Niger Republic coup leader, General Abdourahmane Tchiani has agreed to dialogue with the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) after his meeting with Nigerian Islamic scholars led by the national leader of Jama’atu Izalatil Bid’ah Wa Iqamatus Sunnah (JIBWIS), Sheikh Abdullahi Bala Lau in Niger Republic.

According to Niger Republic’s Prime Minister, Ali Mahamane Lamine Zeine, General Tchiani gave the green light for talks with ECOWAS and was optimistic the talks with ECOWAS would take place in the next few days.

“We have agreed and the leader of our country has given the green light for dialogue. They will now go back and inform the Nigerian President what they have heard from us. we hope in the coming days, they (ECOWAS) will come here to meet us to discuss how the sanctions imposed against us will be lifted,’’ he said.

More details...

Nigeria’s Intervention Team, which included notable Islamic scholars from the country, met with the coup leaders in Niger over the weekend, and all parties decided to strengthen the option of dialogue in resolving the country’s political problem.

The Islamic Ulammas led by Sheik Bala Lau met with General Abdourahmane Tchiani for several hours in Niger’s capital Niamey during which they deliberated on all the issues including the demand by ECOWAS leaders that former President Bazoum be reinstated.

Bala Lau, who is the National Chairman of Jamatul Izalatu Bida Waikamatu Sunnah, said the clerics were in Niger on behalf of President Bola Tinubu who accepted their request to intervene.

Sheik Lau said the team had earlier told President Tinubu who is also the Chairman of Authority of ECOWAS Heads of State and Government that their position is that the political impasse in Niger is resolved through dialogue.

He, therefore, told General Tchiani that the visit to Niger was to engage in constructive dialogue to encourage him and other military leaders behind the coup to toe the path of peace instead of war to resolve the crisis. Responding, General Tchiani who accorded the team warm reception welcomed their intervention. He said their doors were open to explore diplomacy and peace in resolving the matter.

General Tchiani, however, said it was painful to the coup leaders that the ECOWAS leaders did not hear their side of the matter before issuing ultimatum to them to quit office.

He claimed the coup was well intended, stating that they struck to starve off an imminent threat that would have affected not only Niger Republic but also Nigeria.

He also apologised for not according the team sent by President Tinubu led by former Head of State, General Abdulsalami Abubakar (rtd) the required attention because they were angry about the ECOWAS ultimatum.

While tracing the historical ties between the two nations, he said Niger Republic and Nigeria were not only neighbours but brothers and sisters who should resolve issues amicably.

Speaking with journalists in Niamey after the meeting, another member of the intervention team and Chief Missioner of Ansarudeen Society of Nigeria, Sheik Ahmad Abdulrahman, said contrary to reports in some sections of the media, the team was well received by General Tchiani and both parties had fruitful discussions.

“We will now go back home and report to President Tinubu what we have discussed and press it on him that war is not an option in resolving the matter.

“We believe that war is an ill wind that will not blow any good and that peaceful resolution should prevail.”

The team comprised scholars from various Islamic sects in the country. Among them were Sheik Kabiru Gombe-Secretary, Jamatul izalatul bida waikamatul sunnah, Sheik Yakubu Musa Hassan Katsina-Director Daawah, JIBWIS, Sheik Ibrahim Dahiru Bauchi- Rep Sheik Ibrahim Bauchi and Dr Khalid Aliya- Secretary General, Jammatul Nasril Islam. Others included Sheik Karibullah Nasiru Kabara- Leader Khadriya Group Nigeria, Sheik Ahmad Abdurahman, Professor Salisu Sheri- Deputy Secretary-General Supreme Council for Islamic Affairs, Sheik Nasiru Abdul Muhayuid- Director Admin, JIBWIS Jos, Professor Mansur Sokoto, and Alhaji Mele Kyari.

Are they scared? I thought they were battle ready.
If Nigeria had chicken out, na real Bleep up. Make ordinary Niger wan use us shine.

International politics is a game theory.

A leader is faced with several option and each decision is like a butterfly effect.

Faced with two choices

1. Act
2. Do nothing

If you act, what is the long term consequence of option 1? We restore democracy and send the message loud and clear that no room for coup in west Africa any more. You do coup, you won’t get away with it.

2. Do nothing: for the mean time, there’s peace and temporary stability. What of the long term effect? Then it means anybody in west Africa can do coup and get away with it.
And what’s the longer time effect? Political instability here and there in west African countries. And any region there’s political instability, they will always experience economic instability, security challenges such as terrorism.

But some people because of their empty brain and selfish interest, because their candidate did not win election, they wanted the worst to happen to Nigeria not thinking of the long term effect it will cause to them. You throw stones not knowing it would end up hitting yours. Ase ni se ara e

The initial threats and needless ultimatum complicated what could have been resolved earlier and more easily. We were talking at each other, instead of talking with each other.

Thankfully, wisdom and reason have prevailed and peaceful routes to resolution are now the only cards on the table. The wicked dreams of embittered ipob terrorists and other selfish & insensitive war mongers have been prematurely terminated.

Kudos to President Bola Tinubu.
Kudos to the Northern Political & Religious Leaders.

May this government continue to favour me and my family and yours too. Tinubu is a blessing to humanity.

ECOWAS is able to achieve this because the man in charge is a PRAGMATIC leader.

The irony now is, this is bad news to the same set of people who have been shouting that Tinubu wants to go to war at all cost.

They won't be happy about this good news.

Why not let a sovereign Niger determine the course of of its own people the same way we all let their few currupt elites plunged them into poverty & misery without interference? It might be more productive to focus on addressing the significant issue of corruption that has plagued your own nation/Africa for decades. Who assigned the role of democracy's overseer to you, especially when challenges of self-sufficiency exist?

