Emergency. The single yellow line is a restricted lane, that's is, only some class of road users can drive there, eg, ambulance, fire fighter, police, brt(for states like Lagos), if you are not part of the lane users and you have to stop for anything (breakdown, relax, etc), you need to leave the highway, however, you can't drive on that lane with yellow markings, that's why that space is created with a dotted line so you can drive through.

That is not what the line means, the color of the line does not suggest class of vehicle, individual or group of individuals that can us the lane. That is a standard 4 lane with attached service lane to possibly take care of passengers from villages along that express. The dash yellow line means you can cross to the service lane and pick passengers or attend to your faulty vehicle etc while the unbroken yellow line means that you should not cross to the service lane except with extreme care where it becomes necessary. Also if you are on the service lane where the yellow line is unbroken, you are not expected to cross into the main lanes till you get to where the yellow line is broken then you can switch to the main lane. So the yellow line shows the end of the main lane, if you watch carefully, you will see the yellow line at the end of the second lane, that one will remain unbroken till the end of that road because no driver is expected to jump across that side so the line is there to mark the end of the lane at that side and to also show that you are not expected to clime to the other side. The white line shows the division of the main lanes into two. The same rule that guide drivers as regards broken and unbroken yellow line as stated above also apply to the white line.

Yellow line on the road means a restriction, either the lane is not meant for everyone or you will be on a wrong way/one way if it's a double line.
A yellow line that goes requires driving towards same direction as anyone driving on that lane is for emergency, not service lane.
If the line is white, as that of Lagos/Ibadan exp way, you can drive on that lane with it serving as a service lane.
Study your highway code. If you are driving in Nigeria, Lagos especially, master the highway code, don't ever make the mistake of driving on a lane marked with the yellow markings.
That place is not a bus stop, it's a lay-by.
White lines are meant to be on the right shoulder of the road while yellow line will be on the left if the road is a dual way, however, if there is a lane created on that right for a special purpose, the lane will be indicated with yellow line.
NB: a single yellow line markings on a lane means a restricted use, usually emergency responders, don't use it anywhere if you don't want to get a ticket
