Please look at this evidence from their Croydon’s website in the picture attached. “A non British spouse of a full time student whose visa restricts work or claiming benefits”. How do we explain that @justwise

They have a good case then. They should just reach out to the Council in clear terms. HOWEVER, in the meantime, they should be paying their Council Tax. This happened to me and when the Council finally granted exemption, we were refunded for all paid Council Tax.

Hello Elders, I plan driving to London from the North East for the passport renewal of my wife and 3 kids.

We intend going a day before the appointment and then lodge at an hotel or airbnb. To avoid all the ulez, red zones, blue zones issues around central London(I drive a 2013 Citroën c4 hatchback), I'm thinking we should look for where to lodge in the outskirts of London. We can then get a bus or train early morning on the day of the appointment to the high commission. We also want the kids to visit one or two fun places in London before we return to our North. 😀

Elders, that have done this in the past, what's my best bet and which areas of London can we get an affordable accommodation for one night. Thanks as always.

I feel for the buyers though.
What do you think of the other COS holders in the seller's employ both those that bought and those that didn't buy, should they be worried?

Have you tried the option of using night bus(coach) and arriving London say 8am. Use the public transport to visit fun places and book return ticket for bus. Just thinking
If driving, u can consider visiting Thorpe park. Just check their site to see if such environment is for u

Thanks Boss, that was what I did when I renewed mine earlier in the year. I just want the kids to be a bit comfortable for the journey hence the reason I chose to drive.

They are not meant to pay shishi. A full-time student and non British partner dependent. This is clear on every council's website. When they disturbed me in my own council that year I quoted their site in my mail and we were exempted. In this UK study to show yourself approved on every matter or else pounds go just dey show you shege

There are not giving any solid reason oo, they just keep hammering that they are only entitled to 25% discount. I personally wouldn’t want them to pay and let’s see how it plays out, I have been sharing screenshots with them so they have the final say on the best way to go about it.
Zahra29:

Lol, a broke council is an angry one.

Has the council given an explanation for why the dependent is not exempt?

Your friends could sit tight, since they're in the right, and see how far the council takes it. Worst case they might receive a court summons and have solid grounds to win against the council. Chances are the council will cave once their legal team gets involved.

Or, depending on their risk appetite, they could pay and then claim it back from the council.
Re: Living In The Uk-life Of An Immigrant (part 3) by AgentXxx(m): 9:08pm On Aug 01, 2023
No extra money to pay when it’s not that they were sleeping when they put it up in their site. I will keep the house updated.

I have just returned from a trip to London from the NE. You have made a good decision to lodge on the outskirts and use public transport to get into London. The 20mph speed limit in Central London almost made me loose my sanity. If it was designed to lessen the traffic in Central London, it certainly isn't working as the traffic is terrible even at 20mph. As for accommodation, try to book a decent aparthotel or Airbnb. The Central London hotel the company booked me in for a night was an absolute shit-hole.

Not correct. I believe it's only the first 3 months, as long as they do not leave the country in this time. The parents are required to apply for a visa for the child within the 3 months. Below excerpt from NHS.uk:

Children born in the UK to those here lawfully for more than 6 months
If you give birth to a child in the UK, your child will be entitled to free NHS hospital treatment in England on the same basis as someone who's ordinarily resident up to 3 months of age, but only if they remain in the UK during that period.

You'll also need to meet one of these criteria:

you have a valid visa of more than 6 months and paid the surcharge for that visa
you have a valid visa of more than 6 months, but were exempt from paying the surcharge
you have a valid visa of more than 6 months, which you applied for prior to 6 April 2015

You should apply for a visa for your child during the 3-month period after your child's birth.

If required, you may have to pay the surcharge for your child. Failure to do so means you may be charged for NHS services provided for your child after the 3-month period.

Thank you for this response...l don't have time for too much arguments for what l know and have seen my patients born here in the uk without valid visa for their children being sent heavy bills after surgical procedures in my department.

Many people will get NHS international services bills soon if the child needs NHS services without valid visa for the child......

Solumtoya:

Services in the NHS is for only Citizens and Residents. A baby born here to immigrant parents has access for free for 3 months after which you either pay out of pocket, or get a visa fornthe baby.

The exceptions are some Emergency services that are for every person in the UK... Also, for minor cases, vaccinations, etc, most GPs won't bother charging. But such parents should pray the child doesn't need a surgery or treatment like hernia, the BILL would be heavy.

I know parents owing £15,000 NHS bills for simple hernia surgery their children born here in the UK without valid visas.. the bills are quite shocking to them...lol

Even the emergency services, it will be done for the children and the parents will receive normal International services NHS Bills later via the post...

What's are your exact reasons?
Too much traffic, no road signs, no parking space or what?

I mean if this advice is anything to go buy, the reason should not be because someone on Nairaland said so.

Interesting.

Just curious where the vignette will be stamped.

Do you have a link to this info on gov.uk? Couldn't place my hands on any. Thanks

giselle237:
thanks for the info.
Also to state, you dont need a passport to apply for the dependent visa/brp if they were born here. The birth certificate is sufficient.

Vignette? Who will stamp your passport with Vignette when you’re applying inside the UK? Vignettes is just an entry clearance to enter UK and you don’t need it if you’re already in the UK. Once you visa application is successful UKVI will just send you your BRP.

If you are inside the UK as I stated, what vignette? The child gets BRP straight up.