The readiness of Blackman to collaborate with white colonialists to the detriment of their fellow Black individuals remains puzzling.
Similar to the slavery era, when ruling classes manipulated the vulnerable to capture and sell their own kind, the current scenario involves resistance from a brother nation seeking freedom from exploitation by corrupt elites.
This conflict arises as the majority suffers in poverty. If democracy fails to help them, perhaps it's not the solution.

In Nigeria, I've personally witnessed people compelled to vote for a candidate in exchange for a meager 2k due to their dire circumstances. In impoverished countries, democracy can appear as a scheme of the corrupt elites, utilizing hunger and poverty to control the masses. undecided

That team should also include Catholic Bishops or the cardinal. This is not the time to spring up a religion, it must be inclusive.
Secular African chiefs should also be part of that team. Hope this will happen when the Nigerian delegation returns to Niamey.
This been said, Niger's authorities should be careful because ECOWAS might be tricking them on purpose to strike them off guard.
The French might be digging a tunnel from their military base - as the Peruvian commando did in 1997 to free the hostages at the Japanese Embassy in Lima Peru-.

Reading
Tupac Umaru Rebel Assault on The Japanese Embassy in Lima, Peru.

In Lima, Peru, Peruvian president Alberto Fujimori orders a commando assault on the Japanese ambassador’s home, hoping to free 72 hostages held for more than four months by armed members of the Tupac Amaru leftist rebel movement.

On December 16, 1996, 14 Tupac Amaru terrorists, disguised as waiters and caterers, slipped into the home of Japanese Ambassador Morihisa Aoki, where a reception honoring the birthday of the Japanese emperor was being held. The armed terrorists took 490 people hostage. Police promptly surrounded the compound, and the rebels agreed to release 170 women and elderly guests but declared they would kill the remaining 220 if their demands were not met.

The Tupac Amaru Revolutionary Movement (MRTA) was founded in 1984 as a militant organization dedicated to communist revolution in Peru. A few days after the hostage crisis at the Japanese ambassador’s home began, the rebels released all but 72 hostages and demanded the release of 400 MRTA members imprisoned in Peru. Among the important officials held hostage in the Japanese ambassador’s home were the brother of President Fujimori, Foreign Minister Francisco Tudela; supreme court judges; members of the ruling party; and a number of foreign ambassadors from Japan and elsewhere. President Fujimori, who was known for taking a hard-line stance against leftist guerrillas in Peru, did not give in to the key points of the rebels’ demands and in April 1997 ordered an assault on the complex by a 140-man special forces team.

After secretly warning the hostages 10 minutes before the attack, the special forces team set off a blast in a tunnel underneath the building, which surprised the rebels and killed eight of the 14 immediately. The rest of the elite soldiers attacked from several other directions, overwhelming the remaining terrorists. All 14 rebels were killed in the assault, including the leader, Nestor Cerpa, who was shot multiple times. Only one hostage, Supreme Court Justice Carlos Giusti, was killed in the attack, and of the several soldiers wounded during the rescue operation, two later died from their injuries.

People think ruling a sensitive country like Nigeria is all about claiming saint and forming holiest than thou.
Someone that cannot have a distributed vote in Nigeria should never rule Nigeria because the real test of leadership in Nigeria is ability to influence and withstand intense pressure.

Obi that is not widely accepted in Nigeria but won 95% in his region and less than 5% in core northern states does not have that capacity

Just one decision and he could send the most powerful country in Africa to political instability.

Does he have what it takes to work with the north and make decisions and they respect him. People that will rather choose goat over him

From Pushing Propaganda that there was a coup plot against Tinubu
From claiming that Tinubu will Crush NIGER Republic
From Claiming that the North cant dictate to Tinubu on how to facilitate democracy In NIGER Republic
From Pushing propaganda claiming that Tinubu as ECOWAS chairman was a strategist
From cutting electricity to them

Now a certified Tinubu mizcreant is happy that dialogue is now touted as a solution, when they noticed that people are very much against Military action against a Country that decided to sanitize their system. Anybody working with people from that region as partners is like "leaving" fish with a rat. The betrayal is genetic and they are shamelessly proud of that, and claim its sophistication.

One thing for certain, obi cannot handle this situation. He doesn’t have the capacity to make decisions relating to international politics

Ask yourself what will obi do in this situation.

Obi cannot work with the north, if you can’t work with the north, you can’t rule one Nigeria.
Obi will be a good biafran president but never for Nigeria

Then, we all know nothing good comes out for you. You have been bitter, currently bitter and will always be bitter. Nothing will ever satisfy you, you must find a means to turn the story and express your pain and bitterness

The threat was a masterstroke, remember AU also issued a 14day ultimatum. The major saving grace of the coupists are the northern elites who intervened based on close affinities to both sides. The latest resolution by ECOWAS to deploy standing troops also sent down shivers, who could think that a military dictator could apologize. ECOWAS negotiated from a weaker position in Mali & Burkina faso which the current leadership of ECOWAS doesn't want a repeat.

Ever heard of Angola and guys called Jonas Savinbi?, and Eduardo Dos Santos?.
Just because of power tussle, go and see what the two men did to Angola.
For your information, half of the men in that country are crippled, due to endless guerilla war.
This is precisely how the cookie crumble, just imagine the outstead PM decided to slug it out with the military, and gathered his own fighters, in order to reclaim the power.
Do you think he won't get support from his brothers?, that PM is an Arab.
When the poo finally hits the fan, the already impoverished citizens suffer more calamities and Nigeria gets to accept more refugee.
Prevention is better than cure.
Shalom.
