If Nigeria military couldn’t defeat breakaway Biafra army with no military formation or weapons until after it 3rd year what make Tinubu think the Nigeria army will defeat Niger a country of more than 60years in 4 years time? 8 Likes |

fineboynl: The only way that the Nigerian Army can defeat Niger's Army is if the Niger Army are disorganised. Niger is a big country in terms of landmass, the Niger Army can withdraw and counter-atrack at will. This will be desert warfare where the Niger Army can see Nigeria Army coming from miles away 5 Likes |

fineboynl: And to think that the Nigerian military of that era was far more competent and disciplined than our military of today who are just a bunch of cowboys with a penchant for flexing muscles hunting low hanging fruits. I'm not convinced that our military can defeat any organised military of any country - not even Niger Republic. The level of indiscipline and incompetence is too much. 8 Likes |

They couldn't defeat them , they starved them to submission through blockade, sabotage of farms. In the battle field was nothing special Nigeria military could do besides killing unarmed civilians, starving women and children. All the military feats came from Biafra. 6 Likes |

Dey play. The first officers and leaders of the Biafran Army, were from the Nigerian Army, trained by the Nigerian Army. If anything. It is a testament to the effectiveness of that training that the war lasted that long. 6 Likes 1 Share |

Brek: The Biafra I know would have reclaimed those territories, when i realized that Russia , ukraine , Britain, east Germany , sudan, syria, niger, Cameroon Egypt, Chadian mercenaries, all backed Nigeria , I come to terms that to even hold the Nigeria military at bay for 30 months is what even Ukraine in all its might cannot do. If igbos are not prepared to write their history some of us will write it and call the bluff. No army in the history of the world except for the army of king David and the army of Alexander the great vs the Persians could do what the Biafra military did. You can take it anywhere, if this was done by an European army , the world will not hear any other thing. 4 Likes 1 Share |

fineboynl: It took less than 3 weeks to drive Biafran troops out of the Midwest It took less than 6 months to liberate the annexed Niger Delta states of Bayelsa, Rivers, Akwa Ibom and Cross River from Biafra occupation. The rest of the war was fought on attrition to slowly but painfully Demilitarize and demoralise Biafra . 3 million dead children Over a million other casualties . A sensible Ojukwu would have negotiated an end to the war and had his core Ibo Republic but he continued the senseless war using human shields to slow the military advance . 1 Like |

Hedonisco: Nigerian military as at the time of the coup was no more than 10,000 men and officers. In Midwest territory, Ejoor had very few guns and ammo and only three machine guns. No artillery. No air capabilities. Majority of the officers and men now under Midwestern command were Ibos or Bendel Ibos who returned back to their region. The armoury was directly under the control of Bendel Ibos. These Bendel Ibos identified with Nzeagwu Kaduna and Biafran struggle and refused Ejoor's, an Urhobo man, authority and command but rather took orders from Ojukwu in Enugu to arrest or kill Ejoor. After getting wind of the mutiny , Ejoor will escape alongside another non Ibo Bendelite senior officer, Ogbemudia. Biafran troops poured in after Ejoor was chased out and from there the non Ibo Bendelites were terrorised by the Biafran troops. It took civilian militias set up by Ogbemudia who was trained in counterinsurgency and guerrilla warfare to recruit civilians from among the non Ibo Bendelites to attack Biafran troops. This ressistance force were armed with donated double barrel shotguns from the civilian populace. Their attacks on Biafran troops was so remarkable that 300 Warri youth stormed a Biafran camp and killed all the soldiers. In Benin, a group of Ijaw , Bini and Itsekiri youths drowned 50 Biafran soldeirs in the Isiluku river. At this time the Izon ressistance was wrecking havoc in Rivers -Bayelsa axis. The situation in occupied Midwest was so dangerous for Biafran troops that they relegated themselves back to Asaba . It's important I give you this very important lost history so you can understand that ,the Nigerian army at the turn of the war was no force to reckon with in the first place as Biafra had more officers than Nigeria being that Ibos dominated the officers cadre. The civil war was fought mainly by civilian conscripts and volunteers. The Niger Delta Volunteer force you know today got its origins fighting Biafran troops that were heavily armed and a trained military. Back then you had the advantage and this is what made Ojukwu assume he could overrun Nigeria. But today the scenario is totally different as there is a very professional military force in Nigeria with little or no Ibo presence. So pls next time you want to mouth off, know that the Nigerian military of 1967 -1970 was a mainly a volunteer force of civilians that were tired of your shit. 1 Like |

Brek: So how does your timeline differ from mine ? And FYI, Biafra was far more superior in terms of number of trained officers and men as you Ibos dominated the military back then. Ironsi had also diverted lots of weaponry and arms to his eastern region. Biafra had the numerical strength in trained officers and men and also had more weapons and arms than Nigeria at the time. This is what propelled Ojukwu to think he could overrun Midwest (which had next to no ammo and Ibo friendly Bendel Ibo officers) and putsch towards Lagos. The Lagos invasion failed because Nigerian federal forces ambushed the invading Biafran troops by using old British bush maps and not engaging Biafran troops directly on the highway. You see, you had the military advantage and you abused it in doing a coup and later attempting to sweep Midwest and Lagos into your rogue Biafra. Little did you know that Ijaw, Itsekiri, Urhobo and Binis are born warriors. 1 Like |

Brek: Stalemate? There was tension back in Lagos on why Gowon insisted on continuing the war after liberating Midwest and SS states of present day Rivers, Bayelsa, Akwa Ibom and Cross River. The northern Muslim officers in Gowon's war cabinet wanted the war to end but Gowon insisted on bringing the Ibo territories back into Nigeria. The reasons for Gowon wanting the war to continue are hinged on two reasons : 1. Gowon being a northern minority and a Christian had earlier opposed Murtala's Operation Araba and wanted to preserve Nigeria to check the northern Muslim ambitions on his people. Domkat Bali made this position clear in his book on why they insisted on continuing the war to bring back Ibo territories into Nigeria. 2. Ibo elite had lost interest in Biafra after the liberation of the annexed SS regions and had come to see Ojukwu as an unhinged tyrant. It's no secret that the likes of Zik opposed Biafra only after SS Territories were liberated. Ojukwu will later comment years after the war that Biafra is not feasible because it had so many Sabos. As you know, not a week went by without a whisky drunk Ojukwu was not ordering executions on his own troop commanded for either cowardice or sabotage. So better understand that at no time did you ever hold Nigeria on a stalemate. The Nigerian military simply switched from all out attack to siege tactics after the SS was liberated. So get your facts right and stop listening to that your failure of a grand uncle who keeps lying about your phantom gallantry . 2 Likes |

AntiMarxist:Stop trying to distort history You literally have no back up into your claims and now said "biafran soldiers had better trained weapons" literally no evidence or source of your claim! In what way we're the biafran soldiers better equipped? In what freaking way? Which "military advantage" did we have? In what way? Because the biafran soldiers had a few tanks and the Nigerian soldiers had far too much. Had a larger airforce and military men. I don't understand why you guys like to disort history |
