Tech Job Or U.K Fully Funded Scholarship by Iboyx: 8:42am On Aug 05, 2023
Hi guys,
So I'll keep this as short as possible hoping to get your advice.

So I landed a software engineer role in one of the most popular fintechs in Africa, a remote role and it pays about 200k for a start.

I also have a fully funded scholarship to the UK(biological sciences) with stipends of about 900£ monthly but you must come back to Ng if at the end of the programme you do not already have a job.

I know that all things being equal in the software job in a couple of years say 3 years I should be able to triple that amount, I know guys that have done similar.

The risk of going to the UK is being stranded at the end of the programme. Worst part is the msc is not in the I.T industry. I know guys that have picked up second msc degrees cause of no job and they don't want to come back

I'm very passionate about the IT industry, I literally thought my self

What do you guys advice.ooking forward to your input. Thank you

Would have advised you to go for the Biological sciences programme, but what's the point in travelling out for Masters and be back home to square one?

Take the software engineer role, develop capacity and you will be in a better position to get better international jobs soonest.

I will advise you to take the UK option brother. Once there, develop yourself further by building capacity. U can do things in bioinformatics. While in UK, you can do side jobs to gather some cash. u can easily save 200k from your side jobs in UK after expenses. In naija, that's what you will use for expenses. What's the guarantee that that company's offer will remain over the course of time? No be govt job wey get guarantee ohh.

Bioinformatics is one of the areas where UK lack enough manpower, so i had advise you follow this advise..
On the other hand, if u are determined and have a good portfolio you can land a software engineering job in the UK.

Lastly, make Canada PR ur backup plan incase you dont get a job in the UK as expected

Una go just de paint situation wey difficult pass when Tinubu wan remove em urinaty bag by himself.

Advice: Go UK go de do the remote job while also doing Masters nah. Before ur masters finish, find care job wey go sponsor u and de do the remote job go by the side while u earn £12/hr cleaning sh1t on night shift.

Win-Win!!!

You are self taught to this level,

Why decide to stop now?

If accomodation is covered, £900 monthly is not stipend in UK.

Go for the degree while you Keep sharpening and developing yourself/skill better.

You may not need a job anymore after getting the degree.

I don't even know what the fuss should be about getting a job to a person indept in IT field.

Why is it even a difficult decision to make, in the first place?

The N200k monthly salary for the IT job, is not even up to £200!

Stay in Nigeria to perfect your tech skills if you can defer the scholarship till next year, then that would favor you. Except you love care jobs or support jobs in the Uk, then fine.

UK is a very harsh place for starters, they don’t even hire new grads any longer except maybe you do a JP Morgan internship while you are still in school like some unilag boys do. An unbelievable crowd of people have graduated from a Uk msc and stranded, jobless doing dirty jobs.

I want to believe the company is either Flutter ave or Paystack, stay there and perfect your skills. That would have more weight than any masters.

This is a no brainer. Pick the UK admission without hesitation. Except you earn above #1m monthly in Nigeria, japa is better.

Access to monthly funding plus daily hustle income will pay you much better. Having constant electricity, high-speed internet and access to great online courses will also give you an opportunity to grow your IT skills.

By the end of 2 years, you'd have more money in your account, better skills, and access to a job market that will pay you much more.

Move to UK work as a student+£900.
A pound is about a #1000naira.

Look out for I.T certifications while in the UK &attend, move to other European countries e.g Sweden, Switzerland or Germany &land yourself I.T or FinTech jobs.
