post are quite clear to the discerning mind. It is, in fact, quite interesting that he just happened to be observing a suspiciously-timed vacation at the time of the pogrom that saw nobles of other tribes and regions summarily and cowardly executed. 2 Likes |

Belafonte: I don't know how other Igbo senior Officers and Politicians escaped the cull but I know one of the coup plotters was said to have leaked the coup plot to Zik. I won't repeat the name of the person but it is out there for those interested. It was not a good look at all, after the dust had settled, that majority of the coup plotters were from the same tribe that was left practically unscathed by the deaths that cut across even minority tribes. The irony was Ojukwu himself was one of those that scrambled to restore Order and prevented the coup plotters from getting hold of Army ammunitions in Kano or whatever Northern city he was based. He effectively kept the country together, fast forward some months post reprisal killings and he "had to" lead the secession attempt. What a mess caused by one solitary person that wasn't detribalised enough to keep his mouth shut. |

raumdeuter: Is this a serious question? Clearly Zik or someone else told those guys to dissappear which they did. It didn't take long for the coup to be quelled, after which the people you mentioned could have safely surfaced because the coup plotters were already on the run or in custody. |

Nwamazi8: Ifeajuna was the Master planner of the coup. They were revolutionists. They meant good for the nation. Their mission was to release Obafemi Awolowo from the Calabar prison and then install him as the leader of the country after the coup. However, things changed when Aguiyi Ironsi was invited to the Senate to head the nation. Aguiyi Ironsi was the head of the army and had no hand in the head. The Majors that led the coup did not intend to install Aguiyi, but he benefitted from the coup. Meanwhile, the President (Azikiwe) left the country when the coup was about to take place, the coup would have been total revolution if Azikiwe was also killed but he was hinted and left the country. It's why most people think the coup exempted the Igbo leader. The July 29 coup was carried out without any Igbo soldiers amidst them and it's obvious that it's a total retaliation. Theophilus Yakubu Danjuma was like a CSO to Aguiyi Ironsi, his closest man. But wanted him dead. Be careful of you of whom you call your friend. Even, Kaduna Nzeogwu was very close to Sir Ahmadu Bello. |
