Why do some people still think that it was General Ironsi who abolished Regionalism and introduced unitary rule? Why are people still pushing this false narrative to this day?

The funny thing is that almost all of those who talk about decree 34 are those who never read it. They just repeat whatever they were told.

In this day and age many people have access to the internet, they are too lazy to verify information with a couple of clicks.

I started a thread where I said Nigeria should return to Regionalism, and some people came to say it was Ironsi who removed Regionalism.

For the benefit of those who want to know the truth, it was not Ironsi who abolished Regionalism and introduced unity rule, Gowon did that.

The decree 34 they keep telling you about was a civil service matter, nothing more

The 4 Regions that were on ground when Ironsi took over in January 1966, were still existing when he was killed 6 months later, and all 4 Regions had resource control throughout Ironsi's tenure in office. Anyone who knows anything about government will tell you that unitary rule does not exist where there is resource control because resource control is what makes an area or Regjon to be semi-autonomous.

Gowon abolished the 4 Regions Nigeria had and replaced them with 12 states, using Decree 14 of 1967

Gowon introduced unitary rule by abolishing resource control, with Decree 15 of 1967

Use Google to verify rather than pushing false narrative you were told

Before the arrival of Johnson Thomas umunakwe aguyi ironsi, the regions were powerful, it was after he became the head of state he weakened the 4 regions and we start practicing a unitary system.

Decree 34 destroyed federalism in Nigeria and is the foundation of the unitary system we are operating today.

There's no way you can rewrite the history. The question you should ask yourself is why did Aguiyi Ironsi promulgate decree 34 that abolish regional government?

Abi is an IPOB book of history different from other history books we are reading ni. Why is it so difficult for you to admit the wrong parts of your leader, why?

"Of all the decrees enacted in Nigeria, none is more controversial than Decree No 34 of 1966. It was promulgated on May 24, 1966 by then Head of State, Major General Johnson Thomas Umunnakwe Aguiyi-Ironsi (1924-1966) . It was called Unification Decree while some critics at that time labelled it the De-unification Decree.

"It was the decree that started the death of regionalism – an issue which is still generating controversy till now. "

Who will stop Aguyi ironsi the military head of state from doing whatever he want? He suspended some part of the Nigerian constitution. There was no one to challenge him.

Tafawa balewa, akintola, Ahmadu bello etc were dead. Awolowo was in jail, some senior military officers have being killed etc

You cannot rewrite history. Moreover, this did not happen 500 years ago, a lot of people who witnessed it are still alive.
